Totally agree. I don't know why people get mad when we say that, because they really didn't get enough recognition. If you'll allow me, I add the excellent band Badfinger to the list, among others. Cheers from Brazil.
@@AndresManosalvas I don't think Supertramp was underrated. America and GFR maybe (both great by the way). Badfinger definitely. Thanks for replying and cheers.
Here's The Guess Who's homage to Wolfman Jack (and indirectly the Midnight Special) from their 2000 Running Back Through Canada Tour: th-cam.com/video/terpnecyjA8/w-d-xo.html
Agree 100% - Kurt Winter - Brilliant guitarist - very under rated. The live version of American Woman with Winter on guitar from their 1972 live at the Paramount lp is 100% better than this 74 version and truly rocks, check it out ❤
@LukasFin Greetings from Australia. Ps: The Guess Who toured Australia once in early 70s with pretty much the line-up that played on live at the Paramount. I was too young to see them at that time.
The Guess Who were a fantastic live band. Here's another example of American Woman from their 2000 Running Back Through Canada tour ... the outdoor concert in Winnipeg (their home town) was interrupted by a thunder & lightning storm ... and the band played on! th-cam.com/video/z8Sz_1jGbh8/w-d-xo.html (They kick into overdrive at the 6.00 mark.)
There is a major legal fight between the founders of The Guess Who (,Randy Bachmann and Burton Cummings) against one of their hired musicians that trademarked the name Guess Who and is claiming music rights as their own. Burton and Randy apparently have initiated legal action to get their music back similar to John Foggerty of CCR
It's amazing that Winnipeg gave us BTO, The Guess Who and Neil Young...Who would have thought that town up in the North woods would produce these musician's...
There are a whole bunch of 70s bands I've listened to since they were new, and never once saw a photograph - Kansas, Supertramp, The Guess Who. These guys are not what I guess I expected. But it's hard to deny that riff.
People may not realize it but having a song like this, and Marvin Gaye fit into this category, was very polarizing back then. If you were against the Vietnam War you were enemy number one for a lot of people. Much like the War on Terror with Bush a few decades later
It's not Randy, he was already hitting it big with BTO by this time with You Ain't Seen Nothin Yet. This is Kurt Winter, who's also about to be out of the Guess Who
Kurt Winter R.I.P - Brilliant guitarist - very under rated. The live version of American Woman with Winter on guitar from their 1972 live at the Paramount lp is 100% better than this 74 version and truly rocks, check it out ❤
@anamericanprayer1967 When "Saturday Night" was huge in 1977, John Travolta was pictured in a white suit on the album cover. It was an American staple of the times! 😄 Thank you for sharing! 💖
He’s criticizing the Vietnam War~Lady Liberty🗽aka USA. The band is Canadian & while touring in the USA w/green cards the US Government tried to draft them to fight in Vietnam war, they were pissed & rightfully so, hence the anger in his voice here.
The creation of American Woman started off by accident when Randy Bachman breaks a guitar string during a concert. The band takes a break while he restrings his guitar. As he's tuning the new string, he starts playing a chord structure B to D# to E. The crowd hears the riff and loves it so he keeps playing it. Burton Cummings is in the parking lot talking to a fan about buying some Gene Vincent records. He's also getting attention from some aggressive American girls. He realizes the band has started back up so he runs on stage and Randy Bachman yells at him to sing something. The first words that pop out of his mouth are...you guessed it. The entire fascinating story of American Woman can be heard here: th-cam.com/video/FT0f-ktzwCI/w-d-xo.html
The other day, I was thinking about how the internet has negatively effected our society but it has also given me access to videos such as this that would have otherwise , effectively been lost to history..
sounds pretty darn good even with no reverb or anything on the vocals. but man, they don't look like rockers, more like social studies teachers. but great clip.
Hence, no RnR HOF. If Burton and Randy looked like Plant And Page, they woulda been in 20 years ago. “All” they had was a kick ass band with great songs and legendary vocals. Clearly not enough…
Back in the day when they would come on the radio , we would say Guess Who 's playing this and those around us would say who and I would say no Guess Who and it would go on . Vietnam Vet , Tom

The amount of sick filthy hits they pumped out in 1969-1970, is unreal. Why are they not in the rock n roll hall of fame ?
Because the R&RHoF is BS and doesn't matter.
It's pathetic that they're not
You shouldn't take the Hall of Fame seriously, lots of great acts not in it, many lousy ones are.
