Only 3 instruments... a drum, a bass guitar and a lead, and two golden voices... and you make a heavenly song..And without synths. And so young people, so we made music in the early days
It's available on DVD so you can have it even after the Apocalypse. As far as I'm concerned, all three were at the absolute top of their game in this one. Clapton once said that the Cream era was his favorite musically.
What I love about this version is Clapton's vocals. He abandons the falsetto of the studio version and it adds so much longing to the song. You feel the alienation the character feels in this song, the envy. Clapton's delivery adds so much to the theme. Oh, and it doesn't hurt that Jack Bruce's bass sounds so huge that it can conquer the world.
Even without the Wha wha pedal Clapton delivers the goods on this track. Jack Bruce on bass is pure magic and Ginger baker the heart beat of the song .
Im speechless. No effort from Eric, he's such an amazing guitarist. And Jack Bruce with the vocals is a awesome writer. And Ginger is amazing on drums. What a performance by cream. Just legendary. 🎸🎸🎙🎙🥁🥁❤❤
I do not take cream in my coffee. BUT I'll take this cream with anything. GREAT!!!!!! Amazing that a three piece could do this, amazing!!!!!................. It just keeps getting better and better..... I love it!!!!!!
I'm amazed they sounded so good after so many years. Not the cascading, avalanche of sound of their hey day, but what the heck they're all well into their sixties at this time. Never too old to Rock n Roll!
The supergroup was formed because they wanted to put togethor the best drummer, guitarist and bassist in the world, at the time. Even if they slowed down a bit, 50 years later, they’re still going to be really hot musicians😂
The secret to Clapton's solos is that he just isn't going through the numbers: You can tell by the look on his face that he's striking each note with his own, personal emotion.
Ginger was for several years a farmer in KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. After that he moved to a very small town Tulbagh in Western Cape also as a farmer. They farm there only with fruit. Was news here in a local newspaper . RIP. . . .you still rock .
Here I am almost 20 years later, still blown away by this!! Whilst the guitar player in me loves Clapton, I can’t help but be drawn to Jack’s melodic, thunderous bass ✌️😊💚
Jack was actually a conservatory-trained cellist and singer. He also played piano (a requirement at Conservatories.) He was a child prodigy who won many prizes while still adolescent. He then moved into Jazz. He never saw himself as a rock or blues player and basically said that was Eric's job - he was Ornette Coleman out front. Little known fact, Jack transcribed all of Bach's cello lines for bass. (That's a lot.) He was really a musical man for all seasons. Check out 'Things We Like' for a surprisingly different Jack.
@@PauliePinch13 Jack Bruce is not underrated at all! He is widely recognized as one of the very best bassists of all time, and his musical skills are legendary!
I was a little girl and my brother was given a record player from Santa…… I grew up in this era with natural musicians in my life… so grateful…. And now my daughters play this music at their parties etc. it’s real, it has meaning, they’re talented. I don’t even seek out the music now I just play mine…. This is one of them.
I feel their performances from the 2005 Reunion were excellent. They were definitely more refined and less jammy than their earlier days. While I would have enjoyed Eric on a Gibson, his playing on the whole DVD is stellar
I'm so glad (no pun) that The Cream reunited once last time in '05. My two favorite tunes by The Cream : "Dance The Night Away" and "Deserted Cities of The Heart." To my mind, those two tunes are the epitome of British '60s psychedelia (and they didn't get played to death on the radio). Eternal thanks to Eric, Jack and Ginger (three of the most talented musicians ever to grace a stage). Cheers and best to all.
I remember when this was released and it is so good to see all the young people in the crowd who weren't even thought of at the time rock'n out to one of the best bands ever!
I just love the way these guys bridge the sections of this song and what a full sound out of just three instruments: Most three-piece outfits would require a slew of session players to get such a big sound on stage.
WHAT I LOVE MOST IS THEY DIDN'T TRY TO OUT SHINE EACH OTHER ! THANK YOU GUYS FOR SO MANY MEMORIES FROM A BLACK MAN WHO IS 67YO ! I CAN'T REMEMBER HOW MUCH WEED AND ACID I DID LISTENING TO THESE GUY'S WHEN BACK THEN THAT WAS CONSIDERED ABNORMAL FOR A BLACK MAN !
Cream were so ahead of their time it unbelievable... Ask most people when this was released and they will be at least 10 years too late. Cream were and still are a rock icon.
1:25‐2:18 showcases the power and complimentary voices of Bruce and Clapton. The drumming before Clapton shredds it is perfection. Best Era of music never to be duplicated.
Jack Bruce is by far the best and most influential musician to come out of Scotland imo. The way he plays bass is just superb. With Cream it was just three musical superstars of there day. Anyone with an opinion of who is/was a better Scots musical tyrannosaurus than Jack please comment with your nomination, I would like to hear the peoples opinion. Zig
I love this group and they make awesome music and amazing lyrics 🎉🎉, they are most definitely underrated and that's sad cause, they're an outstanding group and deserve their recognition 🎉🎉
Beati coloro che hanno potuto vedere questo concerto, un grazie immenso a Bruce e Ginger due grandissimi per le emozioni che ci hanno dato, R.I.P. Grazie ancora ❤❤
Absolutely fabulous ! Great sound from three great musicians. And power and relaxation in the vocals which I’ve never been aware of before. Jack Bruce plays the most melodic bass I have ever heard. Ginger threads it all together faultlessly. And Eric shreds it a deep Blues. I love the way Jack nods Eric in after his first vocal and only wish, Ginger had also smiled at Jack at the finish. Perhaps I should already know why those two didn’t appear to get on, but I do not, and I have now resolved to find out the history. People are people and some just don’t get on. But the power of the music they created transcends and you would like to think… Could have healed any differences. Were they reconciled before their deaths. One can only hope so.
Rock n Roll will never die....The next generations after the bboomers will awaken to how good this era really was....Infact I'm sure many many are all ready digging these guys

Yes; it will never happen again!
Three blokes, just three brilliant blokes. Guitar, bass and drums - basic, simple, superb.
I’m 75 years old. Probably the best song I’ve ever heard. Second Stars and Stripes Forever. Third Proud Mary.
At the end, Ginger was smiling at Eric Clapton. It's awesome. I hope you have a great day.
Couldn't agree more with you on this song - amazing musicians.
a fabulous tune by all accounts
Many tired Starlings in the World. You observe correctly...
This is the foundation on which 60's rock was built!! Epic.
9/2023: This is so beautiful. 3 of The Greatest Musicians. Wonderful memories and wonderful music. Thank You
Jack Bruce made fretless bass + singing look effortless
RIP Mr. Bruce, and Mr. Baker. 😔
These three musicians outplay their 1968 selves by far. It's heartening.
We'll always remember you Jack! RIP
Three geniuses at work…. All other rock musicians just listen and weep…. They are never to be matched
Jack is really great. No politics just pure bass!
This band was bursting with talent, Jack Bruce, bass player greatness, Eric, what can you say? Ginger, perfect for their style of music, awesome.
Ginger was an excellent drummer, Rockin’ with the greatest in heaven

Claptons “yellow tiger” line hits perfect.
Perfect post. Captured it just right
Clapton and Jack Bruce switched on the last verse. Cream was probably the best in my book.
I’m not so sure Clapton abandoned the falsetto; it may have abandoned him. Still, amazing rendition. They were no fluke.
Great drummer buta sorry, sorry person. God bless him...,
That fretless bass sounds so good!
Started out a stand up base player, and it shows
Jack makes it purrrrr
phenomenal talent❤
....and his intonation is so good that it sounds like a fretted bass!
Amazing amount of sound from 3 peoples. Outstanding vocals and Ginger Baker's drumming is peerless.
And thinking they couldn't stand each other off stage even hatred between baker & Bruce

Clapton's voice gets stronger. It's great stuff.
Tremdous, great tune, great performance and the lyrics mean nothing, this is what music should be!!!!
First voices I heard on a phonograph as a 4 year old kid was Jack Bruce's, Clapton's and Baker's. Set a high standard.
❤Jack Bruce is amazing, fretless bass , singing, not even looking at the neck ❤ 🎶🎸🎶🎸🎶🎸🎶🎸
They called themselves Cream because that's what they believed there were. All of these years later, they once again proved it!!!
Jack Bruce is so good, hard to play bass and sing lead at same time.

Seems like that bass was gonna spontaneously ignite at times 🥰🥵
So you haven’t seen Geddy Lee?
