That section on the mid sole is the remaining HOVR wrap. UA wrapped earlier versions of HOVR foam in an “energy web” and carrier foam because initially HOVR overly responsive and the energy web gave more control of the shoes energy return. You can see a better example on the Machina 3 (Mach-key -na) ua has been reducing the energy web and any carrier foams on shoes over the last couple of years.

That’s helpful thank you. I was wondering why that was. Thats interesting that it’s less and less each version. I also picked up the Machina 3 and am enjoying that one. Thanks again

@@RunningDadAdventures From my understanding, as the wrap came off each year, it seemed to benefit the shoes feel and performance. Before, you had to really break in the shoes a lot before you could get into the benefits of the HOVR foam... which you called out... it's on the firm side with good energy return. You get stability but also a nice responsive ride.

@@brianwj5 right on. I am enjoying the HOVR. It broke in after a few runs and is coming alive. I do like the ground feel and energy vs some of my other max cushion options

UA Infinite Pro is also an amazing shoe but Infinite 5 is my favorite.

Nice review. I've placed an order for UK pair and hope the weight and firmness isn't a concern

Right on me too. It’s faster than I expected and snappy. It’s firm for me but not a deal breaker. It’s subjective. It’s definitely different than slot of the super stack shoes that are out there. Enjoy

How does Hovr cushion hold on Infinite 5? Is it firm still? What is your experience?
How do you compare your runs in Machina 3 and Infinite 5 in terms of longer distance and fatigue? I seek at the moment a shoe that can cover mileage. Probably Machina 3.
I am a 100 kg man so I really hope I could have a decent month of running in them.
It usually holds for 2 weeks and the 3rd or 4th is kinda kaput.
As a runner I prefer stiff popping bottoms. But Hovr in all models I wore, such as Sonic 2, Guardian 3 ..kinda holds 2 weeks and no more. When it loses firmness the middle part changes phase and is liquid. And my foot feels it. Sinking, no energy return and knees and hips hurts.
Of all the UA I liked the most Gemini 2020. Was firm , like a soldier's shoe, but in time, and I mean long long time
(for me at least), 3 month to be exact, it was an awesome ride. 5k or below 10k.
I will probably take Machina 3.. After Novablast 3. In Novablast 3- 2 weeks were strange. I couldn't roll over my fingers,...
The design is to "blame"..it likes to land on the middle, cushioned part I guess... 3rd week foot sunk in and I am starting to feel pain in joints
    and ankles and knees.
The firmness, believe or not- which shields my foot from any pain in tendons or back of calf, Achilles or anything. It was my decision to take a chance with a softer shoe. Asics has more firm shoes, yes. Brooks as well. I wore Puma Velocity Nitro 2 as well. 2 weeks really good and 3rd and 4th game over. But that has happened. Guilty yes, satisfied yes.
It is rare to find brands, such as Asics Glideride 2 - tank that lasted for 1500 km+ ..I took shoes afterwards to a gym to lift weights.
HOVR Infinite 5 as model , design I mean- is more linear horizontal and made to fit for longer runs because foot is not fatigued. Foot prefers no other than what every pediatrician suggests. Tabular, and not high heel or high front.
Glideride 2 is solid construction but to a leg Infinite 4, 5 are more pleasing. It is due to the rocker and that artificial cocoon for foot in Glideride 2. Infinite 5 when you stand in them you can feel fall down and it is as if the shoe is asking for it :-))
Machina 3 is similar. More like a ship and less as falling incline( Inf 5). Unlike Clone models, which are cushioned and although most agree they can last..I tested Guardian 3 and I know it won't.I think that chemical is ok, but net holding it ..simply wears off quickly . Idk , I am glad that UA as a brand exists.
For the reason of long lasting lift offs Machina 3 in front has Charged EVA. I wanna say that the front of all UA shoes is done less well ..Unlike the heel part. Heels are so good (still good on already worn, old shoes.)

Huge different between infinite (still stiff) and Machina (soft ish and more forgiving) I like the Machina despite its weight. I was going to suggest the GlideRide but looks like you’ve considered that shoe. Perhaps the new balance 800 series. I think that’s stiff. Or even look at mix up. I remember them being stiffer too. I think (for me) the Novablast 3 is still my favorite shoe. I love these discussions 👍👍.
Check the return policy and if it allows to send back with no hassles get both the Machina and infinite and try both then send back what you don’t like. Remember they’ll break in and feel different after a month of use. Take care

Oh and maybe On Running. I thought those were stiff too (tried years ago)

Please to say that it fits true to size in my experience, unlike some other UA trainers that I have (Mega Hovr Clone, Phantom 3, Velociti Flow 3) where I needed to go up by half size to get a comfortable fit.
