The Kingdom of the Romans and Moors (Collapse of Roman Empire)
Intro: Hey everyone, thanks for checking out my TH-cam Video! This is the second installment in my "Abandoned History" series where I cover historical events that get forgotten by pop culture and history classes.
Description: After the collapse of the Western Roman Empire in 476 there were numerous successor states. The Mauro-Roman Kingdom was one among them. It straddled the line between "Barbarian Kingdom" and Roman Rump State. It was the longest-lasting Western Roman rump state and the only one to expand beyond the borders of the Empire. Its people were Christian, whose heritage was a mixture of Romano-Berber and Berber.

Good video of an example of the various entities that tried to keep the legacy of Rome alive after the western Roman empire's fall, I really like how you put the kingdom in the context of greater successor states and entities that kept the roman legacy and how roman cultural influence where everywhere, even on outside of the border regions.

there was an eight romano moorish kingdom centered around volubilis the the west of the mauro roman kingdom, in modern day morocco. Inscriptions from the sixth century mentions a dynasty, Gens Julia, as ruling the city

What is the language they used???...was it a romance language???....was it a berber language???...did some of them retreat in the Byzantine empire after their defeat???

Thanks for the awesome questions Andrei,
1.) they spoke African-Romance (cities & nobility), Latin was still used for governmental purposes, the common folk most likely spoke Berber languages and Latin-Berber patois. It is likely that the Byzantine commanders had proficiency in Greek but there is little evidence to suggest that Greek was used in an official capacity. So in short, they spoke a combination of languages but the nobility/government spoke African-Romance.
2.) After their defeat much of Mauro-Roman lands were integrated directly into the Byzantine Empire. I do not believe many of them went to the Byzantine realm after their defeat, multiple Mauro-Roman rump states continued to exist after their defeat like Altava and Hodna.
I hope this was helpful and please feel free to ask any more questions you may have!
