- I show how I use the water column to find Crappie. There are still many things i do not understand about side-imaging sonar. Learning to use the water column so i can easily find fish made me a better angler.

Hi Squirrel than you so much for showing everone where we can go so wrong with side scan. I really appreciate the time and effort you have taken to show this presentation . Thank you for no loud music background like s lot of others do an no bullshit about their way is right. I have a Lowrance 12 inch Gen3 with a total scan tranducer which i love and is so easy to work with . I would love to know if live scope is worth it to find fish.After watching you using live scope to prove to all that the fish are the correct distance from the transducer I would love to know. When watching your videos i see you keep looking at the screen to see where your lure is and the fish bite that is amazing. I am a Aussie and just love watching your videos. Thank You It is very much Appreciated
Livescope/ Active target allows you to dial in your lure presentation for the correct depth and angle. I never use it to find fish. Before I purchased livescope, I would throw a marker bouy out to the side of where the fish are holding, I also used a point-1 antenna and my mapping to show how fish were located in relation to my boat orientation. The marker bouy and point-1 will both nail down the correct angle or location you need to throw. The active target will do that and let you dial in the correct depth at the same time while allowing you to see how the fish are responding to your lure. This was helpful. Am I correct in thinking that the downscan covers the cone thats in the middle of the sidescan? And that running a splitscreen on the graph covers everything?
Yes, I believe Down scan covers the middle section and overlays it on the sidescan screen just no bottom image. I look at my downscan and 2D for bottom fishing beneath the boat.
Very insightful video. I have a bass raider. Is it best to mount my transducer on the bow or stern of the boat?
I have my transducer mounted on the stern so I can view my 2D at speed with my boat on plane. If you mounted it on the bow on your trolling motor for example, you would need to make sure the transducer is level. I have run 2D and down on my trolling motor, but never a down scan. I believe the side imaging picture would be distorted every time you turned the motor. If you have a fixed mount on the front, I don’t think it would matter either way. Just make sure your transducer is level as the boat sits in the water not on the trailer. Hope this helps!🐿
@@FishinwithSquirrel Yes, very helpful and you are correct. I had my transducer mounted on my trolling motor and I couldn't get a quality image to save my life. I just bought a Scotty mount and was debating mounting it on the stern or bow.
Like your demo device. Where did you learn about that 45 degree angle in the transducer?
Called customer support and they told me 45° for sidescan and 55° for down imaging. Thanks for watching 🐿
Hoy about if something is dead center of the boat...where the triangle is cut away?
If it’s suspended off the bottom it will show up next to the transducer line. I will put out another video showing what happens when it hits the Lake bottom. Thanks for watching!🐿

As long as I have had this helix 7 ( 2 years) it has never picked up docks on side scan. Hey squirrel I live 10 minutes from browns Bridge ramp on Hartwell, any viewers going there better not leave w your property in your car

Rod, I have never used Hummingbird but I know people who do, and it picks up the image just like the images I took in the video. BTW. The images in the video are mine and I know they are Crappie because I caught them. I wish I could help but I would be as lost as a duck in the desert with a bird.

I don't want to see the underground, I just want to see the fish. In principle, side scren not too difficulty to do that
Do not display the bottom of the lake, all others are displayed
I wish you could do that!
