Mud Shot and Power-Up Punch are the combo that largely does it, but then the buffs from having Power-Up Punch hit four times makes it powered up fully with more ATK. General strategies that work for *every* Rocket battle: switch right at the start so you have that free 3 seconds to hit him while he does nothing , and be sure after every charge attack that you don't use your charge move right away (instead, wait for the nearly-3-seconds of stun time to be over THEN use it), and of course, use Spammy movesets....this means Charge Attacks that take hardly any energy to get

I didn't realise the opposing mon' came with different movesets and was wondering why i steamrolled giovanni for my first lugia and then got demolished until i got it on like my 6th attempt for my second one as the persian kept fucking me up. Makes sense now

Question? I see that on your phone you have technically two charge attacks. How do I get the second charge attack? Cause I can only power up one charge attack
All Poliwrath are Water & Fighting dual types. It is one of the greatest Pokémon to use for TGR if you are struggling, as long as you acknowledge type strengths and weaknesses

If it dies quick it's probably Scratch. I just kept trying at different times until I had a Persian that didn't drain my Pokémon before I could charge. But then I failed at the 2nd or 3rd attackers. In the end I got it on a Persian that had Scratch and drained my Machamp before it could charge, but that time my 2nd and 3rd attackers could kill the rest of his Persian and his Kingler and Lugia in time!
Every attack in the game has a unique physical appearance and audio to go with it. Also the patterns of damage you're taking will be a huge indicator in the example of Persian's Scratch vs. Feint Attack.... i.e., Scratch will be smaller damage per hit BUT FAST AF and drain your HP quickly if you don't have something to resist it.. Feint Attack is more of that one-and-done burst hit individually, instead of many fast little hits. Scratch shows actual slash marks over your Pokemon (basically on top of/in front of it) and makes an actual scratching type of sound, kinda like a cartoony cat scratch noise. Feint Attack makes just one little starburst shape on your Pokemon when it hits, and has a sort of Vortex-sounding audio with it. Nah, it's like a 96% IV, but that actually doesn't even matter in this particular case. In TGR fights, the IV's matter less and less than PvP or PvE stuff; I've had 1-stars perform just as good as 3 or 4-stars, because it's more about focusing on type strengths/resistances etc, spammy movesets, and stun time, among a few other things that can edge the battle in your favor.
Sadly, you can't fight him again without using a Super Rocket Radar...the Radar gets used up if you beat him and make it to the catch sequence. I'd contact Niantic support in the app and just explain to them what happened...people talk so much crap about the company but they've given people coins or radars or passes in so many circumstances.
Go through the battle "blind" (essentially) at first and you'll see as you try the fight the first time. Past that, you just observe the physical signs as well as listen to the sounds each attack makes...a good example is Persian's "Scratch" attack - physically you see a bunch of slash marks in front of (almost on top of) your Pokemon, while you also hear a scratching sound quickly over and over. Your health will also continuously lower rapidly in short hits, whereas if it was using Feint Attack your Pokemon's HP would lower in one burst at a time a bit slower

Don't think you'll get verification. The video Poliwrath against this particular group of Giovanni's 'Mons did nearly solo it, so I'd say go for it if you can get the same moves. Just gotta see if it works, if not, you have a 3k Poliwrath with 2 charge attacks 🤷🏻♂️
The way you verify that is by seeing this video do it at 1500-below... so if a 1500cp Poliwrath can do it, a 3000cp can do it. There's no difference other than being MORE powerful in that case. Now what you *need to know* is that, like the commentary says, it's against THIS specific moveset and using the specific moveset of the Poliwrath I show. Don't expect a Poliwrath to destroy a Persian with Scratch, as just one example, instead of Feint Attack

@@DrKendo i powered up my poliwrath after my first successful battle with giovanni it has the same moveset it did before and its only 500 cp difference from last time and Giovanni's Persian absolutely obliterated my poliwrath twice where as my first battle with my poliwrath against Giovanni he obliterated both his nidoking and his Persian. Why is this?

There are ironically so many people who don't know the basics or don't realize Great League-level Pokemon that can solo TGR... I mean hell, one comment after you posted this was accusing this of being a fake video! I spell it all out and explain it for people, right there on screen and in the commentary
I'm level 34 and I tried all f*cking week haha. I just got it this afternoon with only a couple hours left on the clock to be able to Charged TM the Frustration out of Lugia. It's difficult if you don't have a lot of good attacking Pokémon to choose from yet. Good attackers with good movesets and good IV's and enough candy to power up, or enough Fast/Charged TMs to change the moves. With a bit of help from my level 47 friend (and PokeGenie) I tried all kinds of different teams and went back at different times because Giovanni's lineup and its moves were different each time. I managed to evolve a Magnezone that finally helped me over the edge (Machamp-Magnezone-Darkrai against Persian-Kingler-Lugia). At least now at level 34 I finally understand a little bit of how this goes so I hope to be able to build up some good Pokémon teams for the future challanges.
The advice above can be misleading in some scenarios & work in others..it's based on the movesets Giovanni's Pokemon have, but also which ones your Pokemon have. You also obviously want to resist (double resist if you can) the Type that his Pokemon's Fast Attacks are while also dealing Super Effective damage...i.e., like how Poliwrath resists the Dark type of Feint Attack but doesn't resist the Normal type of Scratch... same basically with all of your Fighting types; Lucario will resist both but is a little bit squishy, so if your trainer level is 40 or above, the Lucario will still likely die to Scratch unless it's powered near Ultra or higher. Gengar can be super effective against Lugia because of Ghost, but it doesn't resist any of Lugia's Fast Attacks and even *takes* super effective from Extrasensory because Psychic is super-e against Poison. Leafeon is cool for most of the middle-spot Pokemon, though you'll want it powered above Great League in most cases if your trainer level is above 35. Fortunately Rhyperior takes double Super-Effective dmg from Grass and Water. Fast Bug type moves are fine to bust the shields of the Persian but if you're struggling to beat it, you really do need a Fighting type attack or higher-CP Pokemon generally. Can't make any blanket statement there though since fighting a Persian with Scratch is very different than fighting one with Feint Attack, as well as fighting a Persian of 5800cp compared to one that's over 7000+cp
I’m calling bulkshit! Bc I naturally used poli wrath and it’s can take a beating but nothing like yours. That which you’re showing is impossible! I’ve got same attacks. Poli wrath takes out Persian easily yes. Second barely. Third is no! Naturally I used a Rhyperior. Then Torterra. My group to finally beat Giovanni with Persian, kingler, lugia was Scrafty, Torterra and Rhyperior. Rhyperior to start get a couple slaps in then change Scrafty. Take both shields then dies Torterra gets enough quick charge for Frenzy plant Gio Persian down. 3-4 quick attack bullet aeee Torterra to get second Frenzy plant up to about half way kingler at this point is roughly 1/3 down on health. I charge to great, which was too much but still won. Anyway, kingler dead and just before Torterra gets charge move up it’s dead. Here rock Rhyperior kicked ass! With both my shields still going into Lugia I was barely able to defeat with maybe 1/10 of my Rhyperior health. So with a single -ish pokiwrath bc you do actually do switch Pokémon I need to see live! I may not be as well versed as you, but I knew to use poliwrath on my own instead of lucario. And poliwrath was a losing combo
Well DrKenzo is not even the only person on TH-cam who sweeped Giovanni's lineup with a Poliwrath, so you might just consider trying to use it slightly better and everything will go okay 🤷♂️ I do assume that you wouldn't have thrown these accusations without running Mud shot/Power up punch/Ice punch, that's more than obvious to me, but considering Rhyperior is significantly tankier than Nidoning and that Kingler isn't weak to Ice punch, that's where I think your Poliwrath started performing worse. You really want an Iron tail Nidoking to defeat it in a limited amount of charge moves and also regain your energy, because then the health won't even matter against Lugia with how low you are. Only the energy will do. If you fould another way to take it down that worked out, it's okay. But please avoid throwing accusations randomly
Yup doesn't work. Persian is way to overpowered. Regardless of counters or combat points matters, in this fight. I've tried every counter and tip form streamers and this one is not beatable for me. This really sucks cause I just want to finish the special research I don't care for shadow lugia, I never use lugia for anything anyways
You see it work on screen, so when you say "doesn't work" that's obviously false. I'm not here to be punched when people are frustrated that they can't win, but I actually explain *every last bit of what I'm doing* in each video. All I focus on is helping people per each scenario he can throw at you - this video is ONE scenario, out of like 6 or more. Like I always say, you have to handle the Giovanni fight differently based on what he's throwing at you; I think there's even a line in this commentary that states how this Poliwrath strategy should *only* be done against THIS specific lineup. @@phillipflute2368 Oh, I know there's always a turd or two out there :) But anyway, yeah, a Poliwrath is really a long-term investment for you, since when it even just has Mud Shot with either Power-Up Punch and/or Ice Punch, it can take on Team GO Rocket from practically any lineup; not always solo, but most of the time it does so much of the work for you. Although currently there's that bug where Team GO Rocket doesn't pause for "stun time" after charge attacks & switches. People will need to try again in the next build, since they've confirmed this bug on their "Known Issues" page and made a note that it's fixed when the new update hits.

I have 2 shadow Lugia 8/15/11 and 13/11/15. Should I purify the weaker one? Is purified pokemon same as just "normal" pokemon?
purified will have boosted cp around 2500 cp and 8/15/11 will become like n 11/15/15 cuz ivs increase on purifying too

There are ironically so many people who don't know the basics or don't realize Great League-level Pokemon that can solo TGR... I mean hell, one comment after you posted this was accusing this of being a fake video!

I'm level 34 and I tried all f*cking week haha. I just got it this afternoon with only a couple hours left on the clock to be able to Charged TM the Frustration out of Lugia. It's difficult if you don't have a lot of good attacking Pokémon to choose from yet. Good attackers with good movesets and good IV's and enough candy to power up, or enough Fast/Charged TMs to change the moves.
With a bit of help from my level 47 friend (and PokeGenie) I tried all kinds of different teams and went back at different times because Giovanni's lineup and its moves were different each time. I managed to evolve a Magnezone that finally helped me over the edge (Machamp-Magnezone-Darkrai against Persian-Kingler-Lugia).
At least now at level 34 I finally understand a little bit of how this goes so I hope to be able to build up some good Pokémon teams for the future challanges.
The advice above can be misleading in some scenarios & work in others..it's based on the movesets Giovanni's Pokemon have, but also which ones your Pokemon have. You also obviously want to resist (double resist if you can) the Type that his Pokemon's Fast Attacks are while also dealing Super Effective damage...i.e., like how Poliwrath resists the Dark type of Feint Attack but doesn't resist the Normal type of Scratch... same basically with all of your Fighting types; Lucario will resist both but is a little bit squishy, so if your trainer level is 40 or above, the Lucario will still likely die to Scratch unless it's powered near Ultra or higher.
Gengar can be super effective against Lugia because of Ghost, but it doesn't resist any of Lugia's Fast Attacks and even *takes* super effective from Extrasensory because Psychic is super-e against Poison. Leafeon is cool for most of the middle-spot Pokemon, though you'll want it powered above Great League in most cases if your trainer level is above 35. Fortunately Rhyperior takes double Super-Effective dmg from Grass and Water.
Fast Bug type moves are fine to bust the shields of the Persian but if you're struggling to beat it, you really do need a Fighting type attack or higher-CP Pokemon generally. Can't make any blanket statement there though since fighting a Persian with Scratch is very different than fighting one with Feint Attack, as well as fighting a Persian of 5800cp compared to one that's over 7000+cp
I’m calling bulkshit! Bc I naturally used poli wrath and it’s can take a beating but nothing like yours. That which you’re showing is impossible! I’ve got same attacks. Poli wrath takes out Persian easily yes. Second barely. Third is no! Naturally I used a Rhyperior. Then Torterra. My group to finally beat Giovanni with Persian, kingler, lugia was Scrafty, Torterra and Rhyperior. Rhyperior to start get a couple slaps in then change Scrafty. Take both shields then dies Torterra gets enough quick charge for Frenzy plant Gio Persian down. 3-4 quick attack bullet aeee Torterra to get second Frenzy plant up to about half way kingler at this point is roughly 1/3 down on health. I charge to great, which was too much but still won. Anyway, kingler dead and just before Torterra gets charge move up it’s dead. Here rock Rhyperior kicked ass! With both my shields still going into Lugia I was barely able to defeat with maybe 1/10 of my Rhyperior health. So with a single -ish pokiwrath bc you do actually do switch Pokémon I need to see live! I may not be as well versed as you, but I knew to use poliwrath on my own instead of lucario. And poliwrath was a losing combo

Well DrKenzo is not even the only person on TH-cam who sweeped Giovanni's lineup with a Poliwrath, so you might just consider trying to use it slightly better and everything will go okay 🤷♂️ I do assume that you wouldn't have thrown these accusations without running Mud shot/Power up punch/Ice punch, that's more than obvious to me, but considering Rhyperior is significantly tankier than Nidoning and that Kingler isn't weak to Ice punch, that's where I think your Poliwrath started performing worse. You really want an Iron tail Nidoking to defeat it in a limited amount of charge moves and also regain your energy, because then the health won't even matter against Lugia with how low you are. Only the energy will do. If you fould another way to take it down that worked out, it's okay. But please avoid throwing accusations randomly

Yup doesn't work. Persian is way to overpowered. Regardless of counters or combat points matters, in this fight. I've tried every counter and tip form streamers and this one is not beatable for me. This really sucks cause I just want to finish the special research I don't care for shadow lugia, I never use lugia for anything anyways
You see it work on screen, so when you say "doesn't work" that's obviously false. I'm not here to be punched when people are frustrated that they can't win, but I actually explain *every last bit of what I'm doing* in each video. All I focus on is helping people per each scenario he can throw at you - this video is ONE scenario, out of like 6 or more. Like I always say, you have to handle the Giovanni fight differently based on what he's throwing at you; I think there's even a line in this commentary that states how this Poliwrath strategy should *only* be done against THIS specific lineup.

@@phillipflute2368 Oh, I know there's always a turd or two out there :) But anyway, yeah, a Poliwrath is really a long-term investment for you, since when it even just has Mud Shot with either Power-Up Punch and/or Ice Punch, it can take on Team GO Rocket from practically any lineup; not always solo, but most of the time it does so much of the work for you.
Although currently there's that bug where Team GO Rocket doesn't pause for "stun time" after charge attacks & switches.
People will need to try again in the next build, since they've confirmed this bug on their "Known Issues" page and made a note that it's fixed when the new update hits.
@@DrKendo thank you my friend. I appreciate that. I have a few fighting Pokemon, but their Cha he attack take too long to happen and they're already dead. I'm getting enough Poliwag candy to evolve another one and then I'll try again to beat Giovanni. I have the rocket to find him, but have been gotten frustrated as I don't have the right Pokemon to face him. Hehe.

I'm sure you're also just saying that because there's a bug out right now where Team GO Rocket isn't pausing after Charge Attacks or switches. It's on Niantic's "Known Issues" page and getting fixed in the next build.
