    Just as an FYI, once you've set your circle size, you don't actually have to set it again unless you throw a ball too late. So long as you let go before the circle comes back after the attack animation, it will always be the same size no matter how many balls you throw or how many attacks the pokemon does.

    • @brettgilmore8260
      @brettgilmore8260 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Indeed, you don't need to reset the circle size if the pokemon breaks out the ball. Just toss another berry and wait for the attack.

    • @scelestion
      @scelestion 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I think Nick kept repeating it just for demonstration purposes but I also was waiting for him to say that you only need to do it once per encounter (if the timing of your throws is right).

      I've had people argue with me about that because they couldn't get it to work. Then I watched them throw, and they'd always throw too late and just tell me I'm wrong. lol it's so frustrating because they are so into Pokemon GO and are nearly level 50's.

    A tip for using the Quick Catch on a more difficult Pokémon, or a Pokémon that has appeared from a lure that you fear might disappear from the map if you leave the catch screen. Perform Nick's Quick-Catch as described, but don't Flee until you see the Pokéball shake a 3rd time. That 3rd shake is a guarantee that the Pokémon is caught, so you can flee as soon as you see it, and know that the Pokémon is caught. If the Pokémon breaks out of the ball, you can re-perform the Quick-Catch again, and wait on the shakes again just to be sure you catch it.
    additional note, Quick-Catch fleeing often leaves a 'Ghost' of the caught Pokémon on the map, which will disappear when tapped on. However, Pokémon from incense will react like they haven't been caught, and bring you back to the catch screen. If a berry was used before you tried to catch it, that berry will also appear to still appear to be in effect (despite how the berry's effect should wear off when the Pokémon breaks out of a ball). Those Pokémon are already Caught or have Fled, so don't waste time trying to catch them again. In the case of a Pokémon who does not have a berry effect applied. if attempting to use a berry results in an error, that Pokémon is also already gone, you can ignore it and move on. (This also applies to Photo-bomb Pokémon. And if you just want to remove them from the map, you'll have to just throw the ball and wait for the Ghost to break out and flee)

    Great to see these tips all in one place! I want to share a slight modification of the quick catch technique, for use when you want to be sure you caught the mon, and you might not be able to re-encounter it. Maybe you're a passenger in a car or something. Anyway, use the same technique, but just wait until the third shake before you run - you can still skip the screens where it displays the catch XP and the mon's info card. And if it breaks out, you're still in the encounter and you can have another go.
    The other thing you didn't mention is buddy assist - as I'm sure you know, but people reading these comments might not, a great or higher level buddy walking with you can bounce the ball back if the mon attacks while you're throwing. Saves your ball, and might save your catch as well. All the other information about catch modifiers and throwing technique still applies when using buddy assist.
    And another reason to berry your mon before you stack them - you don't have to worry about stocking up on pinaps or whatever before you catch your stacked mon. The berry will be right there and ready to go when you get to the catch screen.

    Thank you for showing us all the different catch bonuses. Thank you for showing us that if you release the ball further up the screen helps to throw the ball further and releasing the ball close to the bottom of the screen is a shorter throw. Not the speed of the throw. Watching you catch the stack makes me wonder how long it took you to amass the whole stack.

    • @nicolaplays1134

    • @JRNimmo
      @JRNimmo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tend to do the slower fast catch method for these Pokemon where in you trigger a fast catch but you wait until you see the start of the third rocking animation to flee so you know you've caught it and even though it will stay on the map you know there is no point in clicking on it to return to the encounter screen with it.

    On Android devices you can unlock developer options and add a "sensors off" tile to the shortcuts drop-down menu. This allows you to position the pokemon in AR mode and then disable the sensor which will lock the pokemon in place. This way you can AR quick catch without the pokemon moving around on the screen. It makes quick-catching much easier.

    • @silversonic1

    Great video! The only thing I'd add is the actual % of using the golden berry + ultra ball + curve ball + excellent throw, i know it's just an easy addition, but i think it'd be a cool fact to know

    • @mitzki1214
      @mitzki1214 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can’t really add any percentage since every pokemon has different catch rates
      But to give an idea on the example mewtu
      Golden razz + curve + excellent = 16%
      Golden razz + curve = 9%
      Curve = 4%
      Regular throw without anything = 2%
      Meaning with the best catch odd and throwing that 13 times in a row you have a 89% odd of one of the balls actually catching it

    • @maito1794
      @maito1794 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mitzki1214 i was thinking more of the total catch multipliers. for example, ultra ball has a 2.0 catch multiplier, golden raspberry is 2.5, so if you do a normal throw with an ultra ball and a golden berry, you have a 4.5 catch multiplier

    • @maito1794
      @maito1794 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      something like this:
      - ultra ball → 2.0
      - golden raspberry → 2.5
      - curveball → 1.7
      - max excellent throw → 2.0
      -platinum medal of the Pokémon's type → 1.4 (not sure if the Pokémon has dual typing, this multiplier works for both typings)
      if we add all this, we get a 9.6 catch multiplier
      edit: i'm not sure if this is how it works, so don't trust my math

    One of the best uses of the research stack imo is keeping big Pokémon for easy excellent throws when you get a “do x amount of excellent/great throws in a row” tasks. If you catch all the small Pokémon and run away from all the big Pokémon from research tasks you can have a stack of all onix/wailmer etc

    Do remember that it is not a research "stack" but a "queue" 🤓. Your newest addition goes to the back, and not to the front 🧑‍🏫

    These are really nice tricks, Nick. Love the video! I didn't even know about the AR+ quick catch 😂
    One extremely small thing. With the Quick/Fast Catch method, you can also just hold the Berry or Ball-tray. I just tap and hold the berry-tray, throw the ball, move the finger on the tray maybe a millimeter to the middle which will open it and then run.
    You can also then hit the equivalent of the "back"-button on your phone to exit the encounter instead of the Run-icon.
    It's still the same basic thing. But hey, those very few milliseconds adds up, lmao 😂😂

    for the circle lock, once u've done it and as long as u only throw while the pokemon is attacking it remains as u locked it

    Here was me thinking that clearing your stack would finally stop your research button from being orange.
    But you don't clear half your special research so it's still there 🙈

    When catching 'mons that jump around, alternate Nanab berries and other berries.
    The calming effect of a Nanab berry keeps working until the next berry goes into effect with the hit.
    A Nanab berry lasts two rounds.

    Very helpful video, also worth mentioning that premier balls have same catch rate as normal pokeballs. But very great video put together. Nick if you have a friend or family member, videoing a protégé starting the game in 2022 could be a great idea for a video. So many changes now from starting back then.
