If you want to really impress me, clean a gas stove top that has been neglected and it has burnt on grease in the tight corners around the burners. Your stove top looked brand new and the spots probably didn't even need pre sprayed.

Thank you for this good video! I started the cleaning process and quickly realized that my burners (GE stove) were fastened to the stove top by two sheet-metal screws. Also, the ignitor tip was fastened to the burner. I cleaned using a brass wire brush and got the job done.

I just moved to a new house earlier this year and inherited a gas stove/oven, which is the first time I've used gas. Electric always felt easier and safer for me, and the particular unit (not something I chose) was simple. I cleaned the top and the drip trays, and I was always careful cooking in the oven so there was never a mess to clean up inside. I tried with baking soda once, and I don't think I did it right. Now I have a gas stove/oven, and it definitely feels like it requires more steps to clean. And I haven't done it myself yet. I have a cleaning service come once a month and they do it. But it took me a lot of time to get used to the gas being used for heating the oven and the gas flame on the stove (just from an anixety perspective), and with more pieces to be mindful of in cleaning, it certainly doesn't help.

We moved into our new home 3 month ago. All gas appliances. Gas bill has averaged $30 per month. We SO love our gas stove! Stuff gets hot so much faster and more evenly. Cleaning is more involved than with our glass-top, so we do spray oil on the pans over the sink and remove the lid when frying stuff only while holding the pan over the sink. We've had to clean the stove once in three months.

  • @kimberlindy

We have the same exact slide in range. We did add the optional side rails to keep debris from going between the oven and countertop; thought I'd mention it in case you didn't know about that. When cleaning I add an extra step of popping those grates and the cast iron rings in the oven at like 200F for 20 min to make sure they are dry. I've been planning to season them like you do cast iron cookware. I did consider induction but purchased gas instead because the induction can make weird high pitched noises, and we don't know that 20 years from now they will figure out that standing in front of a big magnet for an hour a day cooking causes some kind of weird health problem. With the gas you just turn on the exhaust fan and I don't know that I believe all the natural gas hype that's been all over the news recently anyway since there seems to be an agenda. Additionally, cook Helen Rennie here on TH-cam has a great video on induction and she talks about additional issues such as issues matching pot size with burner size and lack of quality in current US induction products. Lastly, my now fired cleaning company scratched our range top by using SOS pads against the grain. I've been using BKF but I think the instructions say to use the liquid BKF; I'll have to try the Dawn powerwash to see which is less work. I'm considering trying something to remove the scratches; just afraid I'll find a way to screw that up to make it worse since I'm not handy!

It also has two more sets of burners on the left and right of the giant burners. They’re a little smaller but not tiny by any means. It heats up so fast! I don’t believe that the propane is that harmful on our environment. There are other massive things that are worst so I do not worry about that. Blessings!

I have a gas range (cook top and oven), our house is heated by gas as well (we live on a mountain and that's what most everyone has up here). But we also do have a large wood burning fireplace that we recently got a wood burning stove insert for as it will use less wood, and be more energy efficient than the fireplace, and in the end it will help us use less gas during the winter. We have no a/c so the summers are great in terms of energy efficiency in our home. It's always a tradeoff somehow and we just have to make the best choices we can. By the way I love my gas stove and oven. Thank you for these tips on how to clean it (mine is white enamel not stainless but I still use the same products you used here).

I've been cooking a long time and everyone who ever saw my cook tops - both glass and gas, always commented how clean they were. I'll offer my opinion and technique for both glass and gas. In addition to being a neat cook - you can' t help spatters - the key is cleaning each time you're done. Especially in the case of glass/ceramic cook tops...Clean them immediately and then after they cool, polish with a cream-based cook top cleaner. It essentially "waxes" the surface and allows for less sticking. Make the time, every time - it only takes about 5 or so minutes. Spread the cleaner - let it dry to a haze - then buff (like waxing a car). Mine always had a mirror shine with no stains, no rings and no scratches. Also...DON'T scrape your pans back and forth across the surface as you're cooking - this is a gas cooking technique but will kill a glass cook top. Lift the pan to agitate food as you're cooking.
Gas stoves...you don't need to do a deep cleaning as shown in this video every time, but after cooking remove the grates as soon as they cool and clean with a spray cleaner (one of the power sprays as in the video or even glass cleaner). Then buff with a soft cloth.
The key with keeping the stove tops and oven clean is to not let grease, grime, spills, sauce, etc. build up! Do some sort of cleaning every time. We just got a new gas stove and I was looking for other cleaning ideas. And this is coming from a guy (a guy who cooks and like things neat and clean but is also a union electrician - so I'm no sissy). My wife dabbles in the kitchen, but I'm the primary cook for the family.
Most people who cook - both professional and non-professional will usually prefer gas stoves. It allows better heat control and technique. You can debate about the environmental concerns over wanting an induction stove - but remember - it uses electricity, which still requires fossil fuels to create! Natural gas is one of the cleaner fuels, is efficient, plentiful and less expensive than electric.

I find that wiping down my gas stovetop after I cook, while it's still warm, it's just part of cleaning up the kitchen after cooking. Do the dishes, wipe down the counters and clean off the stove. I still take it apart and give it a good scrub once a month but it's much easier to do when it's well maintained. My grates are on hinges so I can just open them like a book, great for daily maintenance but not so great for deep cleaning as they don't fit in my sink.

This was great, especially sharing that you should let the cleaners sit for a while so they can do their job before you start scrubbing. I have had a 5-burner gas stove (or cooktop) in each of my homes over the past 20 years, and would never cook any other way! Gas cooks faster and more evenly (and this is why you'll always see professional chefs and restaurants using gas) and when you turn the burner off, it's off (unlike the electric stoves I had growing up and as a single person renting an apartment).

We got gas, but had to have it converted to run on propane. It runs very hot, and just doesn’t function right. I also find that I don’t keep up with cleaning it and oil burns on it with the high heat, so it’s very hard to clean. So next one will definitely be convection.

I'm not sure if it was intentional or just a slip of the tongue but the gas doesn't come out of those white tips that stick up. The gas comes out of the large holes coming up from the bottom in the centre of the burner caps. Those white tips are the igniters. That where the spark comes from the light the gas.

I have a gas cooktop, which I love, but my stove is black stainless and the finish on the stovetop scratches extremely easily from those cast iron grates.

I’ve always cooked on a gas hob. Our ovens and grill are all electric, though. I find the gas easier to control than an electric hob. xxxxx

I’ve had gas since being a homeowner. I’ve toyed with induction but the risk of scratching and the damage to the cooktop if we use our beloved cast iron is a consideration.

My stove in the RV is propane and hard to clean. In my house, I have an induction cooktop which I prefer. The induction is easy to use and easy to clean.

Induction It cooks low and slow but also hot and fast. Has not so good at low heat. I like making my own stock so cooking at low heat is a must. You can get works that work on induction and it will do for me

I don't own, so as a renter I have to use what I get when I move. I much prefer gas stoves however and thankfully 3 out of 4 places I've rented have/had gas stoves. My first apartment had an old electric with the round coils and I HATED that stove. When we do buy, I want to have a gas stove still.
