I adore this version. I wonder if they’ll ever release the bare guitar & vocal only tracks of Nick’s first two albums. That would be something.

I think about this all the time. I believe they were wrong to push Nick in that direction on the first two albums, especially with Bryter Layter though. He was at his best alone with just his guitar. I don't like all the bells and whistles they added, other than Cello Song which is very minimally done. I'm glad he did things his way for Pink Moon. And that there are so many home recordings with acoustic versions of his work. The first time I heard Hazey Jane alternates I GASPED. It's impossibly gorgeous. I played it back to back like 15 times. I couldn't believe it was done so differently for the album.
When I want to listen to Nick Drake, I now find myself going straight to the playlists put together here on TH-cam of bootleg/demo/alternate Nick Drake songs as they are far far far far faaaaaar superior to just about every single album versions. I do believe his estate has more recordings, hopefully they come soon. I'd also love to hear the studio albums all remastered to have only an acoustic guitar. Who knows, his estate may even include a video of Nick playing live somewhere. I find it hard to believe there isn't one at least a session filmed at home by Nick's family, where he's just sitting in the music room relaxed and playing. His father stayed up-to-date with new technology and had all sorts of modern electronics. When there are films of the family from when Nick and Gabrielle are very young kids in the 40s, how could their not exist films from later when they are adults? We'll see one.

@@astridvvv9662 I hope you’re right. With no footage of him other than a brief few seconds of his back to the camera at a fair he’s such a mysterious enigma to his fans. Of course that may be some of the appeal, apart from his obvious talent. Each recorded version of his songs and photos are treated as precious commodities, with so little else of him it’s necessary to create the man from the music. Still ...how amazing would it be just to see just a few minutes of him practicing at home? -To finally see the hand positioning for his unique finger picking on the guitar, or the expression with which he sang?

@@astridvvv9662 It's a matter of taste, I think the studio version is incredible, the piano solo in particular always gets me and it's actually really original to have this type of arrangement and style in a pop/folk song. But I certainly appreciate the guitar work in this demo version.

I wonder what made ND (or producer Joe Boyd) decide to put this song in a bossa nova ambience on 'bryter later' (not that has been a wrong decision, though).
