Marvin Gaye was the bomb. Sexual Healing came out in 1982. Whoever requested this jam, thank you! It takes me back. It broke my heart when Marvin passed, especially the way it happened. RIP Marvin Gaye. ❤️
A vocal phenom...& a musical prophet... Marvin Gaye was ALL DAT (& more). I'd suggest the entire "What's Going On" album. One listen & you'll become a fan for life! And... you're welcome.
First time listening to Marvin Gaye? Happy for you, cause he was one of the most important musician, singer, performer, artist in the world, still is as far as I am concerned!
Not only murdered by his own father for defending his mother against his father that was abusing her Marvin was killed on April 1 and Marvin birthday was on April 2
What's Going On would be a great Marvin Gaye song to react to. Outside of his romance based songs there's a lot of political songs about social issues in America that you might enjoy.
Recorded in my country (Belgium) - he took 2 years off to live in Ostend-Belgium to reset from his hectic life in the US, and even almost bought a house here, planning to stay permanently. But the plans didn't pan out. He went back to the US (unfortunately I must say, since he died 2 years later, shot by his dad). It became his best selling album.
Marvin had so much sex appeal. He had an Awesome voice! Timeless Classic! This came out in 1982, if I'm not mistaken. "Let's Get It On" is another Timeless Classic Baby Maker tune. Gone too soon, for sure. RIP Marvin!
True story - me a 4th grader and this my favorite song because I saw it first on MTV. I didn’t know bout the lyrics but I loved that sound !!! Still loving it at 51 yrs old!
Marvin had one of the greatest voices in popular music. His biographer David Ritz said he "had the voice of an angel trapped in the body of a man". "Sexual Healing" is one of my favorites though I favor the alternate vocal/mix. I echo Dianne Bleacher that you should do "I want you" next. You should also try to find the rehearsal of the song he did for a documentary where he literally was chillin' on a couch and singing it smooth as silk.
Marvin was one of the most conflicted and polarizing artists of all time. There are so many things we will just never know about the man. Just a sad and tragic figure, and an absolutely amazing, ridiculousness talented visionary of an artist. RIP
If you like Marvin Gaye, you will like maybe even love Teddy Pendergass. Check out songs like “Turn off the lights”, “ Love TKO”, “Close the Door”, “Joy”, “When somebody loves you back”,”Come go with me”, “Wake up Everybody”, “ You’re my, My greatest Inspiration”, “ Feel the Fire”, and “ The love I lost”.
Dive down the rabbit hole. There's a lot of stuff there. Start with Let's Get It On. I bet you have already heard that one and didn't know it was him. I love his early work with Motown. Ain't that Peculiar has got to be one of the most overlooked gems from that time.
His voice was possibly the best in music history......lol yes I'm being bias but it definitely is up there as one of the greatest voices ever along with one of the greatest musical artist ever. If you go down this rabbit hole, you will not be disappointed 💯🔥🔥🔥
Yessssa, Marvin was partially responsible for a lot of baby making For 3decades and he was also very socially contious Listen to what's going on, sound's like he could be singing about right now. Please do Let's get it on and Distant Lover
I remember when you could go nowhere for months maybe a year without hearing this blasting. People spontaneously breaking into dance on the streets in the street. 💃🏽 🕺🏽
Marvin (along with Al Green) was one of the sexiest singers EVER. Marvin's career spanned decades and he grew and changed during that time, and his MUSIC grew anc changed. One of his phases was songs like this ... just effortlessly sexy. This is my FAVORITE of Marvin's phases.
Marvin was a musical genius with some of the best pipes period. That man could SING no doubt!!! Too bad he isn't still with us. I miss him very much. Oh and for the record the song came out in 1982 so it's 40 years old this year 2022.
Marvin is unbelievable vocally, and was a multi-instrumentalist. He had early hits solo like Ain’t That Peculiar & Heard it Through the Grapevine, early duet hits with Tami Terrell (Ain’t No Mountain High Enough), and later solo hits like I Want You, and this song. One of a kind.
Marvin was the TOTAL package! Looks, talent and class. This was his last Song (he won Awards for it). I remember when I heard the News he died. I was leaving work and it came over the radio. I had to pull over to the side of the road and just sit there. I was in total shock. Then when I heard it was his Dad who killed him I was in shock all over again. Marvin had his faults (as we all do in one degree or another). I knew his Dad was a preacher and heard Dad was a cross dresser (don't know if that's true or not). I saw an interview with his Father and Marvin. You could see and hear the jealousy/animosity in his Father's Voice and facial expressions. Marvin looked totally uncomfortable and nervous in his Father's presence. It turns out for good reason. 😥
Yes, in reference to the cross dressing, his father did that. Also, Marvin's given last name is 'Gay' but because of his father's behavior added the "E" to it, as so the public who knew what his father did, would not connect the two together.
One of the greatest voices of our time. Marvin is like no other, no other voice like his. Check his rendition of The Star Spangled Banner at the NBA All-Star game in 1983. And the album version of sexual healing has a little tidbit at the end that they couldn't play on the radio. Turn on Some Music is a samplers dream check that out too.
Another great reaction to another great artist! I still commend you for being able to listen to these classics, and still make the faces other people do when they can hear and feel the groove in the music. Marvin is such a legend in his own time, and continues to be so, years after his passing. For another cool reaction, check out Marvin Gaye singing the National Anthem at a Lakers game. Some dig it, some would rather hear it done the traditional way, but perhaps Marvin was the one who influenced others to put their own spin on it. Stay bringin' the great reactions Twon!! Appreciate it!!
Marvin one of the most outstanding artists EVER. His style of music was so diversified, and he composed, played numerous instruments, and sang Check out the album “What’s going on” and check out his duets with Tammi Tyrell. And we’re speaking decades apart! Peace! ✌🏼
Our 4th grade gym teacher used to let us bring 45’s to school t play during exercise. We brought this record in and he was so disappointed 😂😂😂 We really just loved the song and had no clue what it was about. He let us do jumping jacks to it anyway before banning the record 😂😂😂
Marvin was the man, he had swag and style
That's that D.C./DMV swag. lol
The exaggerated swagger of a black teen?
LOL his reaction!
Marvin Gaye is a old school crooner awesome vocal ability extremely creative
Marvin Gaye has the smoothest voice of any male singer I know! Love him! You’re doing a great job young man!
Marvin was not only extremely talented he was also very socially conscious and generous with his time in helping younger artists. A true legend!!
😍

PREACH!
Listen to Marvin Gayes; DISTANT LOVER! 💘
this song was a "baby maker". The man was smooth. Sang about love, politics, war, from the soul.
A vocal phenom...& a musical prophet... Marvin Gaye was ALL DAT (& more). I'd suggest the entire "What's Going On" album. One listen & you'll become a fan for life! And... you're welcome.
Thanks again!
Oh how I miss this man and his glorious voice!

Marvin was the greatest male vocalist of all time. Love your commentaries and innocent reactions!
Marvin Gaye’s “I Want You”…you need to do that next. There’s nothing like it! 😊
👍🏼
Agreed !!!!!!!!!!!
Facts. That is his best...
You aren't supposed to be hearing this young man! 🤣💕
LOL!
Marvin Gaye, doing the national anthem before the 1983 NBA All-Star game in Los Angeles. You must see it.

If you haven’t heard it, you should Marvin Gaye’s song “ Distant Lover” the live version.
Saw the title. Yessssss! I remember dancing to it in my "disco". Wow I was so young then. I guess I had the best music to dance as a teenager.
Marvin had so much sex appeal. He had an Awesome voice! Timeless Classic! This came out in 1982, if I'm not mistaken. "Let's Get It On" is another Timeless Classic Baby Maker tune.
Gone too soon, for sure. RIP Marvin!
Marvin Gaye - "Distant Lover"🔥🔥🔥
Marvin stayed in Belgium in 1981 in the city of Ostend. His hit Sexual Healing was written over there. Just look it up ....
True story - me a 4th grader and this my favorite song because I saw it first on MTV. I didn’t know bout the lyrics but I loved that sound !!! Still loving it at 51 yrs old!
Grown folks music! Marvin always killed it!
You can't believe how many kids are in this world because of that song! You can actually hear panties just magically falling on the floor... :-)
This song was on MTV a LOT in the 80’s.

The music video is just as good as the song... I'm 33. One of my favourite songs.
Marvin was ahead of his time
His voice was possibly the best in music history......lol yes I'm being bias but it definitely is up there as one of the greatest voices ever along with one of the greatest musical artist ever. If you go down this rabbit hole, you will not be disappointed 💯🔥🔥🔥
agreed! He and Ms Houston, the two best ever to do it!
MARVIN GAYE IS MY NUMBER 1 !
This song came out in the 1970's. Still sounds great today in 2021.
No this was released in 1982. I was 13 and it was number one for 10 weeks on the R&B chart back then.

I remember when you could go nowhere for months maybe a year without hearing this blasting. People spontaneously breaking into dance on the streets in the street. 💃🏽 🕺🏽

Don Lemon on CNN did a 1-hour documentary on Marvin Gaye's What's Going On album, which turned 50 this year.
Many, many , many babies were born 9 months after this song was released.

Talking about setting the mood.
There’s so much more to hear of Marvin and other artists of their day. Keep exploring.
