Memory unlocked! I have clear memories of watching this, and probably reading through it too. I think I liked it when I was little? Clearly not too much, since it just left my mind completely for over ten years lol
so interestingly there were two versions of this movie, the one I grew up with and loved as a kid was called "Arthur and the invisibles" which was a US/UK cut of the movie with ALL of arthur and Silenia's romance scenes cut and removed; I only discovered this re-release today by seeing arthur and the minimoys on youtube movies and thinking I had potentially mandela affected myself but also could've sworn and really knew truly believed it was the invisibles. I never knew it was a cut version of the film, and as a kid this movie was a big part of my childhood.
As a kid, I remember watching it on DVD never thinking once of some moments that went over my head. Though I never saw those never before scenes because they were either deleted or I saw the cut version. Oh and there's a TV show, too. Don't know why. As an adult today, it's an okay film 🙄
This movie was a big success in France and definitely is part of my childhood. The French Version is so good with Mylène Farmer as Selenia, I swear to this day I'm still in love with her voice and attitude. Selenia is probably the reason why I love redhead so much now 😅
i grew up with the cencored version on dvd, however when i watch the version on YT movies thats free, THERE WAS SOOOOO MANY THINGS THAT WERE DIFFERENT FROM THE DVD WHEN I WAS A KID
Is it just me or was there a weird trend in the 2000s of kids movies with greedy parents dumping their kids on eccentric relatives. You described Arthur's parents being more interested in the treasure than their lost child, and I immediately thought of Second Hand Lions.
I don't know why, but I really like how this movie is shot. The little details that they focus on, and the small events that take place. It feels cozy and adventurous all in one. I always really enjoyed each step of the puzzle, and the strange way he gets transformed. The animation is a little janky with fast jittery movements, and the designs are interesting? I feel like if the animation was better it would compliment the live-action's cozy feel better.
I recently watched the trilogy series after finding a website that had all three of them that I could watch them on, and honestly the 1st and 3rd movie were the best ones in the series with the 2nd being kinda boring since it’s pretty much a filler movie for the big final coming in the 3rd movie. I really enjoyed watching them, they do have a lot of flaw don’t get me wrong but for me I still enjoy them!
Always love you videos, so it was fun to see you watch one of my old childhood series. It's always refreshing to see how someone who hasn't seen it approaches it! Keep doing what you're doing cool person!
Man I watched this movie and the attached trilogy when I was like 7 ! I still love the sh*t out of it and now that I think about it I really need to rewatch it sometime in the near future ...
Jack and the coocoo clock heart is pretty good, you should enjoy it. As for the minimoys, I remember watching it as a kids with my parents, and liking it ok. My parents found it at least bearable enough, cause they watched the second and third one with me (without me forcing them! I swear! XD). But yeah, it doesn't stand that well the test of time. I wouldn't be as harsh as you were, at least I'd be giving it points for originality, but it has a lot of flaws indeed. Still fun enough to watch, if you can bear the cringes moments (which there are, a number of them, yeah, in the trilogy). The animation is not THAT bad, frankly. Yeah, not on par with the best of the time, and certainly not with the best of today, but it's not bad enough to get me out of the story. Thank you for this review Ros!
I will always remember the background music of "Arthur and the Minimoys". It has a tone that fills my heart, idk what instruments are, i think is a Violin. The thing is, wow.... Is truly amazing. Edit: I searched for the song, and it is: The Minimoys Overture, by Eric Serra, it's truly amazing and it fulfills my heart.
Fun fact! I watched this in theaters when I was a kid, but recently rewatched it as an adult and found out the theater release version was actually a lot different. For example the weird shirt string scene, in the theater version Arthur or one of the characters just happened to have a pocket of string and used it to climb, but as a kid I noticed the Princess climbed in a weird way but didn’t know why. While with other scenes where people flirted with the Princess in a nearly creepy way, her less innocent relationship with Arthur and really any of the weird or offensive scenes, it was just completely cut out. I even managed to rent the movie for years and it always showed the theater version. But when I decided to explore my childhood I streamed it and found out this version existed. So anyway, for people wondering why kids were watching a movie that had a lot of… um… weirdly mature themes, it’s because there’s a edited version where it makes it look like a very innocent quirky adventure. But I have no idea why this version is out now😅
I really liked this movie when it came out, I remember watching it all the time during vacations when I was like 10. Now that I saw this movie again in this video, it really bothers me not only the weird age dynamics of selenia and the way she is sexualized by other characters, but how less fantastical and more human she looks compared to her male counterparts. It is like that meme of “Disney’s/blizzard’s cartoon male x female characters” XD I feel like watching this movie again for nostalgia’s sake, though I remember that even as a kid the two other movies of the trilogy looked bad to the point I couldn’t finish them without cringing
I loved this movie as a kid. I had a dvd of all the three movies and I keep watching them for a whole summer. The way Arthur was made small using the telescope also influenced my fantasy daydreams as well
Thank you, i was hit with a sudden nostalgia after reading loz manga and i remember a movie about little fairies but i don't remember the name of the movie or the character except for the main character Arthur so seeing you upload this Makes that waves of nostalgia finally appearing and could finally rest answered thank you for this
minimoy arthur was able to figure things out because he did these type of things, as hobbies. so when he shrunk he could figure them out. but now like legistics no he wouldve had a problem
This used to be my favorite movie as a kid and even now as an adult I still have a lot of nostalgic love for it. Honestly though, your review is totally fair. I think the thing that makes this movie work so well nowadays is purely the nostalgic factor and also some of the world building elements. When I rewatched it last year with fresh adult eyes, I was honestly taken aback by all of the sexual innuendos and jokes. The pacing of the movie was also incredibly fast and at times it genuinely feels like the entire thing is going on fast forward without really letting you much time to take everything in. It doesn't help that some of the characters also have a tendency to talk really fast. And whilst as a kid, I didn't see any real problems with Selenias and Arthurs relationship, as an adult it left me a bit uncomfortable. All that being said, I still love the movie and world because it holds a special place in my heart. As for why there's two different version of the movie, "Arthur and the Invisibles" is a US cut of the movie where a lot of the sexual jokes ( and I believe Selenias and Arthurs first kiss ) were entirely cut from the movie. "Arthur and the Minimoys" is still the original and full version of the movie. Though the other two movies are absolutely not worth any time. Even when I was a diehard Minimoys fan, the other two movies were incredibly boring. The movies had the opposite problem of feeling like they were way too long and the pacing was insanely slow, the parents were even more unlikable and the world felt even more clunky. The only good parts of the movies were that Betamesh honestly became even funnier, as he became sort of angstier and made more jokes that felt more pessimistic ( which weirdly enough worked really nice for him ), and Darkos, who got a major character step up that made him honestly very likable. Everything else is rather bland and boring. I was honestly surprised to see this review. Despite the fact that a large amount of people have seen this movie, basically nobody talks about it. I think the movie is really only good in the eyes of the people who grew up with it, but unfortunately not so much for people who are watching it for the first time. Its definitely a product of it's time.
The fact I actually never watched the movie at first but actually played the PSP videogame, and honestly the game does a better job at explaining the story than the movie itself
I found this movie randomly in a box in 2013 when my son was 5, we watched this countless times, if only you could know that you're in the best times of your life while you're in them. Hes going to be annoyed with me when i re live those moments with him as a teenager tomorrow during movie night lmao.
So I just learnt that there's multiple versions of this film, because the one I watched all the time didn't have those weird and racist scenes. I don't think I would've liked these films if I saw the version you saw, because wow, that's shocking
I grew up with the cut version, Arthur and the Invisibles. My sister and I rented Arthur and the Minimoys on youtube without realising it was a different version until the uncut scene started popping up, it has sort of ruined my nostalgia for the version I saw as a kid.
I have a question can you do the movie "the breadwinner" I don't think it gets the recognizion it deserves and also really unpopular if you ask me and it shows the reality really truly and it also made by the same studio that made the wolfwalkers
I watched this on Netflix when I was a kid! This one, and the HOLE TRILOGY It was my first introduction to that kind of genre of “normal kid finds a new world or kingdom and goes in adventure” and since it was my only known movie of that kind, I ended up loving it (though now in the review of some scenes I think there are definitely weird and uncomfortable things that where best to forget) i ended up watching it constantly even now after like 14 years of the first time I watched (I didn’t watch it when it came out it was much later) still remember the plot of both movies but sincerely…… i think I preferred the first one? …..And…..I had a crush on Selenia and that not impacted in me liking so much the movie…nor my tendency to fall in love with red hair man/woman…
The world building of this film is mesmerizing. I still can’t believe that there’s an Author Invisible based them park in Europe, hope it’ll still be there when I get my chance to go to Europe 😅
Wow, I did NOT remember any of that from this movie lol. But it was nice to see someone review it! I do have an... Odd movie suggestion though. There is a movie called 'A Monster Calls' and it is weird to say the least. Its a dark fantasy, and the art is quite stunning at times. The story is depressing though, but damn if I wasn't hooked.
I used to have this movie on dvd and it was the cut version, but I also think they changed the narrator and the parents where actually worried about their kid being missing.
I acctually saw the movie as a kid and remember really liking it. However I also remember not really understanding the plot and it all felt like a fever dream lol.
i watched this when i was 6 and i loved it. i though it was just one movie and never thought to check if their was sequels. The joy i felt when i saw the second movie on youtube was indescribable.
the last time I watched the movies, I was like 8 at the latest. I guess my innocence shielded me from the creepiness of this movie and made me enjoy it more. I would totally watch it again now just to laugh at it, it seems much different from how I remembered it as a child! Thanks for the review : )
Woooooah, that the weirdest feeling ever unlocking that memory literally has been stored in the back of my mind since I watched it when it came out. Legit felt like an old machine covered in dust starting up again
I literally had a crush on Selenia when I was a kid. I used to watch this movie a lot in my language, hearing her English voice now, I think I'd be even more in love. Also played the video game which was hella hard for me as a child, I never finished the last mission (still hate driving in games lol)
Watched the Movie series as a kid and was spooked by the Minimoys... And they still creep me out lol Didn't stop me from watching it over and over again tho.
I used to be obsessed with this movie as a child! I even had a crush on Arthur lol. The voices didn't seem weird to me bc it was in greek therefore the voice actors were different. Then I rewatched it years after years (and after reading the books) and hated it. The books definitely were deeper, the relationship between arthur and selenia(?) didn't feel very forced or weird, the "bad patenting" you mentioned was there but it wasn't as 'randomly extreme' as in the movie (if I remember correctly), we get a better backstory on M and the characters in general were not badly written. The only thing that was the same was Arthur's "invincibility" as a minimoy. I feel like the movie didn't do the story justice at all! Everything went by so quickly to me but anyways. AMAZING VIDEO! THANK YOU FOR REVIEWING THIS MOVIE! can't wait for the boy with the cuckoo clock heart, it's one of my favourites!😍😍💖💖
Being a kid back then it was fun to watch. Now if look like it was made in a high school film class and the also gives off a children’s video game vibe
I remember being weirded out by the animation even a kid, to the point I never ended up seeing it. Even now I really don’t know if I could get past it. Arthur especially looks freakin nuts.
FINALLY! Someone acknowledging this movie!!! XD although I'm surprised you didn't clock the lip syncing XD even as a kid I noticed moments in the movie where the lip synching with the voice acting was way off😅
Only ever watched the first one in between TV programs, and the only thing I really remember liking was the small world fantasy and Selenia...they got the eye candy down pat and combined with her rebellious or tomboy personality she was also my type. What can I say, I like tough or badass girls.

Never saw the movie itself, but there was a behind-the-scenes special on either FoxBox or 4KidsTV that I watched because I didn't have much else to do on that Saturday morning. Sidenote, but one cool thing about this movie is that it's a lot like the reboot of Thunderbirds, in that it features CGI character on real miniature sets.
I remember this movie and I remember loving it. I believe I've seen the uncut version, though I don't remember the racist stuff. I was fine with the 1000 year old girl and arthur since they explain that they are roughly the same age
I have this movie on DVD and I loved it as a kid, I was always the adventurous type so I didn't mind the main charater being OP but I guess that's just a kids thing. Only when you are older you start caring more about how realistic or not the movie is. Another thing is that I haven't seen this movie in more than 7 years and oh boy how much better it looked in my memories, it didn't age well. One more thing I remember liking about this movie is that Selenia's design reminded me of Lady Sylvana from WoW which I was obsessed with at the time (I know, an unusual game for a kid).
Ngl didnt know that there was a uncut and cut version so i was confused when you were showing those scenes. I agree with selina and arthur being a bit weird as a pair, while technically they are the same age selina is written like shes a teen at the very least which i associate with her species aging differently to humans. Arthur even transforms to a minymoi her age so i think the whole thing between them is them misunderstanding where they stand maturity wise. Selina thinks hes just naive but minymoi mature like her and he thinks shes just a smaller 10 year old. Its weird and i think it really shouldnt have been a dynamic tbh. But overall i think the cut version does stand stronger then the uncut version, it feels like a b rate kids movie instead of a weird adult movie thats badly trying to pass off as a kids movie
I would love if you did Guardians of Ga'hoole... one of my fav movies ever. it can probably be confusing at times cuz it's about talking owls, but it's from 2010 and the visuals are still SOOO GOOOOOD

so interestingly there were two versions of this movie, the one I grew up with and loved as a kid was called "Arthur and the invisibles" which was a US/UK cut of the movie with ALL of arthur and Silenia's romance scenes cut and removed; I only discovered this re-release today by seeing arthur and the minimoys on youtube movies and thinking I had potentially mandela affected myself but also could've sworn and really knew truly believed it was the invisibles.
And don't forget a horrible meta horror spinoff.
“French film-maker…mmm…” Me too girl me too I wouldn’t even attempt to pronounce that
This movie was a big success in France and definitely is part of my childhood. The French Version is so good with Mylène Farmer as Selenia, I swear to this day I'm still in love with her voice and attitude. Selenia is probably the reason why I love redhead so much now 😅
OMG, you always take back to my childhood
I already forgotten this movie, until I saw the thumbnail
I feel like you’re just taking the piss with you rolling your Rs now RosMo, too funny 😂
Gonna shake things up once in a while 😂
I like how despite not really enjoying the movie you still managed to find some aspects you liked😊
i grew up with the cencored version on dvd, however when i watch the version on YT movies thats free, THERE WAS SOOOOO MANY THINGS THAT WERE DIFFERENT FROM THE DVD WHEN I WAS A KID
I really enjoyed watching them, they do have a lot of flaw don’t get me wrong but for me I still enjoy them!
agreed. and even if the second movie is definitely a filler i kinda enjoy the way the did it, made me want to come back to find/watch the 3rd movie
Where did you watch it at
I just wanted to watch the scene where the characters drive a wind-up car through a sewer pipeline.
Always love you videos, so it was fun to see you watch one of my old childhood series.
It's always refreshing to see how someone who hasn't seen it approaches it! Keep doing what you're doing cool person!
....I thought this movie was a fever dream AND THERE'S A TRILOGY?
Man I watched this movie and the attached trilogy when I was like 7 ! I still love the sh*t out of it and now that I think about it I really need to rewatch it sometime in the near future ...
th-cam.com/video/e26pdpY0hXA/w-d-xo.html
As a child I enjoyed this film and found it beautiful very magical to me
As an adult I felt this was awkward and confusing
At the very least if she doesn't like the movie I hope we can all agree the soundtrack is amazing
@@Don_LUSH The soundtrack was good, yes. Most of the actors (at least for the live action part) are also pretty good.
The way Arthur was made small using the telescope also influenced my fantasy daydreams as well
I barely remember this movie, but I remember watching it. Thank you for bringing back my childhood to my mind
OMG!!! I just talked about this movie in the last video!!! AAAAHHHHH!!!
I'm so glad they took a Teen or straight up Adult to Voice German Arthur
why ur glad
Congrats for 100k subscribers🎉🎉🎉
Thank you!! 💕💕💕
OMG I USED TO WATCH THAT AS A CHILD , i cant believe i still remember it after so many years and people still talk about it
This movie started my love for vintage clothing, im not even joking.
This series used to play each christmas when I was 4-11, then it just stopped. I still love it and will miss it.
I grew up with the cut version, Arthur and the Invisibles. My sister and I rented Arthur and the Minimoys on youtube without realising it was a different version until the uncut scene started popping up, it has sort of ruined my nostalgia for the version I saw as a kid.
Dude I’m going to cry I’m so happy that other people watch this movie cuz I felt like no body knew about this movie other then me and my sister
I have a question can you do the movie "the breadwinner" I don't think it gets the recognizion it deserves and also really unpopular if you ask me and it shows the reality really truly and it also made by the same studio that made the wolfwalkers
Yessssssssss Do "The Breadwinner"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cartoon saloon movies are so underrated
@@hastiborhani3492 They be doing the best but ain't getting the attention
@@Xx_Yasomi_xX fr it's so frustrating,I love their movies
@@hastiborhani3492 They so are!!! And I wish they wouldn't be....BECAUSE THEY ARE SO GOOD!!!!!!!
I watched this movie, and the other 2 movies that continue it, as a kid with my sister. I really enjoyed it without dissecting it.
Finally someone admits it. It's a pity that the worldbuilding gets so few attention
IVE BEEN GENUINLY LOOKING FOR THIS MOVIE FOR 6 YEARS THANK YOU
Mostly for the staying alive scene. It was one of my favs as a kid
THEY MADE 3 OF THESE??? I always thought the first one flopped and that was it :o
OH How I wish that was the case! HAHAH
i watched this when i was 6 and i loved it. i though it was just one movie and never thought to check if their was sequels.
Thank you. I was trying to look for this movie and your video was the first one i found.
Watched the Movie series as a kid and was spooked by the Minimoys... And they still creep me out lol
Didn't stop me from watching it over and over again tho.
I thought that was a fever dream. Found it 3 years ago then and lol. It’s fun actually when you’ve watched it as a kid
I WAS JUST WATCHING THE DANCE FIGHT SCENE YESTERDAY.
Only part I remember is the Horrific scene where Arthur is squeezed to death and his corpse rod has its fluids poured down into the mini world.
Huh. I was today years old when I found out there was more than one Arthur movie. 😳
Looking forward for more video! you have a great review. when i saw this when i was younger i actually had the same perspective.
THANK YOU FOR REVIEWING THIS MOVIE! can't wait for the boy with the cuckoo clock heart, it's one of my favourites!😍😍💖💖
wait there are books?
Being a kid back then it was fun to watch. Now if look like it was made in a high school film class and the also gives off a children’s video game vibe
I remember being weirded out by the animation even a kid, to the point I never ended up seeing it. Even now I really don’t know if I could get past it. Arthur especially looks freakin nuts.
FINALLY! Someone acknowledging this movie!!! XD although I'm surprised you didn't clock the lip syncing XD even as a kid I noticed moments in the movie where the lip synching with the voice acting was way off😅
As a kid this terrified me almost as much as Coraline T - T
Why?
Finally people will know what I talk about.
No one ever gets it and every time I wanna cry 😭
Only ever watched the first one in between TV programs, and the only thing I really remember liking was the small world fantasy and Selenia...they got the eye candy down pat and combined with her rebellious or tomboy personality she was also my type. What can I say, I like tough or badass girls.
Lmao that introduction was unexpected. *RRRRRRR* Ros Mo
i genuinely thought this movie was just different scenes from the movie epic, but it was my jam when i was a kid
That Invincible Joke got me real good! XD
love this review but ill be real the “invincible” bit with the cut to that title screen took me out 😂😂😂 so funny
OH MY GOD IVE BEEN TRYING TO THE REMEMBER THIS MOVIES NAME FOR A YEAR RHANK YOU ROS MO I AM SUBBING BECAUSE YOU HAVE CALMED MY DESIRE TO FIND THIS MOVIE AND YOURE JUST FUNNY
WELCOME TO THE CHANNEL THAN YOU FOR WATCHING IM FLATTERED YOU THINK IM FUNNY! HAVE A GOOD DAY 💛💛
It's hilarious to me that there's SO many big names involved in the movies, but damn near none of them mention the movies
Even nostalgia doesn't help this film
This movie is a masterpiece, nothing can change my mind 🌸
Same! Too bad theres no fandom of it.

Damn I remember this fever dream of movie. Good to see it's still weird as I remember.
I never even knew about the full version of this movie until now xD
I would love if you did Guardians of Ga'hoole... one of my fav movies ever. it can probably be confusing at times cuz it's about talking owls, but it's from 2010 and the visuals are still SOOO GOOOOOD
correction the movie is called "legend of the guardians: the owls of Ga'hoole" which is based off of the guardians of Ga'hoole books
