Hey Peter!! It was my pleasure to have been on of your guides in Lisboa. What a great video! I was eager to see more shots that you took from when I wasn't with you and they turned out great.
Regarding your video, I usually also bring a plan when I am in vacation and challenge myself either by choosing a theme, or by just taking minimal gear and having to work with what I have on me.
All the best to you!! And hope to see you again in the near future!!

I love street art too. These are great images. I like the tip about including some of the environment to add to the story telling. Very effective.

    Fantastic images, dear Peter!
The umbrella below the tears is really amazing. Top moment!
About planning: I prefer go out spontaneously to feel the place at first
Then planning to come back, e.g. at a special spot during blue hour

Thanks you very much! You have a good way of combining two methods.

Thanks Peter - a great video. I think the key with a plan is to overlay it with flexibility ; thus if you see a great image but its nothing to do with the plan then go for it. I particularly liked the concept of placing the image in the overall scene and maximising the opportunity for human or other interest. Great set of images 1

Hi Peter, I don't suppose you've heard of Janina Ramirez? She's a British art historian, a professor at the University of Oxford I think. A few years ago she made a series of TV programmes about the art of various cities including Beirut, Baku and Lisbon. In the Lisbon one she said that the street art scene had its roots in protest against the Salazar dictatorship which is presumably when the authorities clamped down on its political aspects. Incidentally she also talked about the famous tiled buildings and the haunting and sad Fado music. I can't find the programme on TH-cam which isn't surprising as the BBC doesn't like people uploading their content but if you ever have the opportunity to watch it I'm sure you'll find it interesting.

Thank you very much!. I will try to find that programme.

Very interesting video Peter, I too am fascinated by good street art and look out for it when I am in urban environments. I do agree that if you can capture it in more than just a reference photographic way it can be more satisfying…even if that is not possible I at least try to give it context in some way. Many thanks!

    Hi Peter
In the month of June I spent a month in Europe my first time in 35 years a week in Northern Italy, two days in Berlin, a week in Prague and a week in Budapest. I did a little of both planning and walking tours photographing anything of interest. I shot upwards of 4 thousand pictures and spent a month editing my pictures I plan on going back and reviewing my pictures over the upcoming holidays. The gear I took a 8mm Rokinon 3.5 fisheye , 35mm2.4, 50mm1.8 and a Sigma 18 -250 3.5 -5.6 and a 55-300 weather sealed lens I found I needed a weather sealed lens shorter than 55 mm and have since ordered a 16-50 2.8 weather sealed used lens. It sells new for $ 1200.00 I found a used one from a reputable retailer for $250.00 with 6 month guarantee so I bought it. Now I could alter my kit to three lenses the 8 mm 3.5 fisheye , 16-50 and 55'- 300.

My eyes went directly to the boy on the lamppost and the wavy blue lines led my eyes to the people in the picture, then to the guy in the green shirt and finally to the yellow car. I thought you presented that on purpose.

You are right and sometimes a thing like that works. In my opinion it distracted the view slightly. The project was about the art.

Do you prefer using a zoom or prime when you're shooting this type of art?

For the female face pic: whats about an angle from the street in viewing direction of her between the 2 cars. bottom up with wide angle.

No Plan. If I use a plan, it shows up like someone else photographs

You mean that if you plan you take the same images as everybody else?
