For those who are wondering the seat cushions were actually very hard to remove due to some buttons on the top face sewn in, they did have zippers and some weird way of detaching them but the customer was afraid they wouldnt go back on correctly or would shrink in the wash.
Not everyone can afford new things and our second hand stores around here dont have many nice things. This couch was actually very high quality and the material is easy to clean with the right soloutions and equipment, it didnt smell terrible only like cigarette smoke and when we were finished it smelled fresh and was squeaky clean!

Wow! It looks like a beautiful, comfy, couch once again.👏🏻 This is why I toss thin blankets down on my couches. They go into the wash every week and it's like my couch got a wash.

I worked for a company in the mid 80's that specialized in carpet, upholstery, emergency water extraction, painting, and janitorial. Equipment seems to have advanced a lot since then, but I can appreciate how difficult this job was. Awesome results! 😊👍

Very few craftsmen in this day and age. This is a MASTER CRAFTSMAN!!!!! My couch isn’t this bad but it is a year old and if he was in my area I would hire him to do my couch twice a year! Easy! ❤

Someone should start a collection to buy this couple a fresh, new couch. Your effort was absolutely incredible (you're braver than I would be!), but I think the couch itself was physically just so far gone that it may have been healthier for them to start fresh.
Definitely if I had the money do donate I would have done that but I'm just a small business owner with a family, this was the customers request. It actually didn't smell either not sure what the mystery stains were but it was mostly grease and cigarette smoke witch they still smoked in the house. Thank for watching 👀 🙏
Inside the cushions it is probably still dirty. But the outside looks 95% better.

I remember that my grandfather (who passed away already many years ago) used to smoke a lot! Malboro to be more specific. He would smoke in his room while watching tv and at night too (also when we were at the table eating..) but the smoking inside his room was so severe that my grandma used to sleep in another room. Everything in the room he slept in was yellow brow. He had the same cortains that we had in ths rest of the house and you woukd not even think they were the same because of the color. The walls, the furniture, the hanginf frames, everything turned yellow from all those years smoking more than one box a day.
It's crazy how much damage cigarettes can do to a property. Thank for watching 👀 🙏 ☺️
Reminds me of my grandparents house. I always thought they had yellow wallpaper. Turns out it was actually cream. And they smoked in all the rooms accept the spare one that we would sleep in now and then.

Oooo weeee! This young man worked diligently on this couch for the couple. I wasn’t sure why the cushion covers couldn’t of gone in the washer.Fabulous job cleaned and sanitized.
Thank you. To answer your question as well, the covers were sewn on with these buttons on the top face, making it very difficult to remove. We decided to leave them in place and clean top down. Worked well and didn't smell at all! Thanks for watching 👀 😀

Wow. What was the upholstery made of - was it fabric? It looks very durable: from an era when things were meant to last a lifetime. This type of workout is sure to give you nice muscles.😅
Haha it's definitely not easy. And the material was a higher grade microfiber it usually cleans up well. Older furniture always seems to be made from higher quality materials. Thanks for watching 👀

Whoa that couch was really bad before you got to it. I like that you demonstrated that in a lot of cases, all the furniture needs to be as good as new is a serious, deep cleaning. No need to spend $$$ on a new couch or add more waste to a landfill.

The owner I presume, says oil in the video. Did she explain what oil she’s referring to like oily hair residue or bodily fluid oils?
Body oils mostly from hair and skin, she could have also worn alot of creams or actual body oil it was an old couch didnt smell terrible and cleaned up well, Thanks for watching!
It’s from body hair and dead skin oils. Would happen more if the person goes topless a lot, especially in the hot and sweaty weather. Long hair could also be the reason

Pro tip:
The cushions have zippers.
They do, but they also had these buttons holding it onto the cusion making them very difficult to remove and wash in a washer. Thanks tho I definitely open the zipper and flush the foam if a spot keeps wicking back. Good tip! 👍
I did that with the couch of my grandma, I removed the buttons and washed the covers in the washing machine. You need a second person to fill the covers again as they may shrink a little bit. I did not re-sew the buttons, but it was then my couch.

The seat cushions have a removable outer jacket. Those can be slipped off and placed into the washing machine.

The makeover is incredible such a transformation! One thing that puzzles me though is that if the covers are made to come off and are washable, can they be cleaned that way? Obviously the rest of the sofa would still need to be cleaned as you have done it. Great job.

I need some of your tools for my two leather recliner sofas. Whilst they are nowhere near this bad, it is a very time consuming and hard work to clean and condition them.
