I love this boardgame!
As you demonstrated, going only carnivore rarely works out, but mixing a carnivore into a mostly herbivore strategy can be amazing.
I do have to say that after playing Climate, I can't go back to the base game. The extra dimension it adds to the game is really nice. It's an expandalone (you don't need the base game) so if anyone is thinking of getting a physical version of this I recommend Climate.

Skycroft1000 Nocturnal is fun until you accidentally mess it up yourself, as it counts *any* carnivores on the field.
I totally agree. Evolution: Climate is an amazing game.
The climate track requires you to play more reactive and can help with aggressive carnivore strategies as well, as the climate track helps you to change the amount of food available.
I love this board game, please do more of this, Quill.

I think the right play was to attack his own species that was going to lose population from starvation anyway.
That way he loses nothing, and gets a point for food and a point for population.
@@mcblaggart8565 the other had that trait where they can eat everytime an carnivore attacks... so no...
should have tried to kill the one with body size 1 to remove point for traits...
@TheTenshitobias It's been a week, so I'm not sure, but I think I was talking about the attack at 42:35 . None of the relevant species had the scavenger trait. The one I said he should have attacked is his second from the left.
This game has a golden lion tamarind on the main menu. We've done it. We've found the best game.
When you made a video on this a while ago I snatched up the physical copy quick. Its been great to play with my family every so often.
I'd love to see more games of this, kinda like you did some Through the Ages.

As someone with no friends im glad this wonderful game is digital. If it was irl only id probably never have learnt about it
Really would like to see more modes of this like the campaign with different AI or online matchmaking, if the multiplayer is stressful you can still do a post commentary.

What happened to the other 164 Quills?
played Climate twice with gamers. Absolutely hated it. Problem is the lack of player agency - the obvious thing is the only thing you actually can do. Not the switch fault.
The physical boardgame is in my personal top 10. But quite many of my friends can not get into it, a bit sad. That's also the reason I didn't buy the climate expansion as the game is underplayed already. I did back their new game Oceans though even it it will compete with this one IRL.
I see that some cards are a bit different and the rule for eating a species with 1 population that has already eaten has changed, in the physical game the player of the carnivore can put the food token in the bag.

Why don't you just add new species instead of more pop?
More species = more food + more cards.
Adding more species is kind of a gamble. It's much easier to defend 2 species than 4 and if someone decides to make a carnivore you're gonna be first on the chopping block if you have a lot of species.

12:00 You said they keep the food as points even if the species is attacked and loses that population and even mention that the ai made a mistake by not feeding the vulnerable species but at the point scoring that ai only got to keep the 2 food that was gained on its surviving species, based on the animation of the two green pips going to their bag. Point scoring seems to occur after the feed phase and only for surviving species so you did actually deny points on both species even though one had been fed already.
Edit: Wow, it was a really quick animation but killing a species the lost pip does instantly fly into the score bag. That explains why it's been tripping me up. Also a bit misleading. The game clearly shows how much food gets banked by everyone at the end but those pips that fly in during the feeding phase happen quicker and can fly under the radar. You don't get to know explicitly an opponents score but stuff like that will make it a bit harder to keep track.

Men can have long hair. If you check out one of his videos with a face cam you can get a closer look at him, he does look rather masculine even with his long hair.

Love this game so much. I bought it at the 6 minute mark lol
I still fondly remember playing with Flight and screwing over my entire family; I had a 5/3 bird (in Flight, you can discard two cards to create a flying creature: one of their three trait slots is locked as Flying (counters itself like Climbing and is also a pseudo-Intelligence), and they have to eat their body size's worth of food, which does not grant you points, before filling their population). It had Carnivore. On the final turn, I discarded that trait off of it and replaced it with another Carnivore, face down like usual (and even flipped the Flying token herbivore face up), and laughed like a BBEG who succeeded in their BBEP when the traits were revealed.
They didn't like it as much as I did.

I hope they've implemented what's contained in "Evolution: Climate", the standalone expansion which I got myself as physical game. I feel like without the climate element, huge herbivores or, even worse, carnivores can't face any consequences apart from low food (which usually isn't a problem for carnivores).
I'm really into card games lately, so I bought this one :)
