    Note: According to experienced players of the tabletop game, it looks like the AI in this digital version is somewhat less than challenging.

      Agreed. Been doing the closed beta, and I love the physical game. I recommend getting Prelude and Elysium and Venus Next for the physical game if you enjoy this, they add a lot to the game. There were still some bugs so we will see if they are there in the full game!

      Yeah, sadly the only thing that stopped me from buying this game. I would have loved to have a SP alternative to this, and I didn't even require a hugely capable AI... but if it blatantly passes up on obvious points and plays completely nonsensical, that's a no deal for me.

    Ignoring the card that let's him spend Titanium and then cycle itself for the ocean and then immediately consider spending actual money for the ocean. Classic Quill.

    To all the Quill fans out there who might be thinking about getting a board game:
    If this style of game interestes you Surviving Mars is a great intro to medium weigth enigine builders. If the general gameplay is interesting to you there are two other games I would recommend. Nations wraps similar mechanics into a Civ style game and Scythe might be just the right fit for all the steampunk folk around here.

      If you're looking for something more advanced, I suggest trying out Twilight Imperium. They made a true 4x board game, in a sci-fi galaxy with a whole booklet of lore if you want that.

    This game is absolutely worth it. If you do get it, the Prelude expansion is also a must buy. It fixes my biggest grip with the game, which is that is starts of really slow.

    Given the appearance of Terraforming Mars and as of yet absent KSP Monday mission to Duna, should we infer that the Duna mission went horribly wrong? Did mission control send scores of hapless Kerbals to their deaths?

    Cards like AI Central are actually quite good, since they let you get cards without having to pay for them, and any cards you don't want/can't use anymore you can just sell

  • @vineheart01
    @vineheart01 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    In the actual boardgame, there are 3 maps you can play on. I forget which but one of them has an Award for the most actual steel/titanium stored (as in, stockpile not the production). Other than that you are correct there is no reason to stockpile steel/titanium other than saving them to make an expensive card cheaper. Most effects that use them only use 1 at a time.

    • @TuomasPiirainen
      @TuomasPiirainen 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually the base game only has that one board. Hellas & Elysium is an expansion that only brings two new boards. It does add to the replayability of the game.

    I appreciate this video. However, just preference, I like the card & board game better. I realize it's just a preference, I guess for the "physical" items and such. But this has helped with how the rules are. Thank you for the video.

    Note: beginner corporation is not a competitive pick. It is trash even in the board game where you are able to see your first ten cards before picking corporations as rarely do you even want to keep five of those.

      I think it would be more logical if it stood for Million Euro. Or even more likely Milliard Euro (From the Long Numerical Scale used in most of Europe: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_and_short_scales#Long_scale )

    • @MrThomasBrix
      @MrThomasBrix 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mega = 1000000. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mega-

    • @PhoenixNL72-DEGA-
      @PhoenixNL72-DEGA- 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrThomasBrix Yes, but no one ever uses Mega or Giga in reference to money. Someone is a Millionair or Billionair, not a Meganair or Giganair. We also don't use it in relation to time. E.g: "The dinosaurs went extinct 65 Million years ago."
      So it's weird to use Mega euro or Mega buck in a game, when we never do that in real life.
      Also 1,000,000 Euro wouldn't get you anywere. Space programs work with Billions of Euros (Or actually Milliard in Western Europe) for big projects. Hence why I said it was more likely to stand for "Milliard Euros"

    Meeeeeeh we didn't really need Deimos anyways. It's only got a million years or so before it's just flung into space by natural forces, and it's so small that you can escape it's gravity well with a sick jump. It's better served as a large lump of metal on the planet's surface.

    Having played the physical game, I never saw what made it so special. It's too long for what it is and downtime is too long as well. Not to mention the depth to time ratio. As far as Mars games go, Mission Red Planet is the best one available currently, but Vital Lacerda is currently testing a heavy Mars game and his designs have never failed to satisfy.
