1) Never watched you before 2) I lol'd hard at your prancing 3) I lol'd hard at your wine analogy 4) Bastard. Now I have to buy this awesome game. Great review
@@emilekroth100 At least you're not exhausted. On the plus side you might get to do dome interchange in a new land. Vikings can't take you on a raid if you're already living at the destination!
After 10 days of delivery time, and two weeks of trying to find a day in which me and my friends could play this, yesterday night i finally got to try this game. And i have to thank you Quinns, like a lot, because this is the first war game i play and i had a total blast with it! I sincerely hope that Academy Games will give us some other episodes of the birth of Europe saga if this is the quality level! Anyway this is not the first game i buy thanks to SU&SD (Secrets, Cosmic Encounter, Azul, Magic Maze, Fugitive, Concordia, Pandemic Legacy S1 and probably a couple other things) but i dont usualy comment onto any videos, but while i was writing down my bgg review of 878 thee, oh prancing Quinns, popped to my mind and i had to thank you not just there but here. I started following you since your Root review and never let go after it, you guys make me fall into this hobby even more and i found the humor perfectly suiting mine (had to use the "how many vikings?!" while playing and it delivered). Thanks, once again, and sorry for this very big comment, Ciao from Italy :D
*Listening to the Church Module recap.* Sounds like what happened in the actual time period. One Viking Jarl wanted to take cities. Another wanted to rob churches. English hated both happening and kicked the Vikings out with renewed vigor.
Didn't mention the boat ships expansion, I thought that one seemed neat and unintrusive. Basically when a viking lands you drop a ship token, ship tokens allow Vikings to jump between them like portals, English can attack the ships to cut off supply routes, and I believe another win condition if they wipe them all out.
When you said the expansion was modules I didn't think it'd be that bad, it made me think of Merchants and Marauders. Alas, it seems they tried to take it too far with the whole KS tomfoolery.
Just recently discovered your videos, and boy does it almost pain me (aka my wallet) to see how many incredible games there are out there that I would just love to play. Always looking for great friends to play with and for great games to play! So thank you for doing something that not only is very useful to consumers, but also incredibly entertaining to watch. Keep it up mate! From the shores of NJ!
I had trouble, at first, figuring out why the other person was on screen due to the perceived different clothing. Then I realized jean shorts are apparently still a thing.
First instinct seeing this is that you could introduce a really interesting Picts/Scots expansion. The board almost looks like it's been made with that in mind
The best review of this game I have seen. Many thanks! It is definitely coming into my collection. And I appreciate the notes on the expansion (and expansions in general).
War of 1812 is still one of my favourite games of all times. Quite possibly one of my top 5 games I own. Really looking forward to getting my copy of 878 Vikings now!
I've owned 1812 for years , but I haven't yet managed to get it to the table except once where I played a two player game with my mom and we quit part way through for unrelated reasons. It sits on my shelf, waiting for the day that I think four of my friends will actually commit a couple hours to it.
I've loved 1775 for years for these exact reasons: The gameplay is fast. You can utilize high strategy with troop movement. Random turn order could be a benefit or a detriment, which gives randomness that doesn't detract from the strategy you so perfectly planned. And finally, the different armies have different dice, meaning it's not just simple Risk throws of win or lose, but you can actually feel victorious when you 'lose' a dice roll. Bringing in Vikings to this game is a solid win in my book.
You had to have known the expac was gonna be bad when you saw the whole box floating around in the ocean. No way he'd do that to the box of a game he loved lol
I actually like three or four. With three, we did two as the Brits and the Vikings together. We found if the Berserkers didn't go first in a turn, then they didn't have a lot to do. Remember that if there is a battle with a Berserker, the first one has to be red (berserker). Also, with no flees, the reds don't get many pieces. Finally, we only play with the churches and forts expansion. That one seems to be necessary. Overall we really like this game. Good review.
Small addendum on pronouncing Fyrd. The Old English here is generally said as "Furd". Y in Old English is pronounced like a u with an umlaut in German.
You'd think TH-cam, with all its heuristics and algorithms, would know to snip the "please subscribe" portion of the video for those of us who have already subscribed.
Fun fact about berserkers. They wore that bear skin as warning to their own troops. Berserkers would be drugged up before a battle and not know friend from foe, thus the bear skin shows their friends to stand as far away as possible.
4:27 - the music is from the game DRAGON PASS , and the track is SEA SEASON. You can check it out on youtube yourself! Hooray, I remembered it! :D I have got to have won something with this knowledge OR there is a very real risk I have wasted my life. Please. Please you guys!
Hilarious review, the theme in this game is very enticing. A great game but even an even greater review of the game. This game has won numerous awards: 2017 Golden Geek Best Wargame Winner 2017 Golden Geek Best Wargame Nominee 2017 Golden Geek Best 2-Player Board Game Nominee I'll be playing this one next, largely due to this amazingly entertaining review I've come to expect from you.
After some plays, today I just use the ships, Ragnar and Laguerta as expansions. Churches and Relics when I use is the only objetive. Like a new end game. :)
I watched this before the pandemic, and during the pandemic I played king of dragon pass. So now on the rewatch, GAHHHH KING OF DRAGON PASS SOUNDTRACK. Also I own 878 now, and am desperately trying to get my friends to play it :(
14:45 “But! For every church you burn, you’re giving the English a Fyrd card, which they can deploy to any battle they want.” Well if that isn’t the most boardgame-y thing said this year.
I've played this game two times now, and I'm really worried that this game does not work as a team game. This is for no other reason than playing only the Red (berserker) vikings does not seem very fun. It was more enjoyable at 2 players than 4.
Looks good. There's a lot of "stuff" in the backdrops now with that whole wall of mirror? Your disjointed legs or just seeing the back of you moving around on the other side of the frame is a bit distracting.
I bought random cool looking dice from a thrift shop years ago and now I finally know where they came form.
1) Never watched you before
2) I lol'd hard at your prancing
3) I lol'd hard at your wine analogy
4) Bastard. Now I have to buy this awesome game. Great review
Oh, these guys have made me want to buy more games more than any other BG site. They are both wonderful, and terrible.
+Pajman77 I bought my first board game because of this guy's. It was imperial assault. The second was dead of winter and there are more haha
4:27 to see Quin prance.
Most entertaining board game channel on TH-cam. But I also find it super informative.
@@darthhideous8 Come for the prancing, stay for the prancing.
I can't count the number of times I wake up to a phone call about a Viking invasion.
Is it 878?
Is that why your exhausted?
Same, but I'm a Scandinavian so it's more of a "Aye mate, are you in?"
@@emilekroth100 At least you're not exhausted.

4:27 - That "King of Dragon Pass" music is engraved into my brain...
I'm always a little unnerved by the lengths Quinns sometimes goes to when dealing with the boxes of his games. So much carnage.
I'm actually almost panicking.
Normally you throw the game box into the sea AFTER a review, which handily serves as a final score.

"like a katamari made of axes" Okay, that was worth the price of supporting right there.
I have no idea what 'a bit bobbins' means.
means something is a bit rubbish.
Yeah, I don't know if I'm going to hear a better phrase in a board game review than that.
Checking in after three years. Still nothing better than "a katamari made of axes"
Favorite review by far! “What!? How many Vikings!?”😂😂
Nice King of Dragon Pass music
Yess
Xopie I knew it!
I am sorry to inform you that your application did not meet the standards of the Ministry of Silly Walks. We truly wish you better luck next time.
To be fair, I think you've judged him too harshly...it was a silly run.
That one prancing scene where you used the soundtrack from the King of Dragon Pass made me all glad and warm inside
That sounds cool. I'd probably play with that.
When you said the expansion was modules I didn't think it'd be that bad, it made me think of Merchants and Marauders. Alas, it seems they tried to take it too far with the whole KS tomfoolery.
'Rolling in like a katamari of axes' is an amazing simile dude!

I love the way you guys add the comedy into the explication
Oh sweet- King of Dragon Pass music!
In one of their other videos, they have an elevator music rendition of music from Super Mario Land.
Heads up. Some sweet mirrorlegs action at 7:56 and onwards.
I had trouble, at first, figuring out why the other person was on screen due to the perceived different clothing. Then I realized jean shorts are apparently still a thing.
You have to love the "prancing retreat". I couldn't help but think of the Ministry of Silly Walks.
Thanks. Now I want a King of Dragon’s Pass board game.
4:34 using the soundtrack from King of Dragon Pass I see. I can recognize that ost in my sleep.
That was some excellent prancing. XD

Good job!

Berserker comes from bärserk wich means bare shirt as in hes not wearing a shirt to show of his scars and muscles

I watched your play through with the CA guys. It looked pretty fun.
Quinns always says he loves expansions but I can't think of a single review where he reccomends the expansion
Root!
Thanks for the informative videos. You have given me many great ideas and suggestions for birthday presents for my sons over the last couple of years
King of Dragon Pass music! That music as you pranced down the street was from King of Dragon Pass!!! I love that game 😊

Always upvote the KODP soundtrack.
4:30 You have more vikings than last Sacred Time!
someday I hope to make it so big in the board gaming world, that quinns throws one of my expansions into the sea.

Prancing with King of Dragon pass theme. Nice touch.

The moment you made the noise at someone asking what module to use, the video stuttered. That made said noise WAY more hilarious.

The placement of that plant makes me irrationally anxious
Ah I thought it was Brighton when you ran down that street. :) New pad? Good video looks fun :)
Quinn’s box abuse goes to a new level in this vid
Funny, when you said, "ass backwards", my first thought was the difference between the English and American definitions of the word, "fanny". LoL

Beserker comes from the swedish verb bärsäkargång
'to go berserk'
Meaning
'to go "into a rage-fuled rampage"'
No, it doesn't.

The game has been on my radar for a while now. I may have to invest in this one.
king of dragon pass music 🎵🎵 love it

King of the Dragon Pass music FTW!
I love the game with 2 as well.
Agreed. Personally, I loved it with two.
Me too
Thanks man. Always looking for stuff that also plays well with two.
Lack of a food or drink recommendation in this review makes me unsure I could actually play this game.
lmao at the music from King of Dragon Pass
5:35 the blue guy gets yeeted outa there

Love this channel. Thanks for the review
That King of Dragon Pass music

Makin good use of the new Brighton place, I see!
Did I just hear King of Dragon Pass?
Did Viking ship 787 go down in the sea?
Great Review , direct to the point.
Which one do you recommend to buy out of the 4 in this series ?
I'm now starting to look at Vikings as sea Mongols.
