Etho! You can bookmark planets if you want to visit them again, you can also place things like furnaces and work benches IN your ship! You also have two hotbars, press x to switch inbetween them. You should use your matter manipulator almost always, the pickaxes are a temporary, though strong, alternative to it, once upgraded it's better than them.
The soil that you're growing your crops on must be wet for them to grow. The natural way the soil gets wet is through rain, but you can also use a watering can. When a crop is first planted, it goes through several "phases" before it's fully grown and harvestable. Each phase dries out the soil, so you must water it again.
Here's a few more tips for you etho: -the little button on the left side of your hotbar allows you to switch between two separate hotbars. -when you die you don't drop all your items, things like weapons and armor stay in your inventory. -you can move your inventory windows around the screen to make in easier to see while they are open. This can be very helpful when building. -More complicated foods give you good buffs, it's worth it to craft them. -If you walk further to the right of the outpost you will find the lady to continue the main quest line. -you can upgrade your crafting stations with items to enable more crafting recipes. You do this with the upgrade button at the top of the crafting stations crafting window. Love this series and I'm exited to see more!
So just a few tips for you: -PRESS X. You were running out of inventory space on your hotbar, but you actually have 12 slots, not 6. X toggles between two inventories with 6 slots each. -Go to your options and zoom out. It might make things more confusing, but at your current zoom level you aren't easily reaching your maximum potential when using a flashlight to look into caves or such. More importantly, some bosses (like Dreadwing) may mostly appear to be off screen due to the limited sight, making it super hard to fight them. -This might be a little cheaty, but holding alt reveals everything on your screen that you can interact with by pressing E (even hidden underground chests!) -The covering you made over your garden actually will prevent some of your plants from growing. As you said, the planet you are on rains a lot, and rain makes tilled soil wet, like the watering can. The roof will just stop some rain from getting in. -At the Outpost or on your ship, you can press the teleport button on the right toolbar to go back to your ship or down to your planet (respectively) instantly. Basically, you don't need to interact with a teleporter all the time to access these places.
Hey Etho! Quick Starbound tips to help ya out. 1. Press X to switch toolbars! Gasp! yes you get two. 2. Press Z to unweild your weapon/item. 3. When mining you can also mine the ores in the background! by right click with your pick/manipulator 4. When dual wielding weapons/items your character physically holds them in the respected hands. Using Left click for Left hand and Right click for right hand allows you to use. Notes: You weren't able to plant some of those seeds, due to the space needed for each seedling. Different breeds require different amounts of room. The outpost is the universe hub, quests, shops and meeting other players is its main purpose. The ruins are to the far right of the outpost, which is the main story-line quests. These are just some quick tips. Hope it helps, and Have fun exploring the universe. long time fan, - Mr.G
A few things: * You can hold shift to walk more slowly, thus being less likely to slip off cliffs. * You can mine ores in the background just as you can blocks (right click with matter manipulator). * I find that the best way to water crops is to aim the watering can right above your head, though I'm not sure if the blocks you have placed above your farming area will obstruct the water. * You can sell most cosmetic clothing items for 1000 pixels, so even if you come across clothing items you don't really want, you can sell them for quite a bit early to mid game.
Etho, some hints: - When you are asleep (zz status), you dont lose food - If you make a flag in the spinning wheel, put it and use it, you can teleport back to it, even if you move to another planet. - you can drag windows (inventory, etc) out of your way. - you have a second item bar you can access with "x" - crops only grow if they are wet. Every growth tick, the crop grows one stage, and the terrain under it goes dry. You must water it again for further growth. There are sprinklers later on. - Try to complete all the tech guy's side quests before continuing the story line. You will get double jump next.
Etho! How to get gas for the space ship: Buy a bunch from the gas station at the Ark place. Then fly to a moon. {But u have to have a epp back to breath there} Then u mine the purple crystals and it works for fuel REALLY well! But there is aliens u cant kill there. So just run from them. Oh and the more fuel u have in your inventory on the moon the more they chase u!
Just a few tips for etho or others: You can move tabs around the screen, they can be bothersome in default positions at times. Those lights in your space ship you can tear down and place else where if you want. (Seen some other people building around them when there's no need) Make sure you do those tech quests ASAP because the abilities you can unlock from them, give you so much more mobility as well as access to rooms, chests/loot-able sources, and hidden locations (*spoiler* bottom of the outpost meteor). You need fuel when traveling outside of your given solar system. The worlds you explore are looped (no edge like in Terraria), have a lava core which you cannot mine/pick up but are generally A LOT smaller then Terraria worlds. Like you said last video, looting is quite good for easy cash, especially in mission dungeons that you've already completed since you'll know the lay out and difficulty. When you die, you lose 30% of the money you currently have on you. That being said, later on in the game you can use a certain machine to compress your pixels into voxels which are safe to store away in chests since there is currently no banking system. If you issues with food, saving up some money for those hen eggs, and starting then abandoning farming quests(plant so and so seeds, return with produce) and keeping seeds for your personal farm, can really save you early game. Placing food in a refrigerator prolongs its lifespan indefinitely. I'd suggest farming potatoes, rice and eggs (from hens). Potatoes can last a very long time (like canned food) until cooked. Rice stacks and doesn't go bad in its uncooked state since its not considered food.
1.You can click and drag the various crafting and inventory windows to make it easier to see what you're doing 2.Also for every stage a plant grows, you need to make the soil wet, whether by can or water blocks. So if a plant grows, it uses up the water in the block and you need to re-wet it. 3. Dreadwing is not the first boss
I totally thought Old Lady Esther was going say " By your powers combined I am Captain Planet!!!" Lol!! The story was headed that way. That show was one of the best cartoons of the 90s, the last great decade. Loving the game so far, can't wait for the next ep!! Mr. Double Upload :-P.
Ores can be found in the background. Plants require watering. Make sure to grab some sand for glass. There's more quests to the right. Including the main story quest which you need to prepare your ship. Be careful of mining on moons. Keep your first sword, you can upgrade it in the end.
Loving the series so far! BTW, you can move the inventory and crafting windows around in case they get in the way And don't worry about leaving stuff on this planet. You can always fly back to it later, or even put down a teleporter somewhere on the surface which lets you get there even quicker :)
For some reason I can't get enough from this series maybe it's because I have 38 hours in starbound within 3 days but I could watch Etho play starbound for hours.
fighting dreadwing: get some sort of ranged weapon, start clearing west side, and the spikes. heal if needed with the tent. slowly make your way to to east side. when the health bar shows up, run to the west side border. there is a small hole you can crouch down into and is low enough to dodge slams if it does any. just shoot and move left and right alittle bit dodging bullets through out the "fight". if you have a staff, sniper rifle, pistol or something else that's ranged, you can end up killing it VERY fast regardless of what armour you have. wiki suggests you use titanium, but i did it with basic store bought armour.
An easy way to tell if a creature is hostile, other than it coming after you, is that if you hear a sound and they jump before they move. Also, with farming, you dont need to use the manipulator to harvest them, using the interact key will get them.
I have a some tips for you if you need them, and sorry in advance if it is a lot to read. ^_^ When trying to plant crops, make sure there is nothing directly above them (About 5 or 6 blocks), that includes the leaves of trees. When crops are fully grown hover over them and press E, it will harvest the crop. Also, remembering to water your crops is always a good idea, as they will not grow at all in dry soil. Pickaxes and Drills are useful, but you will want to get used to using the Matter Manipulator as it is the best mining tool in the game once you upgrade it. ^_^ The giant spinning capsules that you find randomly underground and on the surface have many effects: Regeneration smoke, poison, fire, bombs and more. Be wary of them as there is an element of randomness to them. :P You are also going to want to make armor before you do the first mission, as it is a little difficult until you get used to the style of combat in this game. I hope my tips prove useful to you, as I have just recently finished my playthrough of the game, and it gets so much more amazing the further you go. ^_^
Tip: Always carry a large amount of healing items and rope. Rope is very useful as it allows you to climb without having to place blocks. It also allows you to climb downwards safely.
Etho when you see new blocks (like that sand temple underground) you need to break them to learn crafting recipes, love your videos and keep up the great work
You can buy personal teleporters later, set up a house on the starter planet as well as all your equipment. Going to other planets introduce harder and more annoying/obnoxious monsters.
Man, I just realized how clever the bear miners are. The baby is called Dipper, as in the Little Dipper, as in the common name for the constellation Ursa Minor. Ursa means bear, and Minor is very close to miner.
1. the ores in the background you can mine by right clicking 2. if you dig the back ground and don't see rock you can beam up to ship 3. press x for 2nd hotbar
Etho a quick tip for you to not lose track of where your house is. you can make a "Novakid Flag" hit "C" to craft it, it requires 1 copper bar and 20 cloth fabric, it will create a bookmark on your ship teleport :)
Was happy you got to the penguins :). Keep doing the quests for the guy that had you do the dash course, you will like the results. Also, just like in minecraft you can use the number keys to select tools in your hotbar, though if you have the habit of scrolling from minecraft, that can be difficult.
great video etho! Etho with the spinning wheel you can craft dye and dye with a right click on your clothes clothes. Also i think you should keep that flower on the the entire series.
Ah, poor naive Etho. Still doesn't know just how many things have changed since the early days of Starbound. Can't wait until he starts mining at a moon.
Etho, some advice, you can click the N button and use the scanner as a flashlight since it doesn't take up any inventory space, also later in the game you can get the 3D printer, and to print things, you have to scan them with the scanner, which you access by pressing N.
tl;dr A list of useful information for Etho or anyone else playing Starbound. I made this as I watched so you might've figured some of them out. *You need to water crops for them to grow. If you're lazy, then just wait for it to rain and make sure there are no blocks above the crops.* *Buy some fluffalo's. If you get ten of each of their elemental drops, you can trade them for a bow with seven types of ammo. Four are elemental, one is regular wood, and the last two move things.* *Press E to interact with the flowers and crops. It picks them both and it leaves crops alone that aren't ready yet.* If you want grass to grow somewhere you'll have to hoe and water the ground and then throw grass seeds at it. If you hold ctrl and move the mouse, the camera moves too. You were already told this by a Hylotl on the tutorial planet. Press x to access your second hotbar. You could put your blocks there so that you have a fighting hotbar and a building hotbar. Hold shift to build or break one block at a time with the Matter Manipulator. *Food can rot and you chose the game mode that lets you starve to death. When you get Tungsten, the first thing you're going to want to make is a mini fridge. You make it at a crafting table and you need a static cell to craft it, so buy an electric fluffalo before any of the other fluffalo's.* Your scanner tool can be used as a two-handed flashlight. I read on a different TH-cam comment that it's wider and brighter than a flashlight too, so you could use that and free up an inventory slot.
Etho, you have a 2nd hotbar, hit x or click the squares in the top left of the hotbar. You can also move your inventory windows like internet tabs by dragging them, makes it easier to place without equipping. Like so he can see!
+EthosLab, I'd like to thank you for reading the text and describing what you're doing. I've tried watching others play similar games but they don't tell what they're doing for those with not so great of vision. I've really enjoyed watching you for the last couple years since finding you.
i love how he actually edit his videos. I think a lot of minecrafters dont edit there videos and it makes there commentatys very weak. He edits out the boring parts and parts weve already seen. Keep up the good work!
You can also just press 'N' to open your scanner which comes with a flashlight, no need to waste inventory :D also, you can make a 'Novakid Flag' (or any race you're apart of) from 1 copper and 20 woven fabric, and you can set these as a warp in point from you teleporter that you can always teleport to even if you're not in the same solar system. edit: also if you want stuff like the Outpost fridge (or any decorative block) you can get your scanner (N key) scan the fridge and when you get a pixel printer you can print one out. Useful because your food spoils if you don't put it in a fridge.
Etho I recommend that you relate the ship first as it allows you to get better stuff so you nead to take a quest on the far right side of town, you'll know who it is as he has penguins working for him
You should probably watch again, he did water his plants.
I did, and I edited it. How did you know I wrote that?
i was actually referring to the commen between our two, guess whoever wrote it deleted it :-D WTF? wheres my first comment now? O_o
It's still there for me.
Flags that are placed may be teleport-ed to at any time, and the relatively cheap.
The soil that you're growing your crops on must be wet for them to grow. The natural way the soil gets wet is through rain, but you can also use a watering can. When a crop is first planted, it goes through several "phases" before it's fully grown and harvestable. Each phase dries out the soil, so you must water it again.
Also, don't cover your crops until you get up to sprinklers so that the rain can get onto the ground under them.
Lolol XD
Esther: *Finishes explaining universe ending things* I would like your help.
Etho: I would like your chair.
I love your priorities Etho! XD
Here's a few more tips for you etho:
-the little button on the left side of your hotbar allows you to switch between two separate hotbars.
-when you die you don't drop all your items, things like weapons and armor stay in your inventory.
-you can move your inventory windows around the screen to make in easier to see while they are open. This can be very helpful when building.

-you can upgrade your crafting stations with items to enable more crafting recipes. You do this with the upgrade button at the top of the crafting stations crafting window.
Love this series and I'm exited to see more!
30:47 "I would like your help"
"I would like your chair"
Classic Etho; the universe is in peril and he wants a cool floating chair
Loving the uploads lately keep up the good work Etho :)
Yes
Yep
Ya
just dont turn into a daily youtuber etho
YAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSS
Reminder in case you didn't see it last time: *HOLD ON TO THE BROKEN BROADSWORD!!!* You'll want it at the end of the game.

Not all monsters are random. There are LOTS of them that you will see over and over throughout playthroughs and planets. Like those tiny grey things.
lol I actually thought that there was a fly on my screen lol
Etho the type of guy to cover his plants from the rain lol
"Penguin Truck Stop" sounds like a really cool game title...
XD
Exactly
So does 'Big Rigs; Over the Road Racing' as well, but we all know how that game turned out.
:3 it does
+A Cow Big Rigs so over the road, they can accelerate while going up a 90° angled slope. BACKWARDS.
"HA penguin with a blow torch" - Etho 2k16

Oh Etho, you never disappoint me. Lmao XD
Don't throw away your starter sword you can use it later!
the future use is nice
with what?
An end game quest lets you upgrade it to something amazing
i think what it becomes could be considered the best thing of its type (trying to say nothing that is too much of a spoiler)
+mr skeltal this comment is dumb on too many levels
Etho, some hints:
- When you are asleep (zz status), you dont lose food

You don't need gas to fly within the same system, so Etho can skip your first step.
True
Etho logic: crops which need rain and sunshine to survive and thrive? Let's cover them up to protect them! XD
I was about to go watch Netflix then I saw this in my subscriptions and I was like HELL NO, WE WATCHING ETHO TONIGHT BOYS
You know you a good youtuber when a sub decides to watch you not Netflix.
Ikr! I just can't wait for episode 3.
Just a few tips for etho or others:
You can move tabs around the screen, they can be bothersome in default positions at times. Those lights in your space ship you can tear down and place else where if you want. (Seen some other people building around them when there's no need)
Make sure you do those tech quests ASAP because the abilities you can unlock from them, give you so much more mobility as well as access to rooms, chests/loot-able sources, and hidden locations (*spoiler* bottom of the outpost meteor).
Etho, press X. It shows your SECOND hotbar!
1.You can click and drag the various crafting and inventory windows to make it easier to see what you're doing
2.Also for every stage a plant grows, you need to make the soil wet, whether by can or water blocks.
Etho!!
Dont forget you can (you should) mine the ores on the background!
To do so, hold right mouse button with any mining tool.
+danieltan38 Exactly *high-five*
.O/
Do they have vein miner? :)
Ores can be found in the background. Plants require watering. Make sure to grab some sand for glass. There's more quests to the right. Including the main story quest which you need to prepare your ship. Be careful of mining on moons. Keep your first sword, you can upgrade it in the end.
The penguin boss is like three armor tiers above yours.
I wish I had short term memory so I could always rewatch Etho's videos!
This video is so relaxing. Etho's voice perfectly matches with the sound tracks of the game.
1080p at 60fps...
I remember when Etho used to upload in 480p.
Loving the series so far!
BTW, you can move the inventory and crafting windows around in case they get in the way
And don't worry about leaving stuff on this planet. You can always fly back to it later, or even put down a teleporter somewhere on the surface which lets you get there even quicker :)
BUILD THE PENGUIN AUTOSHOP IN YOUR STEAMPUNK/DIESELPUNK CITY IN YOUR MODDED SERIES!!! Please?
Great idea! Consider it done.

This is the first series I've seen by etho besides his etho plays minecraft series and I'm really digging it!
"I would like your help" - "I want your chair..."
Thanks for the years of entertainment man, still pumping out great content!
Just started to watch the video, but you can use the scanner (press N) as a flashlight too. That way you don't have to take up an extra hotbar slot.
An easy way to tell if a creature is hostile, other than it coming after you, is that if you hear a sound and they jump before they move. Also, with farming, you dont need to use the manipulator to harvest them, using the interact key will get them.
I love this series! Seriously all of your content right now is fantastic!
Keep this series going! It's my favorite series right now!
I have a some tips for you if you need them, and sorry in advance if it is a lot to read. ^_^
When trying to plant crops, make sure there is nothing directly above them (About 5 or 6 blocks), that includes the leaves of trees.
The giant spinning capsules that you find randomly underground and on the surface have many effects: Regeneration smoke, poison, fire, bombs and more. Be wary of them as there is an element of randomness to them. :P
You are also going to want to make armor before you do the first mission, as it is a little difficult until you get used to the style of combat in this game. I hope my tips prove useful to you, as I have just recently finished my playthrough of the game, and it gets so much more amazing the further you go. ^_^
"Its a Penguin with a blowtorch!" Made my day Etho, thanks. Keep up the good work man!!
Tip: Always carry a large amount of healing items and rope. Rope is very useful as it allows you to climb without having to place blocks. It also allows you to climb downwards safely.
loving the series so far Etho
1:51 i loved the startrek reference!
I literally just bought this game right before you started this LP, so now I can watch you stumble over the hurdles I just passed :)
"I would like your help."
Etho - "I woukld like your chair."
Etho, always the swindler haha
Loving all the videos you put out lately Etho, such high quality, much Wow
Etho: "I wish I had a toboggan to slide down these hills", that is so Canadian
Etho when you see new blocks (like that sand temple underground) you need to break them to learn crafting recipes, love your videos and keep up the great work
Man, the Music in this game is BEAUTIFUL!
You can buy personal teleporters later, set up a house on the starter planet as well as all your equipment.
Going to other planets introduce harder and more annoying/obnoxious monsters.
If you press Alt, it will highlight all that you can interact with.
You can only interact with crops if they are fully grown and ready for harvesting.
Etho press the left alt key to highlight things you can interact with, makes spotting chests underground way easier
I had the ultimate facepalm when he beamed back without looking to the right more.
0:00-0:02 let's remember all those seconds of silence for the fallen stars
Man, I just realized how clever the bear miners are. The baby is called Dipper, as in the Little Dipper, as in the common name for the constellation Ursa Minor. Ursa means bear, and Minor is very close to miner.
"The universe is ending at the slimy tentacles of an ancient death monster! We need your help!"
...
I want your chair.
You can set this planet as your home and beam to it from anywhere also you can wear armour and cosmetic items, so you can be protected and stylish!
1. the ores in the background you can mine by right clicking
2. if you dig the back ground and don't see rock you can beam up to ship
3. press x for 2nd hotbar
Epic music and deep scene occurs
Etho: "I would like your chair."
Etho a quick tip for you to not lose track of where your house is.
you can make a "Novakid Flag" hit "C" to craft it, it requires 1 copper bar and 20 cloth fabric, it will create a bookmark on your ship teleport :)
3:01 Did anyone else thing he said moms, Which would make the sentence "OH! I wonder if you can make moms with that" - Etho 2016
Nothing better than two videos in a day and one is 30 minutes while the other is 25.
Don't Starve!
This reminds me of Don't Starve,
I would love to see it from you. But I enjoy Starbound as much as the next guy! Thank you Etho.
Ah, poor naive Etho. Still doesn't know just how many things have changed since the early days of Starbound.
Can't wait until he starts mining at a moon.
I'm so glad you're playing this series, Etho! I like your MC series, but I'm excited to watch an Etho series that's in a new game. Woohoo!
Etho, some advice, you can click the N button and use the scanner as a flashlight since it doesn't take up any inventory space, also later in the game you can get the 3D printer, and to print things, you have to scan them with the scanner, which you access by pressing N.
Also, it only gives a flashlight once you talk to Esther (floaty chair lady) and get the scanning quest
tl;dr A list of useful information for Etho or anyone else playing Starbound.
I made this as I watched so you might've figured some of them out.
*You need to water crops for them to grow. If you're lazy, then just wait for it to rain and make sure there are no blocks above the crops.*
*Buy some fluffalo's. If you get ten of each of their elemental drops, you can trade them for a bow with seven types of ammo. Four are elemental, one is regular wood, and the last two move things.*
*Press E to interact with the flowers and crops. It picks them both and it leaves crops alone that aren't ready yet.*
If you want grass to grow somewhere you'll have to hoe and water the ground and then throw grass seeds at it.
You make it at a crafting table and you need a static cell to craft it, so buy an electric fluffalo before any of the other fluffalo's.*
Your scanner tool can be used as a two-handed flashlight. I read on a different TH-cam comment that it's wider and brighter than a flashlight too, so you could use that and free up an inventory slot.
You have the HUGE job to help protect the universe, and all you want is a chair...
That's persistence for ya
Etho is so cool to watch he makes me so happy
Chair Lady: We need ur help Etho!
Etho: So, can I have your chair of I help?
"Beam us Down, Scotty!" xD
Etho, you have a 2nd hotbar, hit x or click the squares in the top left of the hotbar. You can also move your inventory windows like internet tabs by dragging them, makes it easier to place without equipping. Like so he can see!
You can get the ores from the background as well, right click with your pick/manipulator.
ETHO, JUST KEEP THESE VIDEOS LENGTHY. WE ALL LIKE IT THAT WAY.
"Ursa Miner" "Little Dipper" "Teddy Bear" "Beakeasy" man I can't endure so many puns
Amazing! I had a lot of fun giving Esther an old wise lady voice.
Edit: Also ha! The "Beak Easy", the only speakeasy maintained by penguins, I bet.
"I want your help" "I want your chair!" etho is becoming zisteau confirmed
etho i love seeing you play this game again! i hope you are enjoying playing it as much as we love watching it. keep up the great work man :)
Loved the chair obsession at the end :D
Thank you Etho for being the best youtuber I have ever watched!
Keep up the good work!
you know I am actually taking a like to this game and Etho's playthrough of it. it interests me, and Etho is my favorite entertainer :D
Why would someone ever EVER dislike Ethos videos!!
dislike Notting :/
He misclicked
+e20in00 ya
now people are going to specifically dislike cos of this...
+Remorsing Puppet Or they just didn't like the damn video. Jeez.
I personally like seeing the mining aspect in this game. It is a decently big part of the game.
Here's a tip - if you press X, you can switch between two different hot bars. It gives you a lot more space
You can also just press 'N' to open your scanner which comes with a flashlight, no need to waste inventory :D
also, you can make a 'Novakid Flag' (or any race you're apart of) from 1 copper and 20 woven fabric, and you can set these as a warp in point from you teleporter that you can always teleport to even if you're not in the same solar system.
edit: also if you want stuff like the Outpost fridge (or any decorative block) you can get your scanner (N key) scan the fridge and when you get a pixel printer you can print one out. Useful because your food spoils if you don't put it in a fridge.
Etho the magnifying glass works as a flash light. It also let's you "scan" things and find out information about it.
Loving all your new videos Etho! Keep it up and can't wait to see the next episode of Starbound :) Your editing on this is amazing.
If you go into your options you can change the "map zoom." You might want to do 2x to see more.
Etho I recommend that you relate the ship first as it allows you to get better stuff so you nead to take a quest on the far right side of town, you'll know who it is as he has penguins working for him
Really cool series I'm enjoying a lot. Hope for more episodes!!!
Loving the series so far! Can't wait for the next episode! :D
Every time Etho starts saying "manipulator" I expect "minicio" to come XD
A tip: put all your crafting stuff (furnace, forging table etc.) in your ship. That way you always have it with you :)
