If you've been experiencing issues with your player not reading CDs or skipping tracks, it's likely that the laser has gone bad. Fortunately, replacing it is a relatively straightforward process that you can do yourself with a few basic tools.
First, I'll walk you through the process of opening up your CDJ-500s to access the laser. I'll show you the different components of the player and point out where you need to be careful to avoid damaging anything.
Next, I'll demonstrate how to remove the old laser and install the new one. I'll go over the different parts of the laser assembly and show you how to disconnect and reconnect the wiring.

Regarding the laser: DWY-1067 can be replaced without a problem with DWY-1069 (i think that's just a newer revision since all SMD components are the same).

Hi MTS thanks for the video it has given me an idea, of what to do. I have a 500S in very good condition but it has not been used for nearly 15 years, it was stored in a closet. I am having problems with the audio, it plays but it constantly skips a few seconds all the time. I suppose it can be the lens....but i have checked it and its extremely clean. Regards from Mallorca.

@@MTS_IT My cdjs are from 2001 and have been through all kinds of shenanigans from indoor parties to forest raves and festivals. About 15 years ago I took my cdj to a repair shop, if I remeber correctly they charged over 200€ to change the laser. It is still working though, now I have to change the other one if I can find the part.
