Such a rad video Brother Rat!! Sometimes the struggle is real!! You were getting it pretty good by the end of that video! Keep pushing and you'll be a curb monster in no time!! You always inspire me! No I'm going to have to make sure I learn something new Sunday!! LOL!! Keep tearing it up Brother!! 🤘🛹🛹🤘
noice choice of parts! I can't justify buying a full set of slappy gear, but if I wasn't already finding it tough to maintain my street and park setup, I would get something similar. I'm not a slappy god by any means, but it seems to me you are treating it a bit like a wallride up rather than a slappy. You aren't carving nearly as much as you need, when you actually want to almost get into a 2 wheel manual as you hit the curb. The approach angle is a bit tricky and feels wrong at first, but I find it easier to almost be going too straight into it at about 5 feet away. Then you just max out your trucks' turn without wheelbiting, extending your legs to slightly lighten both feet. Seems to me you are right there! shred on brother
@@burger1113 thank you so much man that's super helpful! I can't wait to get back to that curb and give it a try! And yeah I'm totally stoked on the setup I only paid 100 bucks for the whole thing! Couldn't pass it up 🛹🐀
Stop lifting your front truck off the ground. Your back foot should not be on the tail at all but on the pocket so that you don’t press on the tail . Front foot placed right before the front bolts . Toes slightly hanging off the edge . Approach with a decent amount of speed at a 45 degree angle. Lean heavy toe side like you are going to ride on 2 wheels . Do a hip thrust into the curb like you are bumping someone standing next to you, this will make you shift your weight away from the front truck to lighten it up and climb the curb.
Agree! Don’t lift, go fast and straight at the curb, weight to the toe side as you de-weight and carve/thrust up the curb. Getting your shoulders parallel to the curb. That’s pretty key. If you keep your front shoulder open your either gonna get in accidental feeble or just your back truck won’t get on. I also find it helps to visualize both trucks on top of the curb right as I carve onto it. Only thing I disagree with is hanging the toes slightly off. But we all have our preferences.
Go get some clear spray paint and hit the curb with it, then wax it. If there's wax on the curb take a scraper or griptape and get the wax off the curb before you spray paint it. I think that curbs been too grind down or it's just not waxed or salba sauced. Trust me you wan that curb icy slick it helps quite a bit. You got that though, just give it many many tries and it starts to make sense. Also parking blocks are gold for learning these.
Love the video! 36 year old who just learned slappys in the last year or so. It looks like you're coming in at too much of an angle, but I think it's better to go almost straight at it and do a massive toe side carve motion. I also found it a lot less intimidating to learn on a single sided curb because I didn't have to worry as much about my front truck going over and slipping into boardslide. Hope that helps! Subscribed.
That's some great advice! I noticed when I did go at it straighter and come at it more like a carve I had more control so I'll definitely go for that next time! Thanks for the advice! Welcome to the pack! 🛹🐀
That's what I hear but I can't imagine! I mean, I guess I can cuz when I Ollie onto a 5050 I lock in no problem. Same on mini ramp fs 5050 is always easy. Ugh I hope I get there 😂
I would say back 50s are heel heavy and that's important to riding out your slappys cause it'll pinch you back out to quick otherwise! Great video man, keep it up 👆
Could it be that the curb is cracked? Something i recommend is to use painted Curb at first and then slowly as you get better, you can go to more crustier spots. And your tip is also very helpful too!
Turned 30 and started skating going on 32 it’s rad seeing some else learning and not just a video of wins. 🤘🏻I wanna try slappys but haven’t found a curb yet
@@DonkeyWalloper haha man I went to war with myself about that one for about an hour and decided it was more about the curb on the sticker than the actual trucks. I knew better and I am ashamed 😔 haha
Yea man good job, parking lot curbs are the best for slappys in my opinion instead of parking blocks and a big thing about slappys is you want to have super loose trucks
I've skated my trucks crazy tight my whole life so going loose is a real challenge. I've got them looser now than I ever imagined but I'm definitely going to go a little further 💪😤
The main reasons why it’s been such a struggle for you is that you’re still using your tail as the leverage point and you are not staying committed to the toeside lean until the curb stands you up. When learning these it helps to take your foot off of your tail completely and have the edge of your front foot barely touching the slope of your nose. Keep at it bro!
Definitely don’t want to lift the front truck up to the curb. And definitely I suggest you not ride a wide stance with the front foot far on the nose. It’s a sharp turn, unweighting and scooping that gets you up the curb. Your curb is a bit tall, BUT the face has a generous slope, which will help you, I have FS and BS “revised” slappy tips on my page if you’re still having a hard time
It's crazy that you're doing an egg video because I'm also trying my first egg. I picked up a 9.125 Krooked Gonz egg! And that's what I've been skating the last couple weeks. 🛹🤘🤘🛹
I'm digging it so far. It has a different flick and like scoop to it but I feel like it has really good control. But it's hard to look down and get used to seeing an egg! Lol!!🤘🛹🛹🤘
