The homies and I were street skating in Charlotte NC recently and as we were packing up our gear to head to the first spot, Tom pulled in next to us randomly! We were so confused and star struck but he was such a genuine kind dude and hung with us for a little while he waited for whatever he was there to do. It’s always good meeting one of your favorite skaters and they are exactly how you thought they would be, and he told us we looked so cool skating and filming eachother and it meant so much to us, keep up the awesome work Tom!
The BEST most original works of art are done by teams of people with varied talents that need each other. Tom and Matt are the Coen Brothers of skating. Humble fearless, talented, skilled. Thanks to The Nine Club, New Balance and Thrasher for seeing value in these guys.
Awesome to hear all the craziness that people have to go to to manicure a spot so that they can get a clip! Truly a treat to have these wonderful guests on to share their adventures and experience with us. Thank you to the 9 club for being so awesome. Please continue to make this stuff so that we can watch it for the rest of our lives.
I love skateboarding that someone like Tom's unique personality is fully appreciated. when he was receiving the gifts, I was cracking up. first time in nine club history that someone was apprehensive, but in the most respectful way. like the only way he knows how to be is honest.
Not only is he an amazing skater, but he’s such an incredible person. I got the pleasure of hanging out backstage for Dew Tour a few years back, and he was so nice to everyone. Him and Felipe flipping each other shit was also hysterical.
So glad you guys got tom & Matt on for this. Funny interview and so dope to find out more about museum part. So rad. Energy in this room was a fun one!! 👌🏻👌🏻
Human Light ah la the basin of California, Love the nine club, love all the hosts, and work on the show, been a long time fan, second time supporting, thanks for bring such stories out of these what would be 2 dimensional skate family members, always good to feel the skate human Light flowing flat across the basin in California. ❤
i get it. i remember starting to skate at 11 years old and just looking at every curb and manny pad i could find. then in high school, i was scouting every rail, stair set and gap i could find. when i was 40 years old i stopped looking up and looked down again. my same old, tired, local spots suddenly looked different again. got some bolt cutters, hedge trimmers and a shovel only to find new ditches, curbs and some questionably, possible trespassing spots. helped me remember why i loved skateboarding in the first place and kept me hyped again. and in those transiton years i also invented sewer luging. and built a protoype rig to ride all those skinny rain ditches u see on the hill sides of california. let's luge baby!!
i remember skating with all them. we were gonna go to a spot and trent wanted to come with. i remember taylor and trevor told trent to stay home and skate the box until we got back 😭
Tom climbing a pole to sneak into the principal's private office bathroom sounds like something out of a John Hughes movie haha. When life imitates art!
Josh Beagle was mentioned! early 90's he was my favorite skateboarder i cut photos fron his interview and hung them on my wall Jaime Espinosa said when he seen "josh beagle blows"
Franklin Park, Illinois has a 5 stair crusty rail that I call the smallest handrail of all time cuz it's normal height at the top but at the bottom it's like slightly above knee height. Behind the factory at 25th & Armitage, silver creek runs by it
tom and matt don't worry. they'll prolly drop u in downtown chicago and there are plenty of spots and inspiration to be had. if u all stayed for a month longer, then u could enjoy the endless spots in the suburbs. and there are many!! i spent many high school and college years just scoping spots and mapping the metropolis. u know those moments when ur just driving toward a dead end on the side of a highway and ur spidey sense starts tingling? just effing trust it!!
I would dig on seeing new skate videos with songs from videos of the 80’s. Those songs were sick and a lot of skaters today don’t know that stuff. It would obviously just be paying homage to the classics. H-Street videos alone were a total vibe with the music in those videos. Sub Society was rad band…and others.
Love this episode, love Tom. I will say that I have met Jamie Thomas twice in my life and he was the coolest most down to earth person (even remembered who I was the second time which was insane). Wanted to echo what Tom was saying that he’s such a cool guy
Shigeyoshi Kakitani would feed all the young guys at in & out Shige would scoop them up at occ when they get out of costamesa high andy lowie sometimes go to mcclungs i would feel bad sometimes because i was almost 30 lol
If a school is closed the cameras will alert the police if someone breaks in.. so I'm surprised the cops didn't instantly turn around and arrest them lol
Tom would bring a pillow when he spent the night at the famous Japanese Mexico apartment he was like 14? i would make sure it didn't get to crazy for the yougsters but alvaro lost his virginity to one of the Japanese girls lol
