Funny that happened to me when epoxy the kitchen counter found a tiny fly fused to counter. Next day. I named him Bob and he is the eternal guardian of the kitchen
This is one of the most informative videos I've ever watched! It truly gave me confidence and motivation to finally do what I've wanted to do for a long time now. Thank you
One of the best videos I've seen on your product.Thank you! One tip to others wrapped up in two words, "DOG/CAT HAIR"! I've just completed my fiberglass shower basin and looking forward to the pour on for the bath tub in the other bath. You mention cleaning in all the videos but as a dog owner (she doesn't shed much either), I have to add that it is imperative for the dyi'ers to entirely clean, vacuum, mop ALL surfaces in the work room AND adjacent room, keep doors closed and vents for the work room sealed (may present some temperature challenges). It is AMAZING how much dog and possibly human hair follicles float in the air and still get into the room. It was full time challenge on the first coat to pick out the dog hairs, i bettered it significantly for the second coat to an acceptable(but not perfect) level. With the LONG dry times this material needs dog hairs floating in the air for 3 to 24 hours is definitely a factor to pay attention to for your final product. I believe there was some human hair shedding also and will get one of those $20 Tyvex suits before I do the pour on refinishing for the bath tub.
The extra strength acidic toilet cleaner has the same amount of acid as traditional etching cleaners. It is very important that the surface be as clean as possible. This is a hybrid epoxy material and will stick perfectly to the clean dry surface.
Thank you for this video! I’ve watched it three times and ordered this product today. Our handyman Is finishing the new tile will be finished tomorrow in our “ugly bathroom” because I was not up to trying tiling walls. I was honestly very nervous about tackling this project until your video, so thank you! (I’m actually using my husband’s TH-cam account lol, I’m the house project person in our family) I can’t thank you enough!
Just got through using your product and have to say it was very user friendly and I'm so happy I brought it. I spent a lot of time watching each video ahead of the project. The guy in the video tutorial does a great commentary and the video is excellent. I wish I could say I stayed as clean as he did! Within 3 minutes my gloves were dripping and I had Ekopel everywhere, but that's just me, I was also using a smaller cup, the larger one would have been better, my fault. Luckily I had lots of paper on the floor and paper towels close by. My house was a rental before we brought it and someone must have 'cleaned' the tub with acid as it had no glaze. My daughter dyes her hair blue and every time she does, the dye stains the tub too. Now she's moved out I decided to refinish it. If you are reading this and trying to decide if you want to undertake this project yourself I'd definitely recommend using this product. If you have the money to spare perhaps hire a professional to do it but ask them to use this product. Yes, it's a daunting project but watch the videos carefully, lots of good hints and tips. Ladies, wear a tightish shirt so it doesn't get into the paint on the side of the tub and tie your hair back. I would say it would have been easier if I was just a little taller (I'm 5'4") and had slightly longer arms to get the reach over. I did see an updated video using a foam roller which I think would have helped me reach the back side of the tub. Yes, it is a strain on your back but when you eventually manage to stand up straight again and admire your handy work you'll forget about you back! It's well worth the money. I'd say I spent about 2 1/2 hours all in all, and spread my project out. One afternoon scraping the silicone that some clever person put over the existing grout, and then washing the tub with the Lysol. I then masked and painted the next day. Just waiting for it to cure now and hoping the dripping faucet doesn't over flow my baggie. I didn't realize how much it was dripping but did see a fix in the comments if I have a baggie fail! So far I have a fantastic looking tub, and a new found confidence in my DIY skills. Thanks Refinished bath solutions.
Thank you for sharing your experience, reading your comment is encouraging me to take on this project myself. By the way is it still holding up? could you please update before I put my energy in it . thank you and Happy New Year :)
Thanks for the video. Please know, it would be very nice to show mixing the material to be sure we are truly following step-by-step. Plus this helps trust with great guys like u for customers who've been so burned. Thanks for the video.
Guess I could retire my expensive spray equipment , sanders and respirator and just use a solo cup and putty spreader..love to see you actually do full tub shower combo
First time I ever saw someone use a body filler applicator to put tub paint on. I always saw guys use a sprayer. But hey if it works! It works! Learn something new everyday! Thanks!
Yeah,...I hope the bathroom is going to be remodeled . That beautiful tub job and the mismatched tile colors plus the calk job makes this tub look like a purse in a Sows ear when compared to the rest of the rooms work . The design of the heating system goes back to the late forties Looked like it had 9 layers of paint on it . I should know I had the same heaters and the only way I could remodel them was to remove them from the system and torch the paint off till I was down to the primer . Even the floor tile was mismatched .
@@bigdealdoughnutz .. Haha; I don't live in a hut. I deal mostly with my tenants and I've had my handyman replace bath tubs instead. They're not that expensive.
This REALLY needs to be done on my bathtub. I've lived here 22 years and I don't want to leave because it's rent controlled, but it's getting real rusty by the drain and has a few chips.
Really nice job! Great technique to get a perfect even finish. Damp towels to clean the drain and floor edges but other than that it's perfectly done. I don't think I could do it that well.
I installed new floors, because the toilet had to go in. Tiling took longer than expected and its done now - i need to resurface the tub. Im a little worried about that material that drilled on the floor, how easy is that toget off of LifeProof flooring?
Very thorough demonstrations. Thank you. Several years ago we had a "professional" tub refinishing person paint our tub and it has been nothing but trouble ever since. The paint, or whatever it was, peeled off across the front in large pieces. The bottom became a mess as well. I'm sure he didn't properly pre-etch the tub. We wound up taking him to small claims court (and won). I was getting ready to replace the whole darn tub, but I may give this system a try instead.
We ran a spray refinishing business for years and encountered a lot of the same issues. Between that and the chemicals we knew there had to be a better way. This material is way stronger. Once we started working with it we sold off all of our spray equipment and if we do an install this is the only product we use.
This happens a lot in this business I see so many tubs that other people have tried to re-glaze and the job fails due to improper prepping. Prep work I have found is the key to a lasting coating. Cleaning- Etching -and even sanding is needed before the coating is applied or it will fail quickly. I have found that if prep is done correctly most any epoxy will last for 5-8 years , but this Ekopel stuff is top of the line, if prepped right this coating easily lasts 20 years and i'm sure it goes even beyond that...I'M SOLD!
Damn dude. You wear your apple watch to mess with epoxies your braver than me. My watch catches hell thats why I just wear a cheap Casio solar. Its got paint drywall mudd and epoxies all in the buttons. Luckily it automatically sets its own time from radio waves cause none of the buttons are free anymore lol
You an either leave the grout and pour ekopel over it and when dry re-grout it. Or you could use car bondo to level it our and then sand smooth and then use the ekopel over that. Both would work fine.
I really want to like it but I can't imagine (Myself) not making a total mess. Although I think the final product looks amazing I just don't like the process. Anyway, nice job as always.
Very cool! This is the second video I watched you do and I am now contemplating trying it. One question , Did you neaten up the line that you were wiping with a paper towel between the tub to the floor? My ocd had me twitching at the messy edge lol.
Did you have to first sand the tub and tile with 400 grit paper with using this kopek brand ?? You said nothing about using some type of paint primer before using your kopek product. Does this kopek product need a primer ?? How much does this thicker kopek product cost ? And where do you buy it locally ?
I used the Ekopel three days ago and the bath tub came out beautiful. Can I use whats left over in the can on another tub after its been sitting for a few days?
Yes you can, just make sure there is no flex. Meaning when you step down or push on the walls they move that is a flex that would need to be fixed with expanding foam.
Great vid step by step great job Put a little piece of clear tape of you watch and you don’t have to worry about it What would I have to do to my clawfoot tub to prep it I put the rest oleum tub refinisher on it will that I’ll have to come off
Yes it will you would just need to sand it smooth with 400 grit sandpaper give the tub a deep clean and you can use the primer for a better stick but the primer is optional.
@@RefinishedBathSolutions Sorry for the questions Sir. I have 1 more. Someone painted this old sink sometime in the past . Do I need to sand all the old paint off or can I sand the places where the paint is at smooth and the product stick good in those spots ?
Can you use this product on a kitchen sink and if so what would you use to clean sink with after use? How easy will this finish stain with coffee or juice ?
Any cracks, chips, dents, or holes can be filled with car bondo first then sanded smooth to the touch with 220-320 grit sandpaper. Then you can coat with ekopel.
I’m remodeling an old trailer house on a budget and I have a tub and surround I want to do. Beings trailer house the tub is a 55” instead of 60” and not very deep so I’m praying my kit has enough for walls. My question is how crucial getting all of the silicone off is? Depends on how much material is left over we don't recommend streching the material if its applied to thin it will cause yellowing and streaking but we do have sink kits.
sand affected area smooth to the touch with 220-320 grit sandpaper then make sure its smooth to the touch or when you re-pour it could mirror the affected area. Then use our pour on touch up kit to fix, its the same material just a smaller amount. Pour over affected area then push excess around with foam roller
To prep your tub: Peel up what you can of the old paint then sand the rest smooth with 400 grit sandpaper. Next give the tub a deep clean using Lysol power. You'll want to get the room temp up to 70-75 degrees. Then you will be ready for you ekopel application.
Can I do my entire shower walls and bottom tray at the same time or does it have to be applied only just the sides first. Let it dry. Then do the bottom tray of the shower? In the videos I’ve watched it’s always either just the wall or just the tubs. Thanks!
You can do both! If your doing a shower unit I would recommend mixing up 1 can pouring it on the walls then mix the second can and pour that onto the bathtub. You will want to work fast when you do this so it will also self level nicely.
hi, will it work on a previously refinished bathtub that some area of the bathtub are peel off (I do not know what product it had been used). Thank you.
Yes I would recommend peeling up what you can first then sand the rest smooth to the touch with 220-320 grit sandpaper. As long as it's smooth to the touch it won't mirror the affected area. Can fill any uneven areas, cracks, chips, holes, or dents with car bondo then sand smooth
Need to do mine! Did not see what prep work you did before apply the product. And where is the product sold? Live in California. Tub is cast/ porcelain from 1942 nice tub hate to lose it in a remodel. Wife wants it gone or fixed!
You can purchase our products online from our website or Amazon. This is the link to our website is below. refinishedbathsolutions.com/ It will make your tub look brand new again! $400-800 depending on location. Yes, follow our prep videos.

Any cracks, chips, dents, or holes can be filled with car bondo first then sanded smooth to the touch with 220-320 grit sandpaper. Then you can coat with ekopel.

Yes, its important prep to get all silicone off as ekopel will not stick over silicone.

I wonder how long this retub should last ?
You did a great job describing clearly the workflow.
Questions, did u/ can you leave the drain in place?
If you remove the drain, can you leave the tape in place until the material sets up completely and then remove the tape and the pooled material?

I have only one tub. How long is the curing before actually using? Thank you for the lesson.
pua edwards we wait 36 hours normally to be safe.
Can you use the extra to do a small sink?
Depends on how much material is left over we don't recommend streching the material if its applied to thin it will cause yellowing and streaking but we do have sink kits.
what is the benefit of pouring the material on compared to painting on with a roller or other applicator? thanks!
If you roll it on it won't be thick enough. If it isn't thick enough then it can cause yellowing or streaking.
how much does the resin cost?
Nice job
2 complicated 🤲🏽
How do you do touch up after it has dried?
sand affected area smooth to the touch with 220-320 grit sandpaper then make sure its smooth to the touch or when you re-pour it could mirror the affected area. Then use our pour on touch up kit to fix, its the same material just a smaller amount. Pour over affected area then push excess around with foam roller
when you were using the blow dryer , was it warm air or cold air ?
Brenda Amor the warm air
Looks nice as a finish. How long will it last while you clean the surface after complete curing ?
Is there an alternative to the heat gun, like hairdryer or blowtorch, or nothing?
Yes you can also use a hair dryer.
Can you thin down product to shoot through an hvlp ?
Ekopel can not be thinned out or it will cause yellowing and streaking
How do you prep the tub first?
To prep your tub: Peel up what you can of the old paint then sand the rest smooth with 400 grit sandpaper. Next give the tub a deep clean using Lysol power. You'll want to get the room temp up to 70-75 degrees. Then you will be ready for you ekopel application.
That was an incredibly fast response! I was just about to delete this comment as I see that you have other steps. Thank you for your response
Is there any toxic odor?
SANVELForex no, Ekopel is 99% solids. There are no strong chemical solvents in the material.
Can this be done on any color tub? I need to change my birch color tub to white..
Yes Ekopel 2K will cover up any color!
If there’s a few hairline crack in fiberglass shower bottom will this product seal those cracks? Or is there’s another product I should use first?
I would recommend filling any cracks, chips, holes, dents, or pitted areas with car bondo and then sand smooth, before applying ekopel.
can you add color. I see all come in white only. Mines a bine color or light almond. Im going white or light marble gray
DYI-n-SAVE-FROM A-Z we have color add ons on our website.
Can you do this on a fiberglass type tub?
Thats what i want to know too
Yes you can...
What do you suggest for repairing a cracked fiberglass tub/ shower unit. Can it be repaired ? Thx.
Where would I buy your trowel comb?
we no longer use the trowel comb method, the best method is with the foam roller included in the kit.
Will this work on a bathtub that you cannot get clean?
Yes this will cover up any pre existing stains or old colors.
@@RefinishedBathSolutions do the makers sponsor your company to promote their products? Ty
hi, will it work on a previously refinished bathtub that some area of the bathtub are peel off (I do not know what product it had been used).
Does it fill in shallow enamel chips?
Any deep cracks, chips, dents, or holes would need to be filled with car bondo first.
This is the link to our website is below. refinishedbathsolutions.com/
It will make your tub look brand new again! For prep work you'll need to sand it smooth we recommend 220-320 sandpaper. Then give it a deep clean, we recommend lysol power. Then you will be ready for your application.
Wouldn't it have been wise to remove the fixtures and drain?
