The first time I saw this movie was back in 2016 during a roadtrip in Europe with my parents.
So, we were in the Alps and it was about 6 in the morning, we had gotten about 2 hours of sleep in our car because all the hotels in the area where full and we went to a gas station that had just opened a few minutes earlier to get breakfast.
The one guy working at the gas station put the TV on and this movie was playing on the channel that was on. I decided to sit down and proceeded to watch almost the intire movie.
I was so tired and sleepy and the movie was so weird that I legit thought I was still sleeping in the car. And I looked so confused while watching it that the gas station worker started laughing when he saw me and what I was watching.

A masterpiece! One of my favorite movies! I’m glad you had fun watching it again! The Dream song is a total banger. From what I remember of the bts the plot was the director’s little kid’s idea. I think they tried to be faithful to his story and drawings, that’s why it seems kinda low-budget and crazy lol.

When I have nightmares, I squint my eyes tightly shut and wake up. Really works for me.
AND I think how freezing him work is that the electric energy partials were cooled to the point where they stopped moving and became he had a metal body, the freezing temperature caused all the water partials in between the seems of the metal caused it to expand at an incredible rate which increased pressure and caused the metal to shatter in an explosive fashion. I've actually seen something like that happen before, in a way.

I remember watching this once so, so long ago when I was feeling sick. I was on the couch with my legs on my father's. A little stool next to me with some tea. I recall falling asleep here and there. Good times.

This movie is a wholesome Rodriguez family project, the young shark boys are played by his sons, it's also where the idea of Sharkboy & Lavagirl came from(the sequel though is just a corporate cash grab). Another movie based on the filmmaker's child's idea is House(1977), a surreal "horror" movie.
    P. S. Max grew up into a very stereotypical american hunk.

My absolute favorite film from my childhood, I've watched it so many times (alongside charlie and the chocolate factory and spy kids). The themes hit hard, absolute perfection.

If you haven't seen Zathura: A Space Adventure yet, I HIGHLY recommend it. It was a favorite for me when I was younger and this made me think of it
