    You don't have actual conversations with most of these people. You just use a few lines you learned from a book or the internet, which causes really awkward situations. You haven't impressed anyone with this, tbh.

    Heey guys :) The video which you are watching now is is an older video of 2015. I improved 9 of the languages which I speak in this video and I made a video with my progress at the end of 2016. I want to recommend you to watch my video with my recent levels in these 9 languages: th-cam.com/video/T30AlXMJ6L0/w-d-xo.html. Of course I can handle criticism, but it's nice if you can criticize me after watching the video with my progress so far. Then you can also compare these two videos :) Cheers

      I can only speak english but members of my family speak; dutch, french, Nijanja, fanti... etc.
      I cannot seem to learn any more languages then english so All I can do is to perfect my english.

      English is for talking with people about anything, programming languages are for telling orders to compilers. Here's one english sentence you can translate to C#:
      Enlish: "Move the bitwise logical or result of 22 and 44 to some temporary place. Store it as a integer please!"
      C#: "int x = 22 | 44;"
      How are they similar?

      +My dream
      Well if we're talking not-fluent-language, then I speak about 8.
      Fluent however, is 3.
      Fluent for me is when you stop stuttering when ordering a sandwich with several toppings (no "euh...with the.eh- eh- eh- ehhhh- lettuce and the eh-eh-eh-what's it called, ehh..ehh..pickles..and-" ) and are able to direct strangers across town with 'left right, left at church, right at supermarket, trainstation etc.'-directions.
      If that goes perfectly smooth, and you can answer a couple of basic questions, I think you can say you're fluent.
      However, I personally put the bar higher for myself. I say fluent when I can ramble on about things, without having to stop and search for the words.

      Thats not a reality, thats a STEP in learning a language, he used to do the same with my language “spanish” and now he got waaaaaay better... first you learn a bunch of expressions then you go and have conversations to lose the fear of using the language and once that fear is over you start to absorb everything that the other person says which automatically starts to be on your vocabulary, for me this happened with bulgarian, english and mandarin so its absolutely normal

      You can clearly see him dodging those tricky questions during Vietnamese part and instead went on with what he learnt like what a parrot would have done.

    I think it's important to note that he doesn't say that he's FLUENT in all these languages, he just speaks a bit of each. For example, I speak Japanese, Okinawan Hougen, and English fluently. When I say fluent I mean I can understand an advanced amount of the language, and if I don't understand a word or phrase, I can have it explained to me in that language without having to revert back to my native tongue. But I do speak conversationally in Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish, and Korean. So if I post a video of me speaking all the languages I know, 4 out of 7 are going to be with shaky grammar and pretty bad.

    I hate to say it but I don't think this guy really deserves the title of polyglot. To me, a polyglot is someone who was able to achieve fluency in say 4+ languages, and maybe has some kind of crazy natural ability. I have a friend who I would consider a polyglot; she speaks Polish, English, Russian, Ukrainian, Italian, French and Mandarin with surprising fluency. I don't claim to know these languages, but hearing her speak with natives always sounded really natural and smooth. She speaks quite decent English, but says English is her weakest language by far. By the way, this guy's Japanese is a tad shite. I am no Japanese expert, but 私はカウボーイです is not a tricky sentence. He didn't conjugate any verbs, or use any complex grammar. AはBです(か) is page 1 of the simplest Japanese textbooks. I would say he doesn't speak Japanese.

      I agree sir, he is no way a polyglot, it seems like he has no basic understanding of most of the 18 languages he claims to be fluent in (fluent is used here because he calls him self a polyglot), maybe he knows three or four languages well but he is another youtuber seeking quick fame. I cant judge his ability and he certainly knows way more than me but I can say that for my native language he is barely at a level capable of holding a normal conversation, and this seems the trend as many comments say this for other languages.

      y w I felt the same when he talked in spanish, He only said: I painted these and repeated it twice, then he said I like “tortilla de patata” when he was asked the reason to go to Spain. I follow Moses as well and they both struggle so much with spanish, I wonder if it is the same with the other languages I can’t understand.

      Yes its the same, I speak hindi Dutch german and french. His french is ok. His hindi is bad. His Dutch Amsterdam accent is very thick, which is probably why he has trouble with sounding authentic in other languages.

      Oh for sure he speaks horrible Japanese, his pronunciation is way off, he doesn't know anything but the most basic sentences, and I suppose he doesn't know conjunctions of verbs at all.
      That's not considered even basic level, let alone speaking a language.
      And btw his Hebrew is also very bad, probably as his Japanese.

      It just means he has to improve.

      Beemer That's because Latin is a dead language. The best way of learning a language is exposure to it and he definitely gets it :)

    • @droeftoeter9215
      @droeftoeter9215 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And it's because you probably didn't learn to speak in Latin, because nobody does, you only learn to translate from Latin to your own language

    • @desender
      @desender 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also, even if you knew how to speak it you wouldn't be able to have a conversation with anyone because even the most knowledgeable are able to say one sentence or so without having to cheat.

    • @beemer9108
      @beemer9108 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are different kinds of Latin, guys. There is the more common "Roman-Catholic Latin" nowadays, which is actually spoken, but mostly in the Vatican as a form of tradition. There is also "Roman Latin" which has mostly made up rules, but still standardized in textbooks that are taught in schools that still have the language as a class. The language is only "dead" because the population that feasibly speaks it consistently is less than any other language, but it's still a language that people can speak.

    • @desender
      @desender 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Your Thai is pretty broken. You said "poot Thai nid noi", that is the same as saying "Speak Thai little bit". What you need to be saying is "Poot paa saa Thai dai nid noi" which literally translates as "speak language Thai can a little bit" but would be the same as saying "I can speak a little bit of Thai". You can also add "pom" at the beginning too as that means "I (for male speakers)" but pronouns are usually dropped in Thai if it is obvious by context. A good follow up after "saa-bai dee mai" would be "kun chue a-rai" which is "You name what" as a literal translation, but means "What is your name?" Keep at it

    Amazing that you are able to speak so many languages wow! Even tho it's quite basic in some of them, it's still amazing! I'm only able to have conversations in Danish (first language), English, Korean and German - and the last two I'm still struggling haha.
    An advice I would give is to study the dialect and the speed of the languages you can speak so far. Your way of speaking is very similar when you talk in the different languages - you don't really change. Obviously I don't understand all the languages but I could especially see it with the Korean and Danish part :-)). If you nail that you'll sound much more fluent!
    Really cool tho!!

I have the same problem with Japanese. I will try to improve my accent in all languages. I'm meeting al lot of tourists every day, so I have great possibilities to work on my accent, grammar and knowledge of vocabulary. Good luck with the languages wich you are learning! Cheers

      Hi I'm an Indonesian trilingual and wow man 18 languages that's impressive. I obviously dont understand all 18 except for English, Indonesian and Chinese. Here's what little advice I can offer you:
      For your Chinese, try to pay more attention to your shengdiao (intonations) as its sometimes hard to distinguish what you are saying (many chinese words sound similar and I think you know that). I recommend you to watch more chinese movies/videos and pay attention to the way they speak. They tend to speak fast but it is perfectly alright to slow down.
      For your Bahasa Indonesia on the other hand, try to speak in a different accent like what @frejamøller said and I also recommend reading books/online articles in Indonesian, so as to improve the way you structure your sentences and your vocabulary.
      You are definitely on track (atleast in learning Indonesian and Chinese). Keep up the awesome work!

      Wouter Corduwener Hey you! :-). Danish is indeed a language that's very hard to learn - especially the pronunciation as you said in the video. Actually I'm studying at university right now and one of the things I'm studying is Danish as a second language, so how to teach Danish to others. I really admire people learning Danish after starting at university haha! You are truly great! Keep up the good work!
