If you already have a job Take game dev as a hobby and have fun *having fun is important* ~ that way you can never fail. Then on side just try to promote it for players to play and get feedback ~ that way build your reputation and earn yourself a respect~while trying to understand what community wants Not to make money ~ no one really wants to buy random games in this century from unknown sources Keep in mind if you think of hard profiting from game dev ~ that's an instant fail from the beginning as there are so many games that are epic yet completely free to play
I don’t know if this is possible but could you add a counter like for if you dodge a punch and throw one simultaneously it will do a powerful counter attack. Also I love this game it looks awesome!
1:30 That should be a powerup where you lay boxing glove's making your regular attack's from the arms do less damage but you can control your boxing gloves from anywhere in the arena to hit your opponent from farther away
Really good first play test, glad you learned a lot from it! Potential two birds one stone solution: make stamina regeneration speed slightly depend on how frequently you're throwing out punches. That way, flailing your arms around will just make you run out of energy quickly and never get it back fast enough. Tldr; punish bad gameplay instead of making it impossible
As a side note, as a swedish spare time game developer myself, this series (that I just found yesterday) is very inspiring and while I don't think you should start making tutorials of what you do I would love if you made the videos longer and involved more of your process and thoughts. Can't wait for the next episode!
You should add a character color customization for the shorts and gloves. Also, for each player, the two colors should be in a square split in half. The top color is the glove color, and the bottom color is the shorts color. It will display near each player's HUD.
Dude you entertainment is what makes these videos. The game looks great but if someone else was making it I would not be this entertained. Even the last 15 seconds of your video was just so entertaining. Keep it up my man!
I think you should add : 1. options to change the amount of health and stomina (that doesn't mean there shouldn't be a very ballanced *default* option). 2. Endless mode (with the score popping up at the end of each round) I'm looking forward to this project of yours :)
Tip: add “finishing moves” where when you knock someone out, it will play a predetermined animation of the players choice like slamming them on your knee or picking them up and throwing them out of the ring.

I have a idea to make the game more rewarding, increase stamina and stamina recovery so you wont be annoyed by running out of stamina all the time, but increase health so the difficulty stays the same, this Will hopefully let you punch your opponent more and easier but keep the difficulty the same, another idea is to put slow motion when you hit your enemy with a hard hit while your enemy is stunned. keep up your awsome work man, your my favuorite youtuber
Really cool! Love it and yo make the BEST devlogs out there! I have a tip, I don’t know how long a match is bc you edit them. But split the gameplay into 3 short rounds, lets say 1 minute each. In that way the player can be more casual and fire off alot of punches. When a round is over you get full stamina again and the fight is back on!!! Keep up the awesome job!!

Some things I believe would improve the balance and feel of the game - Rather than creating split-screen (the play area is small enough that it'd be kind of redundant) link the leaning to the rotation of the character. If the character is facing towards the left, the normal position of the left lean on the right stick becomes a downwards lean. - Adding a superficial cooldown to punches would also likely be the wrong approach. If you add a negative connotation to spamming (such as punching into the air or hitting the opponents arms heavily reduces stamina vs a small reduction for body and head shots) it will force players to be more strategic with the little stamina they have - Also to entice players to be more conservative with their punches, stamina regeneration should be increased if the player doesn't fully deplete their bar. - Damage for a hit done to a stunned player should also be heavily increased. (1/5 - 1/4 of the total health?) - Maybe also increase the amount of damage that is done to a player that is punching - Leaning into a punch should do much more damage than it does currently.
Personally I'd lower the health by a lot and make it like best of 3. This way its faster paced and there is more opportunity for somebody who's not doing so well to recover in later rounds. I love the stars btw!
Can't believe it's been 4 months since you started this journey. This game is becoming really cool. My suggestion for the stamina system would be to regain stamina fast you have to go back to your corner and enter a sort of rest mode. In that rest mode your "coach" will try n defend u but the player would have a delay in his/her change from rest mode to fight mode. Additionally if you supercharge your stamina(rest for 2 rest periods) you get a super punche that does mega damage with one try for each arm. This suggestion is kind of alot, but i hope it helps you out!!
Oh the idea for regain the stamina faster is great ! I noticed during the video that the players have no other reason to move away from each other than to protect themselves I hope the game's master will consider your suggestion 😉
Its amazing how I found this channel. One day I was bored and didnt know what game to make. I needed some inspiration, so I searched up "Game Dev Log" and suprisingly, a ponty pants video was the first thing that showed up. So I clicked on it. And I loved it. Ponty is really funny and etertaining, and is an inspiration to me. One day hes gonna be a big youtuber, trust me.
Lowering both health and stamina would make each punch more valuable and stop the total spamfest that's going on at the moment, making it more rewarding for doing successful blocks and dodges and makes landing a large hit that leaves you open while charging a gamble unless you master it. Also, instead of blocking making you stop regenerating stamina you should regenerate stamina FASTER while blocking but make body hits while blocking drain the stamina more than standard. This way you can control your stamina regeneration but it can easily cost you if you're not careful. Having each move have both a pro and con makes it more balanced and puts more emphasis on management of your moves and taking advantage of what your opponent is doing. As for the stamina thing just have the sweat droplet be gone when at max stamina and as soon as you go below max stamina make a tiny droplet appear that grows in size until you get stunned. It's a very easy to read visual that EVERYONE will get straight away.
U should add some physics to the fence in the ring and add a little strech to it when the player is close, also make the crowd move and have audio thats my advice
Having rounds where stamina regenerates inbetween rounds may help with stamina dropping so quickly. This way the players have these windows to try to maximize their stamima use, would help maybe prevent players from playing super safe (always only blocking) or super aggressive (spam punching)
It's quite the sausage fest in here, huh? Lmao! I'd say from an outside perspective, this looks HELLA fun to play. Muscle Hamster approves! I also like a lot of the video effects you toss in to your clips, it helps give me ideas of different things I can do with my devlogs. ;)
To come back more easily in the game, I suggest you that when you're stoned, you "revive" with half of stamina. I think that can really help 🥊 And as always really good video in which I laughted a lot

The sound design at 8:55 whenever she gets K.O.ed is so satisfying, it looks and sounds like you dislocated her hip somehow. Oddly realistic ending to a boxing match in a goofy game like this
A few ideas to stop punch spamming: combos to encourage better punches, spamming too quickly will exponentially drain stamina, missing a punch will give you a small cool down, missing a big punch will give you a bigger cool down. Also maybe if you block a punch your opponent gets a small punch cool down. Idk if these are relevant to boxing but they are common in games. Check out the game Mordhau for some inspiration. Its a sword fighting game but a lot of the general mechanics like timing your swings and stuff really help prevent people from just spamming and add a good skill curve in.
Congratulations with the first ever alfa-tester in the crew! So, what can I say after watching this video? You need to tweak down health OR up damage. Even those chaotic mess hits(that you totally need to ban, yeah...) make some damage, but. I don't saw it on the video. It's just like... If health even decrease, I don't see it. Really. You can totally ignore this comment, if you want. I don't mind. Keep it up!
For the stamina, you can make it so that the maximum stamina depletes a little everytime you whiff a punch and if you try to punch when your stamina is low or getting hit while blocking, so you can't regenerate to full stamina. It'll force you to attempt a retreat sometimes and not throw crazy flurries that'll miss.
I really like the design of the stars and water droplets. Great job and keep it up! Curious wether you'll also work a bit on the match rules next (having rounds and a timer or something)
A little advice : add a menu at the begining, or a pause menu to pause the game. Then you'll be able to add simple settings to adjust the game during tests AND without having to search in the spaghetti :) (for example disabling stamina during your second fight) I'm not fan of too much settings in games but it could be temporary for the dev journey
“You need to fix it! I’m gonna use it until you fix it.” This feedback is mind blowing. From a casual game, casual player, this comment really provides tremendous insight on why multiplayer games fail to retain a quality player base… wow.
Couple of thoughts: punch speed could slow the more you throw in a row, OR you could limit number of consecutive punches before a small timeout period (half a second, a whole second, something along those lines). Second option seems more inline with boxing. Throw a combo of a few punches, get your guard back up. General thoughts: game looks super fun but it seems hard to aim your punches. I think the punches should always be on target, maybe awarding leaning into them with a little extra damage rather than requiring leaning for accuracy. Matches also seem to last a long time. I'd aim for a standard Smash match length.
It'd be cool if you could bounce off the ring into your opponent for a little added damage in a punch. Maybe have it count how many combo punches you do too.
I would be lieing if I said I didn't want to play punch a bunch. I love the concept and from what I can see you are a very good dev. I trust you to do good with the project. Just know you already have a sale 👍
Definitely enjoying the devlogs. Maybe add some sort of way to encourage the players to move apart from each other? Like a powerup could appear on both sides of the arena? Or there could be an obstacle that occasionally falls to the focus point of the camera so if the players are so close they would need to move back a bit.
Looks like it will be a lot of fun! Need rounds (you can be saved by the bell), shorter matches overall perhaps and maybe a stamina system that regenerates more if you perform certain actions, maybe for successful blocks? Audience sound will add a lot as well.
Check out dark souls fight system, to prevent spamming they have this input queue, it ques one next move whenver you spam attack buttons, a second hit will not come out unless the first one is done, and the fact that you cannot cancel out of the queued move teaches you to commit to your inputs
here is my idea 2 headbuts type 1)very close to the enemy headbut 2) juming from a position headbuts so if u do the first headbuts it does damage quite alot and stun the enemy 1st headbuts spot=Chest,head these are very effective for the 1st headbut now the 2nd headbuts from a distance its pushes the enemy back stuns the enemy does alot of damage but takes all your stamina for the 2nd the effective part should be the chest only thx if you are reading this
Have you ever thought about the game menu? Press start and you go to a page where you customize your avatars color and then go to another page where you then choose to play 1v1 or 2v2. That be so cool! i have an idea and a logo that i wanted to do for a long time but never got the time to do it :(
I’m not really crazy about the anime-inspired comic type hits. It makes it seem cartoony, but it’s distracting and just feels wrong to me. Just my opinion though !
The game looks really fun to play. An easy way to make the controls easier to grasp is to have a tutorial levels where you slowly introduce the mechanics, allowing the player to understand and get used to each one. Love the series though. Keep going!
I think you need to slow the movement speed of a stunned character a little bit. Also, while blocking, you should still get stamina back, but at about half of a quarter the speed as not blocking.
Keeping the spammy punches could still be a good idea. I think of it this way: Some boxers do this, but you should be more vulnerable the more you spam(?)

What if you added the helmet and it comically gets knocked off whenever stamina’s low. Then it “re-plops” on the boxers head w sound when he’s good!

I think the punches should always be on target, maybe awarding leaning into them with a little extra damage rather than requiring leaning for accuracy. Matches also seem to last a long time. I'd aim for a standard Smash match length.
It'd be cool if you could bounce off the ring into your opponent for a little added damage in a punch. Maybe have it count how many combo punches you do too.
I would be lieing if I said I didn't want to play punch a bunch. I love the concept and from what I can see you are a very good dev. I trust you to do good with the project. Just know you already have a sale 👍

Yo who else thought it looked like a dbz fight when the punches were flying.
Definitely enjoying the devlogs. Maybe add some sort of way to encourage the players to move apart from each other? Like a powerup could appear on both sides of the arena? Or there could be an obstacle that occasionally falls to the focus point of the camera so if the players are so close they would need to move back a bit.

Looks like it will be a lot of fun! Need rounds (you can be saved by the bell), shorter matches overall perhaps and maybe a stamina system that regenerates more if you perform certain actions, maybe for successful blocks?
Audience sound will add a lot as well.

Idea : when you get a successful hit when the enemy is stunned you get a little of stamina back or something similar
Check out dark souls fight system, to prevent spamming they have this input queue, it ques one next move whenver you spam attack buttons, a second hit will not come out unless the first one is done, and the fact that you cannot cancel out of the queued move teaches you to commit to your inputs

Random idea: More hp -> faster stamina regeneration... Less hp -> slower stamina regeneration. or even the other way.
You should add a timer like in UFC and make stats (punchs, stuns etc) so if players draw someone will win by stats or tie if the stats are the same
I have an idea: Add a cooldown for punching!
For example: After 3 spammed punches, put a cooldown from 0 to 5 seconds. It would be awesome

here is my idea 2 headbuts type 1)very close to the enemy headbut 2) juming from a position headbuts so if u do the first headbuts it does damage quite alot and stun the enemy 1st headbuts spot=Chest,head these are very effective for the 1st headbut now the 2nd headbuts from a distance its pushes the enemy back stuns the enemy does alot of damage but takes all your stamina for the 2nd the effective part should be the chest only thx if you are reading this

Nah, I think slow addition could help. Like add it when people grind the game enough. Then add on the stamina for an extra challenge.

Have you ever thought about the game menu? Press start and you go to a page where you customize your avatars color and then go to another page where you then choose to play 1v1 or 2v2. That be so cool! i have an idea and a logo that i wanted to do for a long time but never got the time to do it :(

I think you should make the character walk slower if he walks backwards, so the other player doesn't need to chase him
I’m not really crazy about the anime-inspired comic type hits. It makes it seem cartoony, but it’s distracting and just feels wrong to me. Just my opinion though !
I think you could add a combo of moves that (if your oponent is with low health) activates the E P I K finisher. Like a fatality
The game looks really fun to play. An easy way to make the controls easier to grasp is to have a tutorial levels where you slowly introduce the mechanics, allowing the player to understand and get used to each one. Love the series though. Keep going!
I think you need to slow the movement speed of a stunned character a little bit.
Also, while blocking, you should still get stamina back, but at about half of a quarter the speed as not blocking.
Keeping the spammy punches could still be a good idea. I think of it this way: Some boxers do this, but you should be more vulnerable the more you spam(?)
