    It’s scary that people are putting fakes in what look like PSA slabs, but it’s always a good practice to lookup the number on PSAs site. I’ve seen at least 4-5 examples of it on eBay and reported the seller to EBay.

    Very good catch. I've also found that you cannot 100% trust the photos on the PSA Auction Prices Realized when a card was previously sold through eBay. PSA simply pulls the photo directly from eBay, when in some cases the eBay listing COULD have been a fake. You need to do a lot of due diligence when buying high end cards. Best to get really familiar with the changes in the PSA flips over the years. There are a couple of great sites that walk through examples of the old flips. Nice work and great video.

    • @BreakoutCards

      Yup you are right. With PSA taking pics of every card now though, it should crack down on fakes

  • @vintagecollector5340
    @vintagecollector5340 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Good catch. 👍Indeed, there's tons of fraud in the market. The only good thing about it is that there is a threshold these scammers hold themselves to, be it a raw card or graded card. Very unlikely anyone is going through the trouble to counterfeit a low-end collectible, which is what's good about buying raw and graded stuff that isn't very valuable right now.

  • @vintagecardcurator
    @vintagecardcurator 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great catch Ryan! I just heard you on the Wax Pack Heroes Podcast.
    What immediately stuck out to me was the presence of a standing fan in white, under the upper seating, in the fake. They don't appear on the real card.

  • @odinsameasfirst2640
    @odinsameasfirst2640 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    If you look at the net. Then, look at the cement coloring of the upper deck just below the net. It's bright gray and there is no shadow or darkness. The entire upper color has been significantly altered. Now compare the color of the upper deck to the card on the right.
    Right above shadow guy at the top of the isle, you clearly can see a bad photoshop goof with the upper deck concrete bright lit up coloring where darkness and shadows are what the original card should look like.

    What baffles me is the authentic Jordan PSA 10 having edge wear? How and why if it's PSA 10? It's should've been graded PSA 9 at best.

  • @elong087
    @elong087 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Great video, love the content! Maybe my eyes are off but the “edge wear” that you are talking about in the real PSA 10 looks like it could just be a rough cut, something that PSA is said to be very tolerant on. What are your thoughts?

    Main reason I left this hobby! Had a PSA 10 Jordan once myself and I would have never noticed the difference! Fake cases could crash this market! Got out of collecting back in 2015.

  • @frankcastle3971
    @frankcastle3971 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    First thing I noticed right off the bat was the color was darker than the original. This is why I don't trust PSA because they don't care when it comes to grading, especially when that Jordan is not even a 10 maybe a 8 or 9 at best.

    • @AchillesWrath1
      @AchillesWrath1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nah there's no such thing as a perfect fake. People have been making fake cards for years but they can never make one identical to the real one without the original printing plates. Under a jewelers loop the differences are quite obvious.

  • @tampahomeinvestorsllc7559
    @tampahomeinvestorsllc7559 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Nice catch. Just out of curiosity, what is the lowest valued card that you've seen in a fake PSA slab? I know the high-end this can happen, but just curious how low they'll go. Thanks in advance.

      I’ve seen $200 card in fake slab. Not necessarily a fake card but replace the psa 10 with a lessor grade card. Beware anytime you buy from consignors. Very few have high standards. Many let everything through. Always check sales history when buying a slab and checking the cert number and compare cards from original sale to the current card.

  • @thomastaylor9579
    @thomastaylor9579 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    wow, that's great information to know about the faking of PSA slabs, I thought it was going to be about how someone got a fake Jordan by PSA and got it graded a Gem mint 10,because makes me wonder sometimes like how they will send a card back with the designation of altered, won't be specific on how they think it's been altered ,just altered, and still charge you the express price of $164.00 ,which i think is unfair. But great to know now to look out for counterfeit PSA slabs.

  • @rarelyaccurate6252
    @rarelyaccurate6252 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The problem is that psa slabs can be opened with strong suction cups and strong wrists with little to no obvious wear... I'm pretty sure if you have an ultrasonic welder you can put them back together, perhaps even with epoxy.

    The PSA imprint is missing on the fake case. That should be your first clue. In the lower right corner of the case should have a mold imprint with PSA. But always look at the product. It is clearly not a 10 because of the border and the color bleed of the actual image. Anytime you consider purchasing a card, take a verified PSA card/case with you. An honest seller will want you to do your due diligence, while a scammer will try to rush you.

    Wait a minute, but can't they just get a legitimate gem mint psa 10 Jordan rookie, take it out of the real psa 10 case, put a fake Jordan rookie in the real psa 10 case, sell it and then get the real psa 10 Jordan rookie (raw at this point), send it back to psa to get graded again and then keep repeating the process?
