>Sleepers
>Ajani and Guide of Souls
We have differing ideas of sleeper cards
And the flare. I saw that one immediately. T 1 could stomping grounds shock, grazer, drop a land, flare the grazer get a basic tapped and one to hand. T2 4 mana. Play it in ponza and watch your opponent suffer as they never get passed 2 lands again
Ajani was definitely a sleeper agent though.
If you compare any of these to the colossal stink commander players are already raising about Nadu, then yes, yes they are sleepers.
When Aether Revolts, it sparkles 🫠
The true sleeper was Ral
Quest for the necropolis has been cracked every time I have played it, deffinantly worth playing
I had the same experience, honestly a great card
Definitely*
party thrasher is actually a really powerful two drop in the format that provides a lot of card advantage, definitely good for commander
Unstable Amulet and Phlage come to mind
I think people expected Phlage to be good, but Amulet is REALLY overperforming for me. Amped Raptor too, although that is also a card people knew would be solid, it is actually just completely broken.
Played amulet expecting it to be trash and it was crazy
After seeing aspiring spikes storm list ruby medallion and ral are some real sleeper hits
You'd think Ral would be on this considering yet again mtggoldfish got it completely wrong in spoiler season.
I mean they can only really talk about what they have experienced and only spike was messing around with storm in early access. You don’t really come to this channel for competitive content it’s more a bunch a good friends talking about there hobby.
Buried alive should be up here. Grixis/Rakdos phoenix will be really cool.
It's a reprint
@@itakiso6932It is new to Modern though, curious how/if it’ll be utilized in the format
Also really not a sleeper lol, buried alive has been good for a WHILE
Edit: oops spelling
@@kylarcheng1346 go?
Guide of souls and flare of cultivation were talked about extensively for their uses in modern. How were they "sleepers"? Feels like they shouldnt be on this list
Yeah. That was my thought, too. Sleeper to people that are on the MTGGoldfish podcast and no one else. 😂
Love the rain dogs in the background
I feel like Devourer of Destiny is more similar to the Chancellors than OUAT. It does have a stronger ability than any of the Chancellors? But I don’t think it would be playable without Ugin’s Labyrinth
Free Scry at the beginning at the game then put it under the land
@@toddpacker1015pretty good
Forget about magic, Tom Waits is playing in the background! 🤩
Oh shit that IS Tom waits. Rain dogs?!
I was able to get the pregame action effect of Devourer of Destiny off in a Commander game a couple of nights ago, and it felt very good to have. I look forward to using it more and more when I can.
legit, invert WILL be going into my izzet deck. such a nasty 3 drop steal or counter for commander. plus, i need flare for my old atarka commander 😂
I’m excited to brew around some of the adapt uncommons
Flare of Denial is dope AF. Great in BUG decks or any recursion deck with Blue
Guide of Souls is what encouraged me to buy the energy matters precon. It looks like such a fun add in to an energy deck and I wanna try experimenting with it
Ah yes no one talked about Flare of Cultivation before this. Such a sleeper card 💯
Amped Raptor is even better than I thought it would be, so much value.
This set is such a power jump, it is not ok.
That's the point. Modern is just horizons block constructed and each modern horizons set is meant to rotate the format.
It's more of a power shift than a jump. Modern will always have tons of crazy powerful cards. If you want to play with a bunch of weak cards play draft 😆
The necrobloom has been very impressive, multiple ways to play the card and multiple ways to ramp or go infinite with mana or creatures
In commander ghostfire slice. Most of the time it's going to be a one mana 4 damage bolt, which does take out a majority of commanders.
This tells me Seth needs an alarm clock
Hot take, but I feel like necrodominance was incredibly undervalued during spoiler season. Things like “it’s so much worse than necropotence”, “the one ring is just better.”
But now necrodominance is the reason why soul spike is selling for around $25-$30 on TCGplayer and is also completely sold out everywhere else (doesn’t help that it was only printed once)
Mutated cultist is my sleeper of choice...
Why you ask?
Turbo depths and then casting ulamog and creating merit leige on turn 1...
Colossal Dreadmask.
Seth still thinking Soul Sisters *is a thing that exists* is cute.
Imo I think that Sakura tribe elder would work great in here to get extra value right after casting your commander while building up mana to cast some of the haymakers in the graveyard, and death bloom ritualist can also generate and absurd amount of mana, but it’s a bit expensive at 5 mana
What are you talking about?
Oh that’s weird, I commented this under a video by bettercommander abt coram the undertaker, I have no idea why it showed up here
Mutated cultist is a really slept on card turn one swamp, turn two dark depths play dark ritual followed by mutated cultist take off all ice counters from Merritt Lodge turn 3 20/20 indestructible merit Lodge swing
You mean like with Vampire Hexmage? The combo that's been around for over a decade now? And when did we get Dark Ritual in modern?
Ajani, Guide to souls and Ocelot Pride is a thing and its a nasty thing
Surprised Aether Revolt didn't make the list
Too slow for modern probably? I've played it and it's fine but that just my guess
Emperor of bones is really good imo, a backup plan in (timeless) scam for me
Unstable Amulet and Aether Revolt
5 sleepers? 2 and 3 were on my list for power houses.
Breaker of Creation in artifact commander decks rules
Had a hilarious game against devourer of destiny where I played essentially only devoid creatures and they had to devour their own stuff hehehe
I'd bet that Invert Polarity won't see any play in Modern. It's too similar to Odds and Ends, a split card from Dissention, and that definitely doesn't get played. Invert Polarity hits non instants/sorceries, though, so maybe i'm wrong
Orim's Chant. Why isn't nobody talking about this card
Aboreal is insane
I came here to say this. He must be fishing for comments correcting him.
Guide of souls, a 3 mama creature compressed into 1 mana
Yes
Bit of sneaky Tom Waits in the background?
Was it expanding goo? Anyways, that card lost me all 9 of my games at the MH3 prerelease, I just wanted to use the Ulamog i pulled 😭
This set IS a power jump. Literally half of the cards in my mono white weenie, are being replaced, to cats.... which is fine.... so its now cats and humans, with a red splash in it, to take advantage of the Pariah/Avenger potency. Ocelot Pride is golden, its just expensive.
Flare of Cultivation and the other Flares are banned in historic. Wow.
What do mean high roll when it’s flipping a coin?
Are any of these cards actually seeing competitive play
Does anyone else get Kaldheim or Tarkir vibes from Guide of Souls?
Psychic frog is busted
Do you strain your voice to sound like that?
Hah I think the same thing
@@ICee712 it gets kinda hard to listen too tbh
My pick is Rain Dogs
For I am a Rain Dog, toOoOoOOoOooo
How can you call flare , a $15+ card a sleeper?
Tom Waits background music
What happened with Once Upon a Time?
I got banned in modern, pioneer/explorer, historic, and standard.
If flare of cultivation is a sleeper what does the term even mean lmao
Isnt Ajani Planeswalker side a red permanent itself?
It doesn't count itself though, it needs you to have another red permanent
Ajani is a sleeper? What?
Devourer is so much worse than once upon a time, the card doesn't even go into your hand
Obviously since devourer stays in hand.
"Sleeper cards"
Flare of cultivation is absolutely not a sleeper
Seth can say Arbor but not Arboreal
Wizards is killing their own game. I don’t want to play Yugi Yo. I want to play magic.
What's a "sleeper"?
A card that doesn't get a lot of attention and is (in the opinion of someone using the term) more powerful than you might realize. i.e., A card that people are sleeping on
@@andrewblackwell6054 Thx, bro
does anyone know what's wrong with him? why does he talk like that?
These are all true
The way you speak is really fun to mimic.
✨Respectfully✨
i pray to God invert polarity doesn't see play. games will be decided by literal coin flips.
Hardly “sleepers”
Sleepers? Lol
Yeah, those aren't sleepers
Why is bro talking like a goofball
I cannot get past your voice
The newscaster radio host voice is super annoying from this dude
What an awful voice affect
Seth. How the hell do you pronounce "arbor" correctly, but utterly fail to pronounce "arboreal"? You make no sense.
stop the fake voice
