Steam for Linux is made for the x64 architecture. the CPU in the switch is arm64 based. You could launch steam on the switch with the help of box86 / box64, but getting that up and running is a really painful process. I've only seen one TH-camr do it so far. I've personally attempted it on a jailbroken M1 iPad Pro, running virtualized Ubuntu, but I wasn't successful. So yea, Steam on the Switch is possible.

LineageOS is great. One of the developers helped me get it running on one of my Prototype NVIDIA Shield Portables. It has the same CPU as the Nintendo Switch which is interesting, unfortunately it runs the TV version of Android so a lot of features don't work properly or are hard to navigate. I still have one that is stock, it's fun to tinker around with these things every once in a while.

Meanwhile I treat "sysMMC" as if it's the nuclear football. Afaik if you use Atmosphere, either sysMMC OR emuMMC are safe as Atmosphere essentially has a built in DNS redirect, but the issue with the Switch OS is that the OS keeps logs of whatever happens on the hardware. (Almost) anything can go on emuMMC as that one never goes online, but since sysMMC is CFW on your primary OS, any logs generated WILL be sent to the company once the system successfully makes contact with its servers, thus flagging you with a ban. You could erase the logs from the system, but any mismatches between the log on the system vs. a copy on the server can also get you banned Tl;dr while yes it is possible to use sysMMC without getting banned, the stakes are very high

If you get steam on the nintendo switch with linux then manage to get the steam deck ui on it (which people have done to windows handhelds after installing linux on them) you basically have the steam deck experience on your switch, doubt it will run many games though lol
Steam Deck OLED 1TB is less than $650, and it's wide-open for tinkering to your heart's desire. It's crazy that you spent that on jailbreaking your switch. I would just keep the Switch stock, since you like going online with N, and use the Steam Deck for everything else. Just my 2 cents.

Switch CPU architecture is ARM and AMD/Intel CPU's are x86_64, thus any software compiled for x86_64 simply will not run on ARM architecture, this is already known on the Raspberry Pi side of Linux.
I transfer a modded save on splatoon 2 from my modded version of my switch to my none modded version of my switch so I could have everything in the game and still play online with no worry of getting banned

Considering the fact that post-2018 Switches cannot be modded without modchip intervention leads me to believe that Nintendo has learned from their mistakes even more so than from last time. There's a reason why the Switch doesn't have a web browser (Wii U exploit), or allow you to transfer save games to your SD card (Wii exploit)

I don't know if it works with a mod chip but I just use an atmosphere config file to hide my serial. No worries about having to solder in a new CPU.
