I was 5 when my dad took us to see Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, so I grew up loving it. I know it's a biopic & isn't accurate, but the performances & action scenes were fun. JSL turned in a fine performance (the part where he unleashes his frustration in front of Linda should have netted him an Oscar nomination & he should have been a bigger star) & the movie was never boring. It's a biopic, don't look for it to be completely true to the actual story. Treat biopics like comic book adaptations: you're NEVER going to get a one-to-one translation, so just sit back & enjoy the ride.
Hi Stripey just want to apologise that I don't always comment but believe me I do watch all your video's, you are the best Bruce Lee information channel. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for keeping him alive. Best regards Michael
Thank you for the shout-out Stripey. ( And yeh...that was indeed "sarcasm" you detected.. not too cleverly concealed I'm afraid...) I do agree that the Lee estate has certainly ( for the most part) done a good job of maintaining a completely positive image of Bruce. Tho I do believe that Lee's legacy can more than withstand the weight of any myth damaging truth. As well as "jabs" at his legacy, ala "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood." Cheers.
Hey stripe, big fan of the channel back in the vinyl days, haven’t watched in a while since brucle Lee content isn’t really my bag, just want to say how great it is to see how much your channel has grown in the meantime well done pal and all the best in the future👏
Love the channel Stripey. As I was watching this vid my Way of the Dragon by Arrow was pushed through my letter box. You know what I got it for, the masterpiece that is The Final GoD. I've also been wondering why Ang's biopic went quiet and I did think for a second that maybe he had to revisit the script because of some letters that became public. Doubt the estate would be into that take though so maybe not!
Thank you. Hopefully the Arrow Way of the Dragon has the correct bonus disc. I doubt Ang Lee's bio will go anywhere near the Bob Baker letters, mate. Cheers Pal 👍

Post script, just to clarify about my previous comment , I meant the yellow GI’s and black belts in Enter the Dragon …. It made me wonder if Bruce knew exactly what he was doing when choosing the iconic colour schemes in GoD and EtD 👍 Oh and one last thing, we’re all agreed now aren’t we that Bruce didn’t do the summersaults and back flips in EtD but was that the same stunt double that did the forward flip from his back into his feet for John Saxon or was that really him ? With Bruce's wife involvement with dragon the bruce lee story movie, I'm surprised that she allowed that many falsehoods in the movie. Many teaching opportunities missed.

The soundtrack by Randy Neuman was fantastic but during the first fight in the dance hall, Jason Scott Lee already looked like The DRAGON in "ETD".They should have sticked to the rooftop fights with the other martial arts rivals which was more factual. Then there's the first encouter with Wong Jack Man which was like a Mortal Combat Tournament...I do like the "Warrior" vs The Master and the idea behind it-got chills when the gravestone was stricken with blood with the actual date of birth and death, that was a haunting shot. Finally, during the final Linda narration; I'd always imagined a slow mo shot of The King of Kung Fu in "ETD" walking emotionless amidst the other participants in Han's tournament after killing Oharra in b&w... Hi. Any new film about Bruce MUST mention the HUGE impact that Jiddu Krishnamurti had on him after his back injury. As for a documentary, like I said on the KFG podcast "I don't think it has been made yet, maybe fans may have to do it" Enjoy the rest of the weekend pal, cheers 👍
Why do people so hunger for all the negative aspects of a celebrity’s life? To make him more human and take away all the things we gravitated toward the person in the first place? What does that ultimately accomplish? 100% truth and reality has its place no doubt, but this insistence and dependence on it can lessen our attention and affection by a lot for the subject we hold so beloved. Why do people want that?
I would say that its natural for people, fans especially, to learn as much about those they admire as possible. Also, one of Lee's often repeated quotes was, to "be honest with oneself, not to lie to oneself, but to be totally honest..." ( well that my friend is very hard to do ) As one who "grew up" with Lee and his positive influence, I still want to learn about him. The "Baker letters" were a tough pill to swallow (pardon the pun) but essential for a more complete understanding of the MAN and not the "myth."
@@GINKBB All the understanding ever does for me is lower the person in my estimation and help destroy the myth that brought me to the person in the first place. I’m not saying there isn’t reason for digging beneath the IMAGE, but for me it never adds anything, just subtracts. YMMV.
@@ProfessorEchoMedia fair enough. I find that to be true for myself, initially. But as an artist myself and lifelong practitioner of martial arts, I chalk it all up to simply being "human." And with an ongoing attempt at understanding my own myriad personal foibles and failings. The old adage of "Trust the Art, not the artist." certainly comes to mind.
@@GINKBB I agree wholeheartedly. It can be very difficult separating the art from the artist, but often it’s what has to be done. Some things are unequivocally inexcusable, but I don’t find anything like that with Lee, not even the drug use. In the “official trailer #2”, there’s a clip of Linda Lee walking with a blanket covering her body and another Clip where Bruce Lee is on his motorcycle and gets hit by a car. I really hope Shout Factory includes those scenes and more on the 4K release
Thanks, Pal. I just checked out the trailer #2 & you're correct on those scenes. I went on Shout Factory's website, but the new release doesn't mention them. It has The Making of Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story & Behind-the-Scenes Footage, but no deleted scenes. Who knows 🤷♂ Cheers 👍
