Schuster was like, heck this starfish!! What a cutie. I love the baby otts, but I also truly love the old brats ❤.
Also knowing there's a seal that's older than me is insane! She was a 70's baby like.... What on earth!

    Great video, KP !!!
    Beautiful place!
Those sea otters are so enthralling!!!!
I follow a couple of pet Asian otters in Japan. Hana and Kotaro. So smart, adorable and incredibly spoiled!
But your rescue of Joey really turned me on to the sea otters. Like many, I was watching him constantly while he was on TH-cam with the gang. I miss those live streams. Like so many, I so love those otters that there isnt a day that goes by that I dont think of them and you all at Vanaqua.
I also pray that God takes care of them and everyone at Vanaqua and the other aquariums.
I am one of those mothers that worry about all the critters too !
Stay safe everyone and may God watch over all of the goodness in the world!

Had I known that I could possibly (even just maybe) get to work with sea mammals, and help raise them, my field of study would have been much different. Don't get me wrong, I love physics: the long calculations, the universe-spanning ideas, and teaching kids who assume they'll never understand math. (I love watching those light bulbs turn on.) But if I had the chance to work with sea otters, I'd hop into the next transit-time machine and be a marine biologist; and I would head immediately to Oregon!
But watching your videos is the next best thing. Thank you for sharing. All my love to Skinny. :)

Georgia Aquarium is massive. I've never been but I've heard very good things. Oregon Coast Aquarium is smaller but absolutely incredible. The sea otter habitat is the best I've ever seen.

its much better that humans take care of the odd one here and there and we can get to experience them as well.
mother nature is brutal out there and to me it makes more sense to keep some alive for much longer than in the wild
we shouldnt take them ALL in of course but if you see a pup and you wait a while and no mother... then sure rescue it.
just make sure that there is no mother off hunting or something

I always become sad when I see an otter. I was watching animal shorts when TH-cam gave me a video where a trapper choked an otter to unconsciousness and skinned it while it was alive...it moved after the fact. The man was proud of himself, and I only saw positive comments there. I thought humanity was above this and learned to be humane. I was wrong. It was disturbing to see that choking animals is considered humane and using neck snares is allowed. I read about this, an animal, mostly canines can survive in a neck snare for half a day, constantly choking but not enough to die. How is this allowed and endorsed? I saw videos where veteran trappers literally took 7-10 years old children into the wilderness and choked animals to death in front of them. Maybe the problem is with me but I think that could traumatize a child. I think it's cruel and unnecessary, there are better ways to control predator population.
