An Army buddy gave me Gerber Gator for Christmas when I was still in the Army back in 1992. It did all kinds of "soldier work" for me. Still have it today! Great knife!
Tthat was grt. Brought memories late 70s earlly 80s. The buck 110 was the greatest folding hunting knife created. Every kid on my block wanted one. Today spyderco is my main carrying knife. Im left handed and it provides the most models with 4 position pockect clip
Its hard to beat those Opinels for price and value. They aren't hard use knives but they're great little utility knives for around the house, garden, camping, road trips, etc., they're so slicy, they're perfect for food prep while on the road. I used to be on the road a lot, all over the metro Atlanta area, sometimes I spent more time driving between locations than actually working and ate fast food and QT food often. I decided to get a No. 7 to keep in the car just to cut up cheese, sausage, apples and other snacks. My wife went on a road trip not long after I bought it and she always packs tons on food to eat so she doesn't have to stop and get fast food. I "loaned" her my Opinel and never got it back, she fell in love with it for cutting up snacks and stuff and it found a new home in her little cooler bag that pretty much stayed in her car. I had to buy another for myself. I keep one in both vehicles, in my bug out bag and tackle boxes.
gerber Gator rules. It have been laying on the shelf for me for some time but this summer i have use it on every fishing trip together with an Victorinox huntsman. It is like an extension off my arm. You can not find a better grip on a knife .
I love my gator. Bought it in the early 90’s when they first came out. I don’t know if there is a more comfortable handle out there, it just feels right every time I grab it.
My favorite knife is my Cold Steel Recon Tanto. 7" matte black blade, perfect balance. Came with a fantastic Secure-Ex sheath. I guess these knives have been discontinued. But I got mine.
I agree with you about Benchmade their prices are way up in price . If you want a knife where your concerned about heat treat being right get a spyderco Chinese models are just as good . Nice Collection👍
G'day David, good on ya mate, mind you, that's a tough question without more detail. Are you looking for a fancy job above all else, would you be engraving it, is she an outdoors person, if so, camping, hiking, cycling, boating, do you have particular climatic conditions, or just for EDC around town, perhaps a defensive tool, large hands, small hands ? Cheers Duke.
G'day Bryan, nice range there mate !!!!!. Didnt think I'd like Opinels, now I have the 8, 9 & 10. The Gators are so underrated by many, admittedly I paid extra for the Premo versions, (fixed and folding) in S30V. The folder has easily the best ergos of any folder I have, together with great grip in the wet ........... and solid !!!!! Cant say I'm surprised to see a 110 amongst them, noth'n wrong with the standard version, though its nice to have a "special" of an icon, personally, I went for the 2018 DLT LE in S35VN, drop point ... and no nail nick ......I keep my nails short, ...... still try'n to get at least somewhat proficient on guitar ; ) If you want/need big, "flat" and tough, hard to beat a Recon 1 IMO. Any chance you will be doing a 10 favorite small/medium fixed blade vid ? Cheers Duke.
Some of those are on my list as well, but the Spydercos are near the top. Strange how many of my favorite knives are ones I just don't carry in the field. Too precious to use? I've got many that might be described more on the cheap to inexpensive scale, along with a very few, up in the couple hundred$ range along with some family heirlooms. I usually have old "beaters" which could be lost or broken without to much loss, except for sentimental value. My sister-in-law accumulated a lot of diamonds in her day, but wore Zirconium fakes in public. So maybe it's like that.
@@SurvivalOnPurpose as Busse, Bradford, Reiff, Boker, Lionsteel and once Surviveknives does. It's not a problem of replacements, is a geometry matter...but anyway is not that beast we all believe. trust me.
Brian you have made a serious faux pas - no Victorinox folding knife, there are few better folding knife brands, 600 million knife owners worldwide have selected to buy Victorinox knives. You are like a man who goes into a car showroom full of Rolls Royces and buys a Lada
your talking like you dont understand that some of the BEST knives being made today are coming out of China ................. its time to move past that old tired rhetoric.
Actually, I’m talking like someone who understands that while, yes, there are some really good products coming out of China these days, there is also some of the worst crap in the world also coming out of China. Which is why I mentioned it the way I did.
ThE Manix is a great knife, everything else is... MEH. The Vosteed Raccoon with the button-actuated compression lock is one of the bets knives at ANY price right now IF you can actually find one for sale. Benchmade is objectively a garbage company that makes truly GARBAGE and wildly overpriced knives. I worked with them for a while, I will NEVER buy another POS Benchmade anything. Trash company.

I love your knife videos. It's fun to see you getting back to these!
I've seen many knives on your channel over the years, hard to pick a top 10!! Cheers Bryan!

I prefer the svord peasant knife
The Gator was the first folder I bought that wasn’t a pocket knife about 30 years ago and it is my favorite.
My favorite knife is the cold steel American lawman in s35vn use it everyday for years but with a holster cuz that clip will descimate your pocket.
Great choice
Thanks. Great video!

Nice collection Brian, thanks for sharing, YAH bless !
If I'm not mistaken Opinels actually have a convex grind. That plus thin stock: wicked, wicked little slicer.
Good list . I dont beleve No Schrade Old Timer ??

Cool haven’t seen Gerber gator haven’t seen one in a long time. Didn’t realize they were still for sale. Cool video.
Nice to see boker get a mention. Have a few and they preform feel. And I love my jougaless to.
Nice blades!

I’ve had a Mercator knife seems like forever. Bought my first one in a hardware store in 1970. $3.95… now they’re 40 bucks or more.
When i was growing upthe gerber gater was the main knife my dad always used unfortunately got stolen from his car loved that knife
The gator in 154cm for 50 bucks makes for a great hard use folder.
Junglas is great. Glad i guessed right lol it's one of my favorites too and i remember your review of it
It's so good!
@@SurvivalOnPurpose indeed it is
I have a Mercator, but the handle is red without the Cat marking. Also have an Osborne bought it when they first came out.
Looking for a nice folder for my granddaughters graduation. Under 75.00. Got any ideas?

Thought it was the sxb. Jungles is a winner.
Thanks Brian !

Awesome, thanks for this video. Glad to see your favorite knife isn’t something $500.
I got it right
What a dangerous design on number 9! No way would I fool with that one regularly!
I love that the Gerber Gator was included. I love those knives. Do you still have the premium version you reviewed some years back?
I do.
Awesome 😎

Nice video. Go ahead, ramble on. I pretty sure no one minds.
Yes sir , its hot in Arkansas to .
oh my...dude...really funny. But, please, avoid using Junglas since it will break really easy during heavy use. Regrets
I’ve beat the heck out of my Junglas and it is fine. If yours broke then ESEE will replace it no questions asked.

The Gator is 440A which I personally like way more than 420hc steel
The Gator is 420 HC wish is exactly like Sandvik 12 c27.

Actually, that was another case of "can't find my One-Handed Trekker or Fieldmaster and forgot about the little classic in my pocket".
Has benchmade “repented” from their erroneous action from several years ago? I’ve been told their quality or consistency took a nose dive.

All those knives had nifty features but most didn't seen very useful. I have over 100 knives and I wouldnt carry any of those for a day.
