    I just noticed you could even use a "Apply Gradient Along Stroke" stroke option in the Linear type gradient fill on the semi circle to get the same effect without needing to split the circle into two!

  • @joa8055
    @joa8055 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great tutorial! But to add the gradient to the circle, there is a way quicker method! Select the colored circle > apply the gradient > change the colors to the colors you like > then click "Apply Gradient Along Stroke" > shift the gradient sliders as you prefer! This way you do not have to cut the circle in two pieces but go straight to coloring :)

    what happens if you want a specific percentage. Like just guessing that was 70% isn't good enough.

    • @MustafaMuhalab
      @MustafaMuhalab 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah I also want to know how to have an exact number.
      What I did was in after effects trim path and I trim it like 70% and copy the image as reference to work on it in illustrator.

    • @esscee96
      @esscee96 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I.. guess you could probably make another circle inside your progress bar, with no fill and just a thin stroke of about 10px.. Then under the "Stroke" tab check 'Dashed Lines' and play around with the settings until you get a basic guideline of a line every 5 or 10 percent .. ? That way you get a rough idea and can create cuts up till there using the dashed lines as a reference.. I know this isn't exactly a solution but... it was the first thing that came to my mind at-least for a try... Lemme know if there's a better way of doing it I'm curious too.

    • @synhegola
      @synhegola 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just use a modern vector graphic tool like Inkscape, hack in the exact degrees and import it into illustrator.
      The way this is implemented in Illustrator is insanely stupid. The circle segment handles don't snap to anything. Programming failure at its best... (Yes, i have this problem right now and am enervated ;) )

    • @MarcJeuken
      @MarcJeuken 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      For exact numerical input use the pie graph tool and cover it with a mask. Alternatively you could expand the graph and add a smaller cirkel inside the pie graph and then join them into a compound path (which works like the voids in a font character).

    • @amphreded
      @amphreded 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Use the pie chart tool, input number, then mask the shape into donut

  • @Worshipbetter
    @Worshipbetter 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is there a way to make these charts and add variables to make the percentage adjust? In other words designing this differently but producing the same results to be data driven on a website?

    I am making a progress bar, which will be 1% to 100%, here is my questions:
    1. how to make sure the percentage (like 61% instead of 62% or 63%) ?
    2. once I finished one, how to reproduce many others with different percentage?
    thx!

  • @VanCamelCat

    Ok but... Is it possible to animate it within Illustrator?
    Or at least to create it within Illustrator and then animate that same Illustrator-created progress bar in a different software like InDesign for example?

    Hey, love your videos! Quick question, for some reason I'm not able to apply gradient on to the stroke, it automatically changes it to fill though I've selected no fill multiple time... any idea why this might happen? Best, M

  • @SoldierofHope
    @SoldierofHope 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi! Great tutorial - thank you very much! I am running into an issue however - whenever I add the necessary anchor point on the copied circle, it expands the shape into a slightly larger version of the original so that when I move the segment back over the original circle, it doesn't exactly line up. Any idea what might be causing that?

    • @Ashleighplummer
      @Ashleighplummer 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      What worked for me was aligning the stroke to center. Click the stroke option and find the 'align stroke to center'. Hope this helps.

  • @davepit
    @davepit 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm on an older version of Illustrator, I am at the part of your tutorial where you add the gradient. For some reason the gradient will only apply to the fill and not the stroke. Any ideas?

      You can try animating it using Adobe Animate, you wont be putting it into an actual website but you could visualize it.

    • @shavebowl663
      @shavebowl663 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This was really good, but I too thought it was going to have action to it, moving around in a circle. I've been searching for a tutorial on how to do this. For example, if you look at BeardBrand youtube videos, their intro has a circle that goes around the logo. I'm guessing there is a way to do it using photoshop timeline, but I'm not sure. Let me know if you find anything on it.

    What does making it Global do?

    • @ForeverDansky
      @ForeverDansky  8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +TurboJaques Hey there! If you select 'Global' in the swatch options, any time that you update the swatch (at a later date), it will update every instance of that swatch within the document. For example, if you create a logo that is entirely blue, and decide you want to make it red, rather than changing all the different elements of the logo, just update the global swatch, and all blue in the document will turn to red. If that makes sense? :)

    • @TurboJaques

    Hi - I'm trying to follow the steps, however when I use the selection tool to remove my percentage piece from the second circle it comes up "shape expanded" like yours but it gets bigger so I can't get it to fit over the original shape perfectly - I'm using the lastest CC2017 version....do you know what is coursing this? It's driving me insane.....

    What exactly is the point of this unless you can actually use it in an animation??? Does anyone use a static progress bar...and if it's static you can hardly call it "progress"...

  • @ennykraft
    @ennykraft 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    That was painful to watch. No idea why over 2K people gave it a like. You simply clicked somewhere to create that extra point without any concern of your percentage. That's highly inaccurate. And there is no need to that short extra piece. Just adjust the gradient on the stroke.
