You’d be happy upgrading from a C class coupe but I think E class coupe owners might be disappointed.
Right there, there used to real coupés with no b-pillar.
@@kenneth61 Doesn't have the presence of the E Class Coupe with its fat hips.
we are disappointed lol
Exactly this. I really wanted the next gen e class coupe, but this feels like a compromise I’m not willing to make
May as well resort to s-class coupe if you’re willing to spend £60k and can cope with expensive mpg
They should’ve made a new e-class coupe.. this new cle seems small
Let’s be real here for a second. It’s a C Class coupe. Shape, size and proportions from the previous gen W205 (it even shares the same greenhouse). Not a bad thing since the W205 is stunning, but this ain’t an E Class. Even the interior is exactly the same as the current gen C Class. What we got is a C class priced as an E class. Greedy practices but at least we got a new straight six.
I get your point but the size is the old E-Class Coupé
Completely agree, I have a 2019 C-Class Coupe which is great, but this just seems like an updated version of that car, albeit just larger. The only saving grace is the 450 spec option for those that don’t want to spend crazy AMG money for the 53. I feel sorry for existing E-class coupe owners as this is not an upgrade for them at all. I would seriously look at one of the last E-Class coupe’s as my next car as I can’t really see the value of this CLE at the moment. C-Class replacement at E-class money.
Always enjoyable to listen to Steve Sutcliffe. No sideways today, but then again, he was on a public road 🙂
No the interior is not "extremely well made." I currently drive a current gen E400 coupe and have spent time in the 206 c-class. The new C/CLE interior is unacceptable garbage. Putting aside for a second the ubiquitous corporate components like the piano black surrounding the seat controls and the capacitive buttons (both of which are inexcusable trash), this interior is not even befitting of a Honda from 15 years ago. The hard plastics on the bottom of the dashboard, doors, and the center consoles shouldn't be in any Mercedes, never mind a higher end one. I will say that the MBUX software is excellent, and the matte faux leather at the very top of the door panels does feel great. The CLE, hypothetically for E-coupe customers as well, should have received slightly upgraded materials and an option to delete the piano black center console (c.f., designo interiors of old). Anyway, its a downright shame that they didn't improve the luxury of the C-class this generation. When the 204 and 205 C-classes came out, the A/CLA was not really a viable option because it was so bad. Since those cars have decent interiors for the price, the 206 C-class should have moved upmarket. I see no reason to go for the C over the CLA in the current iteration except for space. The interior quality is the same notwithstanding the price disparity and access to features. Further, the CLA is lighter, gets better mileage, and doesn't have that awful brake pedal calibration. I understand last-gen Mercedes had quality issues (squeaks and creaks) - some of the lower quality in this gen could have been forgiven if they put together better. However, these things are just as bad, if not worse. Overall, I prefer the design language of the prior gen MB, citing the w222 S class, w213 E class, and GT4-door as some of the pretties interiors ever. I would not feel so strongly about the new design language all their models if they got rid of the capacitive touch and piano black. I have heard they might be solving this in the facelifts of each of these. For now, if I needed a new car, I would simply buy an 8-series or last gen MB. I am completely writing off the CLE as it is not a replacement for the E-coupe, but a long C-coupe with more access to features.
🏆 🏆 A C class marketed as E!
@@tyfabz and priced like one☝️
I'm not reading all that.
@@mrgt3201ur type of human being that shouldnt exist on this planet. Theres absolutely no hope for u guys, u guys need to be shipped off to a different planet.
I continue to be disappointed by manufacturers making their screens look like aftermarket add ons. Mercedes are by no means the worst these days, the older models looked very much like somebody forgot the infotainment system and had to bulk buy a load of Tesco Hudl devices, but nearly every manufacturer now is just putting huge screens on the outside of the dashboard with very little thought about the aesthetic.
I know I'll have to get over myself one day, but right now I just can't bring myself to buy a new car because the interiors irritate me too much.
More Steve please.
I have a C Class Coupé and this is a new C Class Coupé. For E Class owners it might be a downgrade!
Looks nice but should be £45-50k. £60k is ridiculous.
Might as well get a 2024 C43 AMG for the same price lol.
You pay E-Class Coupe for a C-Class Coupe in the size of an E-Class Coupe. Ehmm nope, its bad.
It's a nice LWB C Class
Looking forward for the AMG version. I heard its gonna be over 600hp. Amazing car.
What´s significant for a coupé? For me it´s two doors and no b-pillars. Coupés are a washed out category, everything is coupées nowdays with a sloopy roof. The worst of them SUV coupés!!!
It's about the same size as the old C Class Coupe so smaller than the old E Class Coupe. I think all they've done is improved the interior refinement of the C Class Coupe tbf.
it's longer than the E-Coupe and just as wide.
So they took what should’ve just been the C class coupe, and magnified it by 1.5x (price as well). Only saving grace of this thing is that I6
Such a great review.
The Sir David Attenborough equivalent of automotive world.
Keep it up my gear-head bro 🎉
Looks like my wife’s 2021 CLA 200 which is brilliant all round, looks fantastic and nearly half the price….think we will stick with it…
Please review the cabriolet!
I’d rather go for an old s-class coupe/convertible
Every other review I've watched of this car was of the six-cylinder version. On the one hand it's good to have a review of one of the fours. On the other hand, I would have expected the great Steve Sutcliffe to have reviewed the six if given the choice, especially as the six has supposedly been made available due to customer resistance to the ditching of V8s in favour of hybrid fours. Mercedes don't seem to have allowed journalists enough time to review more than one engine variant. Whatever the reasons, I don't think this is a good way to launch a car, and most journalists haven't even mentioned the engine range in their reviews. Mercedes can see comments herein that show that some people think this is only available as a four and are comparing it (unfavourably) to BMW's six-cylinder offerings.
Interior is too dark - needs a pano roof. Would be better with a naturally aspirated V6 or V8. There have been better coupes with better engines from yesteryear. Hybrids have spoiled the purity of a traditional driving experience, as have touchscreens that are just fingerprint magnets instead of more sensible buttons and dials that do a better and safer job.
Pano roof = weight , extra squeaks ,extra maintenance drama, added expense, a retractable shade will never look as nice as a well made headliner and added strain on the air conditioning. All so you can read a book in the back seat during the day. No thanks.
Thank you but it’s a coupé, not a coop (as in chicken)
Steve is just the best. Was great in his autocar days. He and Chris Harris should do top gear with Jodie Kid. The Merc looks a great car but what a crazy price.
Interested to see how the cle220d gets on as I'm sure that'll be the big seller.
comparison with M4 coupe side by side please..
Please bring cabriolet version review with V6 as well ❤
The 6 cylinder variants are straight 6
I enjoyed watching the Video. The best Auto Express Video Reviewer 😊
If they don't bring back the v8 in the amg version bmw definitely will be better
I was excited about this car coming out.. but after what I saw they did with the fake exhaust. It kind of turned me off… so now I’m out
BMW 440i, M4, Audi S5 and RS5 are all cars I’d pick over this…
Don't they all cost more? You are in AMG territory with some of them
You’ll observe that it wasn’t driven on our appalling road surfaces.
Surely the new AMG GT is the true fitting end to the ICE era of Mercedes, not so much the CLE? Anyway, a lovely a car nonetheless.
Great review
60k - 6.9 to 100kmh - khmm - skip
So, a "D class"?
Why did Mercedes put a lawnmower engine in the CLE Coupe?
Because they wanted to offer a "cutting-edge" driving experience! 🚗💨🌱🤣
New Infiniti q60 especially from rear
no hyperscreen nonsense hooooorraaaaayyy!
I laughed at the fool who pay $60k + for a 2.0L car
It’s 119k in Ireland 😂😂
Ur clearly clueless about cars. There was some legendary good sounding small 4 cylinder engines in history, like the cosworth 190e, alfa romeo giulia, s2000, miata, all easily worth 60k+. This is not one of them but doesnt mean they dont exist.
@@Sideways_Singh
Not talking about sound, the size. you’re the kind of ppl who will pay 50k+ for a FWD car …..lol it’s your money
@@davidphanh clearly u dont understand the subject ur speaking on. Every car I named is rwd, ive owned over 20 cars all rwd, only rwd. I have a 9 car collection all rwd. Never speak on a subject u have no knowledge of. I wouldnt own a fwd car or even a awd car if someone paid me. That does not change the fact that there have been legendary small engine in the past, like the Honda K-series in Lotus Elise S1, n the other cars I've named, which are all rwd. The S1 Elise has only gone up in value n is over 80k for a good one, mid-engine rwd masterpiece known as the pinnacle of fun and driving. Kid get some sleep or something, dont embarrass urself by replying to someone who breaths cars since birth.
Sure it is nicer to drive than the legendary b58 engine in a M440? Come on lets call a spade a spade and move on. The worst is a 2l in a c63s that no one ask for… yeah petrol era is about to end? Look at those with range issue now in california😂
Not sure I’d want a car I spent £50k+ to be described as… nice…
Sounds very middling….
I can't but notice the ugly rear light bar.
I would so much buy this if didn;t have the B-pillar...... why mercedes why..
Well that's very promising. I'm not sure if Mercedes ever really recovered from the DaimlerChrysler malaise but this is a silver lining.
Whats the daimler chrysler malaise?
Things like the ML and the W203 and the like.
£60k 🤣🤣🤣
2024 or 2023 ?
Where's discount Russell brand 😂
The sooner the iPad instrument cluster fad dies out, the better. It looks so cheap and uninspired.
Eh, this is a weak showing from MB just like their most recent trends. The interior is all plastic, it lacks physical buttons and controls. Why would you pay for a C class interior at E class prices? It just doesn’t make sense. The E class customers wanted more sportiness; they wanted the twin turbo V8 from the previous E63S. They want a proper AMG car with a V8, that’s what they wanted. They didn’t need an F1 style hybrid power train, nor did they want it. MB used to have legendary reliability but since 2005, that has dropped like a rock in a pond and is quite frankly pathetic today. When the screen inevitably breaks after the warranty expires, you’ll have to replace the entire thing to the tune of $10,000. The haptic buttons on the steering wheel, on an MB, pathetic. Plastic buttons, failure on the part of MB. Evidence of cost cutting is clear across the board. Just get the Audi, they give you physical buttons that won’t break. Total waste of money on this car.
Audi is totally outdated with its current technology…..
Looks like a Q60 to me :(
Where is the V8?
looks like a honda accord coupe
Sorry but BMW put out the perfect coupe via the G42 M240xi.
Year 2024 NO sequential turn signals....Hey Mercedes
Lights are very boring and back windows don't GO DOWN. I'm owner C coupe and this is more replica... have a nice day from Europe
Watch and learn children. That's how to review a car!
A Mercedes coupé with B-pillar is not a Mercedes coupé. So no.
You ever catch a c class driver looking in your e class coupe? 😂That’s how this car came about smh
That car is trash compared to the new E-Class (a real E-Class)
So disappointing
Mercedes Benz you’re better than this
My E coupe is far more better and bigger than this car!
Boring car. More Steve, please!
looks so boring...
The most boring looking coupe ever
B pillars suck and way under powered
Front is grat but that rear is pretty ugly.
