Gratitude is the remedy to greed, envy, entitlement, anger, etc. It's difficult to cultivate the gratitude attitude, but oh my, it is so needed in order to be a joyful person in a fallen world!
New Year’s Eve 9:30 PM in New Mexico. Gratitude is everything. I realized that the reason why I would get angry at my husband was not because I did so much for him and I felt like he didn’t do much for me. It was the fact that he wouldn’t write in appreciate me he didn’t even notice all of the ways that I made his life more comfortable and enjoyable it was seeing gratitude and lack of appreciation that bothered me so much. Until listening to this well, I mean, I figured it out. You know a few years back, but I’ve been married 50 years. it’s such a relief to know that that was why my problem was not feeling appreciated. Can you imagine how God feels? What do you think how we feel and then ponder on it.
One of my favorite teachers in high school used to start every class with "thank you God for where we're at, what we're doing, and who we're doing it with." Still resonates with me 9 years later :)
My parents kind of made me do this when I was little. Except I had to do it when ever I complained. They had me think of what was good out of something and then write down in my 'thankful journal.' If I complained I was hot, they would say "aren't you glad we have air conditioning" and I would thank God for giving me a family with air conditioning so I could escape the heat. I am so thankful for the month of tediously caring around that notebook because it changed the way I thought. The amount of joy thankfulness brought to me is immersible.
I need to practice gratitude. I think gratitude cancels envy. If I was thankful for what God has given me, I'd be less envious of others and what gifts God has given them.
I have posted this before on this channel and I'm going to post it again: I remember several years ago one morning after feeling depressed and anxious for months, I said thank you to God with my whole heart. Then something remarkable happened. For the next 12 hours ( the rest of the day) I felt this feeling of indescribable bliss. It was total peace and joy and I was in the best mood I had ever been in. I was also completely in the present moment. It brought me to tears it was so beautiful. My mom was driving my aunt to the airport and I was in the back seat literally staring out the car window at the clouds in the sky, noticing how beautiful they were. Then I remembered that when I was a small child I felt this way all the time. Unfortunately it went away at the end of the day, but who knew a simple thank you could have such a profound effect. Later when I went to mass and I heard "it is our duty and SALVATION always and everywhere to give you thanks and praise", it dawned upon me that THIS is what happens when you are thankful to God, it literally saves your soul. I wish I could feel this way every day.
you opened your heart to God, and he came in :') that's a very beautiful consolation. i suggest praying while remembering that experience and asking God what he wants to teach you through that, how he wants to use that experience to deepen your relationship with him. he wants to give you that experience all the time, just as you'd like to experience it. that experience was a small union with God, like an image of what heaven will be like. have courage and continue marching forward in life with that gift from God as your helmet, to influence your perspective, and the rosary, as your weapon 😄
@@unclemoriarty1436 Thank you for the advice and explanation. I wasn’t sure what to label my experience. “ consolation” was the word I was looking for.
Father mike, I’m not Catholic but I am Christian, I’ve used drugs to cover up my depression for years, it got to the point where I was using lsd to answer my questions in life, it ended when I attempted to take my own life, since then I found god and saw his work within my life. I was an agnostic for so long and I’ve done so many bad things in my life, and I worry about what could’ve happened to my soul if I had died that night. I’m not Catholic but I went to a Catholic school I now identify as a non denominational Christian and I come to you today seeking your forgiveness and seeking gods forgiveness.
Take comfort in the fact that God loves you, no matter what. He is all loving and all merciful and just wants to see is children happy in heaven. I hope that you have found peace. God bless.
Gratitude is the remedy to greed, envy, entitlement, anger, etc. It's difficult to cultivate the gratitude attitude, but oh my, it is so needed to be a joyful person in a fallen world!
I love being around grateful people. Some people can be content with whatever it is in their life. Some people truly do not crave more. I struggle with wanting to be richer, smarter, and more beautiful. I'm so lucky in so many ways that I take for granted. I'm probably blessed in more ways than I notice. Too bad I'm so envious and covetous. It would be so sad to live my whole life miserably because I desire what others have.
@@IONov990 Hey, you've made these confessions which is great, admitting and knowing what you're at fault for. Just a kind and friendly suggestion here. Now, just simply turns to God and ask for His mercy, forgiveness, blessing, and guidance through the Holy Spirit for your daily live/routines. In no time, I'm sure you'll be feeling thankful and grateful every single day. God bless.
Thanks father Mike and thank God and the holy spirit for your holy wisdom and faith and may God guide you in righteousness for directing the faithful people to ways of God and Jesus and the holy family. God bless
My father used to take us to areas in a neighboring city that had some very poor sections. It made us terribly grateful for what we had. I am especially grateful that God gave me two loving parents. Who taught us to be grateful and not be scared of hard work. But the most important thing was love for family, love for neighbor and love for God and Our Blessed Mother Mary. Thank you God !
Now I know the meaning of the Holy Eucharist 😁 Thanks Fr. Mike for your reminder to be thankful always, please pray for us sinners 🙏 God please protect and bless Fr. Mike always. 🕊
I thank Jesus every morning for another day and when something wonderful things that happen I thank Jesus. Oh and say Good Morning Jesus and than say my rosary. Yes I thank Jesus
I started saying thank you for things that were good but I wasn't particularly thankful for. It really changes the way I see these things. I started enjoying things more and be more happy for what I have rather than craving for more.
Ever since you talked about this in the homily way long ago I have been giving this advice to so many people. It really does change how we think of our lives . Thank you Father Mike for your wisdom.
I dont know abiut you guys, but it really seems to me, Jesus speaks to me through you Fr. Mike..I THANK GOD FOR EVERYTHING..I MAGNIFY HIM..MAGNIFICAT DOMINUM..
Unthankfulness and ingratitude are the fruits of humility, Fr. Mike; they are what comes out when humility is focused upon in one's life. Thus all forms of self-respect are extinguished and cruelty towards neighbor comes out in man in the process.
Thank YOU Father Mike, and everyone else who is responsible for these videos. Your delivery of the Word and comforting presence have inspired and informed me in my journey to salvation through Christ. God is doing great work through you all.

Gratitude is so vital and what you are saying has been studied many times. Gratitude is in my profession as a Psychological Therapist one of the most underestimated tools. This proves again that so many answers are already in the Bible. Thanks for doing the Bible Podcast. This will help a lot of people and will transform not only a lot of individual people, but it will have a massive effect on their families, friends, communities and with this, we make this world a better place. I am very grateful for this.
Give thanks for all the wonderful blessings in your life and when things go bad.. Thank him for the solutions and his divine intervention in our lives.. That's the way to always be thankful.. 😘
I say thank you to everything. While driving I say thank you for Stop sign, for my steering wheel, for the coming green traffic light. Waking up I thank my water faucet, my toothbrush, my hair brush. These things assist to make our life helpful and they are blessings
Fr. Mike, you words are amazing and always lift me up! I can feel the Holy Spirit in your words and homilies. I gives thanks to you! God Bless you and your family on Thanksgiving 🙏❤.
Fr. Mike, thank you for this video. It is great to be reminded of the importance to be thankful to God for what we have and to create a routine around such an important gesture. That’s so beautiful! I’ll have to remember that
To be thankful, u have to
1) remember what GOD has done for u
2) be humble enough to accept everything is a gift from GOD and not of ur own
