Father Mike Schmitz: "Why Can't We Be Friends?" | SLS18

  • What is one of the most significant obstacles to sharing the Gospel? Is it the fear of being wrong? Is it the fear of getting into an argument? Is it the fear of looking stupid? While those are often realities in the life of the hopeful evangelist, Fr. Mike argues that the most significant obstacle to sharing the Gospel is the fact that one is not merely called to share the Gospel, but to share their very life, too. The fear of being transparent, the fear of being generous and the fear of integrity all play a part here. After all, it takes authenticity to have authentic friendships. And this is one of the great deficiencies of our time.

Maybe that's the reason so many really gifted people die Young. Never realizing there is someone who has always loved them. Someone who gave them their gifts. Someone who wanted to be their friend always. Thanks Fr. Mike. Always great lessons. You are truly gifted to always know who gave you your gifts to share. God bless.

You can't be a catholic and a Christian ( part of the body of Christ ). Followers of Jesus don't adore a pagan goddess, they don't commit acts of spiritual cannibalism, they don't pray to dead people, they don't heed man made fables ( catechism ) forbidden by the true Bible ( King James Bible ), they don't pray to dead so called 'saints' forbidden by the Bible. All born again believers in Christ are saints, according to the scriptures.
This unsaved showman will lead you to hell. He cannot have the Holy Spirit of Christ because he is a liar and deceiver. He loves himself. True believers don't follow a corrupt, sexually perverted empire of priests, bishops and popes. True believers don't go to satanic shrines to pay homage to so called apparitions from the devil. True believers follow the Lord Jesus Christ alone and obey His Holy word. That will do for now.

I think the expression of the most virtuous friendship in the Bible would have to be that of Jesus and Mary of Magdalene. How powerful and wonderful to have two people of opposite sex. @Roman 2104, Jesus personally invented the Catholic Church, which in turn created the Holy Bible based on the living Tradition Jesus passed on to them, and the Church has been one living (visible) organization from Jesus' day to ours. If you call the RCC false, you call Christ false, since the RCC is the only way by which knowledge of Christ comes to you. (Even if you follow a historically novel Protestant offshoot of Catholicism, everything Protestantism believes in is drawn from Catholicism. It is impossible for Protestantism to stand alone. If Catholicism were to fall, all Christianity would fall--which is why the Holy Spirit has protected the Catholic Church from the moment Jesus created it until now, and will continue to protect it for the preservation of the truth, until the end of the age.

    • @LauraBeeDannon
      @LauraBeeDannon 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Roman 2104 No one worships Mary. #1 lie of protestants. Mary is asked to pray with/for us to GOD. Only God gets worship as taught by the Church. You have many misconceptions.

@PowerTime88 com the Bible is a Catholic book. We know it's the Word of God because the Catholic Church said "this is the Word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit" and has the authority to say so because it was given by Christ Himself. Look up how the Catholic Church came to be and despite many scandals, wars, and the protestant reform she still stands. Why? Because Hell will not prevail over Christ's established Church. He holds it up. And He is in it. Not only spiritually but physically, and He is waiting for you to come to Him in the Eucharist. In John chapter 6 He tells us this, he tells us at the last supper and throughout scripture. Even the Old Testament prophesizes to this. In the book of Revelations we are told the mark of the beast is 666.
Well, in John 6:66 we hear about many of Christ's disciples and followers leaving Him because they can't accept the teaching of the Eucharist

Hello to all, God Bless You Father!. I will try to explain (with my limited English) how this video was sended by the Holy Spirit to me (us). Today I will do a presentation to a church group (all catholic) and the main issue with them, it’s the friendship, the how they can work together to Jesus without killing themself. The point to find the virtuousity of the other person, it’s better than find the common points of view. The example of David and Jhonatan was excellent !! It shows how is the Love into the friendship, that’s the Jesus Love to all of us. God Bless you Father / Dios lo Bendiga Padre. From: Caracas/Venezuela

Thank you, Fr MIke. I was never really proud of saying that I didn't have a lot of friends way back in my youth --- even up to this day --- social media standards (?) --- but I was all right with that. What has mattered most was that I knew what friendships would strengthen my faith, who wanted to have their faith strengthened as well and how we had the same values. I shared your video with my children hoping that they won't feel unloved just because they have only a handful of 'virtuous friendships'. God bless you all the way, Fr Mike!

@Patrick Montgomery, query: I pursued God and Jesus through Protestant (sola scriptura) channels for years, but never found Him. Roman Catholics opened up to me a world of rich and defensible truth, beauty and goodness, and I am now in a relationship with Jesus and yearning to know him better and better each day; I pray more, I am more patient with others, I have more of a backbone and am stronger in proclaiming God's truth and defending the Bible--so do you think Jesus really would not want me to be a Roman Catholic? It is Roman Catholic or non-Christian, for me.... because if I can't trust the Church that wrote the Bible (RCC) I can't trust the Bible itself and be a mere sola scriptura Protestant.
Again, I ask you: do you seriously think that Jesus would rather I turn my back on Christianity entirely, and accept that it is false (since if the RCC is untrue, it IS false) and pursue Hinduism/New Age/Atheism--or would Jesus rather I fall at his feet every morning and evening, as I am doing now, and pray the prayers of the saints, and meditate on the mysteries of Jesus' life through my rosary, and attend my Bible study group to hear from the Holy Spirit through scripture, and worship him every Sunday at mass, and pray for my brothers and sisters and the whole world to look to Jesus first before all else?
If you would try to chase strangers away from Jesus (by chasing them away from the RCC where they find him) I suggest your father may not be the father of Jesus, but the father of lies and division.

Patrick, Fr Mike is a celibate person, purity chastity and celibacy are one of the greatest virtues a Christian can have in the eyes of God, and speaking the whole truth, radical honesty without half truths or withe lies is also a virtue that is dear to the Lord. Regardless of what your religion is, aim for these two and also loving God.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church defines virtue as "a habitual and firm disposition to do the good."
[1] Traditionally, the seven Christian virtues or heavenly virtues combine the four classical cardinal virtues of prudence, justice, temperance, and courage (or fortitude) with the three theological virtues of faith, hope, and charity. These were adopted by the Church Fathers as the seven virtues. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

I agree with you Tiffany. He is very handsome, indeed! I find that I have to ask God to help me hear this priest's message. I don't want to turn this man into an object of desire. He obviously has a God-given gift. I share something with him. It is passion. It is a passion for Jesus Christ and the words of the bible. If we try to refrain from objectifying men then maybe we, as women, will become more respected for being respectful. It is a difficult task. I do not believe the priest bears a cross for his attractiveness. We all carry crosses. The worst crosses are born by those who live with deformity or disability. This priest is an excellent public speaker. And to be chosen to share the message of Christ, is clearly, God saying how pleased he is in this man and his work.

To love your enemy, it is best to stay away from them. If you love your enemy soulfully, then you won't be around to tempt them into sin. Father said to stay away from the wicked far from the east to the west. Why would he say that and you are supposed to love your enemy? Love is to keep them from sinning against you, it is best to stay away from them so that you will not be the reason for thier sins. Does this make sense to you?

Jesus taught his followers how to share their faith with others. It is by your works, your deeds, and the way you live your life that you share your faith. This is, unfortunately, once again where Protestants have it wrong. Trying to force your belief system on others doesn't benefit anyone. Yes, Catholics went through this phase as well, but long ago outgrew it. Thank God. Model for people a Christ like life. They'll notice that you have a lot of genuine friendships. They'll notice your positive outlook. They'll notice that you spread happiness. They'll eventually ask. That's when you tell them you are a Catholic trying to live a Christ-like life.

That is a talent and gift, but what feels good when you do it? Watching this means you're curious and looking. So often you won't see your talents and gifts because that's largely interpreted by others. This is what leads to imposter syndrome because it's what others think of you and hard to admit to yourself. What does being the best you feel like? Won't this help others see your talents and gifts?

In all love and respect, Catholics preach a different gospel.
Dear Catholic, is it not true that Catholics teach, "Whoever calls upon the Name of the Lord, is baptized Catholic and partakes of Catholic communion MIGHT be saved"? If you are a Catholic, I challenge you to either deny or affirm this doctrine! Yet, no Catholic ever will! They all smokescreen! That is because Paul wrote, "Whoever calls upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved." No, Catholics dishonor apostolic tradition by contradicting the Apostle Paul!
Yet, I met Christ - just by asking! "Ask and you shall receive." I know the Lord and the Holy Spirit abides with me. He bears witness that i am saved (Romans 8.16). Yet, Catholics pervert the simple beauty of the gospel, making it about them! Yet, Jesus Christ is the light of the world.
