You did a very good job of presenting something that you were extremely pissed off about. They indirectly shut down your business, yet you were still professional in your expression. I'm very sorry that they took your store away from you, I really like your channel =(
Dennis If they don't want to sell their product to him then they shouldn't. you can't force a company to do that. if his store can't survive without GW then it's his own fault.
His store focused around products that only they made though charnel. kinda hard to run a gas station if the gas company wont sell you gas?? Gameworkshop Sucks :(
AoS is ridiculously cheap to get into. Especially with the new Start Collecting line. AoS isn't that bad anymore especially with the release of the general's handbook. GW with the new CEO and new outlook on things is really trying to make beneficial changes and are making steps in the right direction.
I disagree. The fixed hit and wound stats on every creature is extremely boring and lazy game design and is a common complaint. Just watch gaming with cooler.
To give an example of store loyalty. When I was first getting into the hobby (Only been playing a few months) I bought my first pack of CSM and the store owner asked me some questions at the register about what Chapter I liked, told him I was really liking the fluff of the Thousand Sons. He asked me to wait a moment, went over to the semi poorly organized racks and found for me a Thousand Sons upgrade pack. Ya its profit for him, but he still took the time to find out what I like and address my needs. He even comes to watch games in the back and give feedback on tactics for people and he will typically try to sell something, but he explains why that unit would be a good choice. I've gone to other stores on occasion and while they have recently had better discounts than him their staff usually sucks. A faceless corporation's online store will never give me that same level of service. Also Matt if you're reading this I'd love to see Thousand Sons vs Necrons as a Narrative Campaign. CSM Robots vs Necrons just seems like it needs to happen.
money wise, yea they are good for now, just like gamesworkshop. but my point was towards how the fans/players feel. like how everything is overpriced for what they get.
oh no, the game right now will be fine its just that no one will play it in 30 years because one it will be over priced and two the story is going no where or its advancing VERY slowly from the 1000 authors.
No idea this channel used to be attached to a storefront. Fascinating. Seven years later and we're seeing entirely virtual tournaments on TTS. I wonder why?
This is devastating. Mini war Gaming has consistently made me want to get back into 40k. The videos produced on this channel actually demonstrate the game, and how much fun it is to play. How can Games Work Shop actually expect its consumers to allow this behaviour. As much as I love the products produced by the company, they need to take major losses this coming year or several years, so they realise that they need outside retailers as much as they need them. I'm sorry to hear that Mini War gaming has to close up shop just because of one Companys Greed. Best of luck in the following months, can't wait to check out your independent project.
Age of Sigmar is a piece of crap game! fantasy was the best in my opinion, haveing Bretonnia, Skaven Tomp Kings and others was the best factions and fun to play..now u play like 4-5 factions and they are all similar to fantasy's but with worst rules..saddly fantasy is dead due to idiots of GW
how do you play 4-5 factions... every fantasy army is usable in AOS plus they're updating all the old armies (rumour has it Karl Franz is being reintroduced)
But you can play all of the old armies from old fantasy in AoS and all the war scrolls and rules are for free online. The only thing you need to pay for now is the Generals handbook because it has the point values of all the models in it. None of the factions from old fantasy are gone, in fact due to AoS GW has more money to make new kits for armies that hadn't been updated in forever. I get it if you don't like how age of sigmar plays and thats perfectly understandable it's a very different game, but you can always play 8th edition fantasy no one isstopping you. Also on your point of fantasy being dead after AoS, thats statistically incorrect. GW released its sales figures and AoS makes up 30% of their income compared to a mere 17% that fantasy made up before AoS came out. AoS honestly is the best move GW could've made. It was either making AoS or getting rid of the warhammer line all together. AoS has easier base rules, is way cheaper to get into compared to 8th edition fantasy and is way more accessible due to rules and war scrolls being free, and over all is just an easier game to play.
When will companies realize there's only so much you can charge for entertainment, and only so many jobs you can cut from it? It's like they forget that unlike utilities and food, people don't actually NEED their product, per say. Sick of everyone that deals with entertainment committing financial suicide, all because they get too greedy and end up with nothing.
I have not bought directly from a Game Workshop store in years. I only buy from my local game shop now. Basically I went into a Games Workshop store and bought a product and then went and watched one of the "Bunker Battles" going on. I did nothing to disrupt the game but I was told to leave the store. Dammed horrible public service to disallow even watching a game!
your videos are the only way i even considered getting into this super complicated game. watching you play and do things like your Beat matt bat rep. really makes comprehending the game easier and makes seeing the big picture possible.
Iknow its too late but well, I got into the warhammer universe thanks to computer games and I'm starting to buy miniatures thanks to you guys, hope everything is still going well
I have always wanted to know why they are so against promoting their own shit. GW is so against making a bigger community. Why is it that GW doesn't have their OWN forums so they can quickly answer questions about rules etc. Help companies like MWG because they ENLARGE the community and get people who dig Warhammer TOGETHER. More people interacting = more fun = bigger community = more costumers. I could go on forever about stuff I wish they would do.
Think of GW operates more like a government they make their own common sense. They use to have forums, where people could get their questions about rules answered but they got rid of it because of arguments and spamming.
rocket5689 GW is just strange, they create the problem and when customers offer feedback on that problem they bury their heads in the sand and accuse the community of attacking them "for no real reason" or portraying that all feedback is toxic or angry which I am sure some of it is, but it still points out that there are issues that need addressing. They will likely sink as a company, they don't believe it but it will happen as their already niche market continues to shrink in the face of market competition and advances in technology that will make producing mini's a cheaper alternative, like the dinosaur music industry they have a choice to make, change with the times and market or become obsolete and extinct.
william brown They used to have a forum, but it got shut down after people started pointing out how illogical some of their practices were, and how their canon was all over the place, etc. etc. etc.
The irony is that via your videos you have promoted games workshop products and helped people understand the details of the games and the products available. I have been wargaming for 40 years and have on occasions avoided buying games workshop products because of their business model which is basically changing their games rules to make something more sellable and make things people have bought less usable. I hop that you continue to provide the brilliant support to gamers that you have so far and please let me know how I can support you.
This is why i cast my own models :3 Also fuk u GW. The last feather that broke this camel's back was when the "new" broadside models were released. I mean, i had made similliar conversions for ages, strapping dual Rail guns to arms to make it rifle-y. Now they made that very same model, but with price tag of 40€/model with at least 3 required to make unit. Jesus. No wonder their last financial report returned with fuckhueg 22% loss in revenues. 22%!!! For a company of their size a loss of 5-8% is dire in normal margin, but 22% means losing one fifth of their total sales. IN 1/4 of financial year!!!! Here we have traditional case of pricing exeeding demand. here we have example: I was in my local game store, painting my selfmade leman russ. I saw when my friend came to store. he asked if they had any of those new Riptides available. Clerk said yes, 65€. My pal said that it't too much, as he was imagining that it would cost max 45€ (as it should, being single model and comparaably badly detailed and sculpted). So no deal. GW tried to draw extra 33% from model, and ended making no money whatsoever. of course there are some who pay no matter how high the prices go, but those players are rare breed and there is limit on how much they can up their prices before players turn to alternatives, like buying "similliar" figures made by other companies like Chapterhouse studios, making their own sculpts or changing figure game alltogether (like warmachine or infinity). Truly the golden age technology for GW was when guardsman unit of 20 was 18£ (i.e, reasonably priced) and their aim was to provide fun, balanced and customer-friendly game. Long speech short, GW blinded themselvels by only seeing the financial reports and upping their prices to no end. Ironically, if they continue this way they eventually will be their own judge, jury and executioner.
***** Definetely right now. The thing is, GW is not in the monopoly state it was before. GW used to have the sweet spot of "cinematic" game, fairly balanced rules and affordable prices (20 guardsman being 20€ for example), but right now it's codex creep (you don't want the old models, you want these shiny new super heavy walkers, 125€/piece, do you want 6?) and riddiculous prices (12 guardsman cost 25€). Also competitors have arisen with cool new models (like infinity and warmachine) and balanced rules (see warmachine/hordes) and comperatively lower prices (1850pts tournament army costs 200-500€/wh40k and 35pts tournament army costs 80-150€/warmachine) to eat GW alive. The way i see GW going is that they eat up what they can from the miniwargamers, then close up the shop or sell it (most likely later, if the GW is at that point worth anything in the stock) and go on with their funds they gained over these years. They feel that with the digital age, the old miniature gaming is dying, or that the 3D-printing will destroy the industry so they are bringing their cash cow to the butchery in order to get the last bit of milk and meat before it dies of old age. Yet they fail to see that miniwargamers have, and will always be, attracted to gathering and painting and physically interacting with their models. No 3D-generated animation can replace the feeling of looking at the model you bought, assembled and painstakingly and time-consumingly painted sitting on your shelf- this is what the miniature collectors and miniature gaming is all about. I have spoken, what say you? Am i wrong?
***** I completely agree with you. I often compare with other miniatures companies and they universally sell their miniatures and their documentations at lower prices and the quality is just as good or even better. Don't get me wrong, I love WH40K, but Games Workshop is reacting in the worse way possible. Less and less people accept to pay like 45 CAN $ for a box of 10 Chaos Space Marines and another 25$ to convert them in Thousand Sons. When I bought my first TS back in the early 2000s, the TS bits (which were in metal) were teamed with the regular marines bits for less. What they should do is dropping their high price policy that was possible because of their monopoly back ten years ago and take their prices down. At first, their profits will go back, but it will convince more people to step in the hobby. Most prospective new players are just discouraged by the high prices and most of their codexes and written stuff are just pirated.
Warhamer116 I agree. I got into WH40K back in 1989 because I could create my own army, paint it my way, style it my way, and then fight with it with my own tactics and strategy. I got out for a while, but finally when I got out of schooling, I dove back in. Too bad the prices had shot up like 33% or more for each set. Being able to create my own army and characters that looked individual was the best thing about the game. Greed has nearly made that impossible. Not every family is making booku bucks to pay $60 for ONE solitary Slann.
I haven't played or bought warhammer since 2004, but even then I thought the hobby was unnecessarily pricey... but jesus christ it's gotten even worse now. Glad I got out of the hobby, I might reconsider if GW change their business plan.
same situation for me. Haven't bought any Warhammer since 2004 or 2005, but I was thinking about getting into it. But it's just too expensive. If I can't find great deals on ebay it's not worth it.
If you still like wargaming you should check out Warmachine. It isn't nearly as pricey as 40k and Fantasy. For example, to get started with 40k you would probably spend: £60 for Dark Vengence starter kit OR £40 rulebook AND £50-£80 battlegroup kit With warmachine you can just spend: £30 for a battlegroup. You now have everything you need.
***** Might want to mention that the Warmachine startergroup tends to between 3-5 models while Dark Vengeance has...50? That's not to say Warhammer is cheap, it's not. But neither is Warmachine, it just asks you to buy fewer models to play. Also, I've never heard of anyone choose miniature game based on price. How much you like it and the people around you can play with tend to be the deciding factor.
***** Sorry, 49 miniatures. And yes, Warmahordes are bigger with the hit boxes and such. I love that mechanic even if it can be horribly random at times.
This video just makes me lean more towards using 2nd hand models, conversions (from outside of GW), and fake GW products. I support MiniWarGaming because its people like you that make the community worth being a part of, its a shame that a corporation with such awesome storytelling skills and products is fundamentally just greedy and evil. Can you please provide more information on the game you are creating?
Even though this video is quite old, I just wanted to say you guys are a big part of what got me to finally play 40k. I've watched close to 50 of your batreps as if I were watching a live sporting event. The fun you guys have, and the way you shoot and describe the games, made it easy for a new player like me to understand the rules. Rather than buy the Space Hulk box like I had intended, I instead purchased my first army (Tau). I am loving the free content so much, I am honestly considering getting a vault membership. You have a great thing going on, with a great crew of dudes. You guys inspired me to get into a new hobby, and quickly became my most followed TH-cam subscription. An honest thank you for all your efforts.
You know what - thanks for saying that at the end of the video. Miniwargaming DID help get me into the hobby. You guys taught me how to play before I made friend who play, as well as helped me decide what team I wanted to buy as well as making it look so fun with such a great community. Thank you for your videos and hopefully GW gets their heads out of their asses... Also - I doubt GW will ever read this, but because of how greedy you guys are, I will never buy a single product from you guys. I am ONLY going to be purchasing used/second-hand models/sprues/bits. I will try as hard as I can to not put any more money in the pockets of these inconsiderate people. Clearly the guys who own GW don't care at all about their fanbase - it's all about money to them.
Yeah, it's terrible. I remember 10-15 years ago, a codex cost about $25 and a basic troop squad was $40-$50. Which is pretty high but not crazy. Now it's $50-$60 for a codex and $70-$80 for a troop squad...
Mat and Dave, I know I'm a bit late to the party with this, but I sincerely wish you the best of luck. You guys helped get me into wargaming as a whole way back when you first opened up the forums and this youtbe channel. It's been a couple of years since I've visited your forums but numerous friends were made and tactics, jokes, and stories shared among the members. You guys helped me grow both as a gamer and as a person. Thank you for all you've done for the community. -a fan and friend
Some months back I mentioned to a GW employee in a UK store that the website seemed to have less on it (mentioning specifically the articles). I was told that when they upgraded it the old articles database was deleted by accident but they were working to recover it. Make of that what you will.
I was very close to spending a couple hundred dollars to start a warhammer 40k army. The miniwargaming battle reports are a big reason I almost got into the game. I didn't realize their store was shut down due to GW's greed. Now there's no way I'm buying warhammer.
Jeremy Lavoie I actually considered getting into Warmachine or Hordes because of how ridiculously expensive Fantasy and 40K are... but they aren't even close to as interesting or fun as Warhammer. There's nowhere near the amount of variety or customization - and certainly nowhere near the awesome lore of the Warhammer universes. However if you enjoy Warmachine, more power to you. I need a game that's actually strategic and extremely customizable though.
- spazz - No it is not the only reason. The faction starter sets for 40k will cost $300-$500+, Then there are codexes that are $50 each with some factions like the grey knights getting split into 2-3 codexes. Then the core rules which are $85. Also the starting sets do not come with an HQ which is another $20-$25+. Where with warmachine you can get an all in one army box for under $200, and your set. Heck if you are starting with the base battle boxes, you can still get all that factions competitive models for under the price of starting 40k.
You know, it's a funny thing. I've been a fan of this hobby for a long time. I've not been a big spender, typically only buying a handful of models here and there(typically Games Workshop products) over the years, not being able to afford to go as crazy as I'd like to. And now, after my financial grounds change and I end up with some disposable income, a video like this appears in my feed, and it really makes me hesitant to want to throw any of my dollars and support toward a company like GW based on their practices. I agree wholeheartedly; their models are fantastic, and their name does things to help grow the hobby. But based on their business practices and treatment of independent retailers, I don't know that I'm prepared to send them a dollar.
Most of the gaming shops are creepy environments with anti-social guys behind the counter. I hate em. I loved the hobby but hated all the creepy owners.
Heh, I could totally see that being the case; interestingly though, both of the game stores in my area usually have a female staffer behind the counter. I must be lucky. :D
That is a very broad and poor generalization, every game shop I have been in has had nice, clean and very sociable owners and staff. I haven't met any "Creepy" or "anti-social: owners though I don't doubt some stores may have them. Just keep in mind that not all stores fall under your broad strokes :) I hope you find some shops with better staff!
I feel sick to be a british person with this video. Hi MWG i'm 32 an indie author from wales uk love watching you batreps best on youtube by far, good commentary and camera. You even made me feel like playing the game again, i have orks, eldar and grey knights but wanted to try something different i settled on a slaanesh daemonette army. Then i looked up the prices and thought bugger that, when i stopped a while back they said they were making the plastic minitures to decrease cost and help get armies now a box of ten models is £18.50 it's supposed to be a hobby not a gold investment. It's far to dear to do as a middle aged man these days so i'll just have to watch your vids i guess was a decent painter too. Once more sorry for the shit way GWS has treated you
The Lads Lounge! I remember when 10 plastic miniatures came in a small box for a fiver. Went in the store just before Christmas and it was about empty. Never used to be like that before they got greedy.
MiniWarGaming 100% got me into war gaming, specifically the 40K hobby. Not only that it also got two of my closest friends into it as well. Your How To Play videos and BatReps were indispensable, especially when I was starting out. MinWarGaming, I salute you.
I did buy miniatures and scenery from MWG and the local retailer and it was awesome. Now because of the price difference in the EU and because I also need to pay shipping of the stuff from GW, I just can't do it anymore, it's too expensive. Although there are other ways like cheap casts of existing GW WH40k miniatures which I did and will cast myself from the moulds I made from the original models, I can also buy these things from illegal chinese markets. The market itself if extremely risky for those who cast the miniatures but when one site is shut down by GW, another one arises and gets another month or two to sell properly and it's probably the same company, different site and host. I won't buy directly from GW ever because it's way too expensive and because MWG had to close their store, the youtube channel and forums which actually brought me to buy and play WH40k. Cheers!
Aaron Alegria not yet, and I'm sure those who have 3D printers know this, but if they're willing to sacrifice quality for sheer quantity, then I think those people are willing to do it, especially for mere pennies, for a figure instead of a few dollars. I know if I had a 3D printer, I would print an army out and play and I wouldn't really care too much about the quality, since that's only going to get better and better as the quality of printers goes up.
+Skeptical Chris I remember people saying the same thing about computers, ebooks, etc. Computers = goodbye print! Ebooks = Goodbye books! Self publishing = Goodbye publishing houses! Companies are better at adapting to change than you imagine.
After not playing warhammer for many years, I stumbled across your videos and was enthralled by the passion and spirit you put into these videos. By showing me what I've been missing all these years, you guys got me to pick this game back up after about 14 years since I last played. As you say, Games Workshop only harm themselves by these steps backwards. Not just this, but they do disservice to those who have been loyal to their brand and done more for attracting new customers (and old) then they could ever hope to (evident by such shallow vision they put on display with these moves). That's what makes this not just greed ridden and petty, but incredibly sad.
Damn .... This is ... I have no words for this. I'am not even sure this is a good strategy on the short term, and I'm not even talking about the long term if GW keep things like this. Just when they were doing things right to not totally looks like money grabbing opportunist ...
I know I'm replying to an ancient comment, but I'm curious what you think of GW's 'new' approach to things, bringing back old systems, the on demand orders, etc.
I live 50 miles from the nearest (unsupportive) store and 70 miles to the biggest store in my area. I AM NOT spending the gas money to go back and forth just to go to the stores and I'm not going to buy directly from war gaming because this is ridiculous. So my only choice is to go to Ebay and other places as such.
Heck, I live about 15 minutes from a store before they moved and discontinued carrying the product because of the changes in the GW company policy and the rising cost for minis that were not better, just more expensive. e-Bay became my store, too. Lets hear it for inexpensive minis!
I want to get into the hobby, and I am only now with Mark3 warmachine/hordes.I come from a heavy RPG. and board gaming background. Read rulebooks for games I will never play. Like games workshops games. Especially knowing they have a great history in the box, poor dealings. I liked the Warhammer fantasy RPG but I got that second hand. The games workshop we had by willow Brook mall Houston TX. the employees were unhelpful rude I can't imagine why they are not still there. I was a sure sale, I thought wow this is a great location, and will get a lot of foot traffic being near movie theater entrance, window shoppers sure but potential. Knowing full well the visit would cost me a minimum of $50, I'm excited by colors I know this, just stand back and let me sell myself. These boxes are designed by marketing focus tested it's all there. I wanted to see it as a game. Hell they had tables with people playing let that do the talking. The employee said fuck that noise and wouldn't stop pestering me from the second I walked in. I answered him no I was interested in the hobby, just kind of looking.. let him know I was going to watch the people play what can only be described as an epic battle. He gave me a minute to watch before he asked to take a look and see what I wanted today, so much about stop looking at the painted models on the table being played to the wall behind me of boxed unpainted merchandise that I said look I'm sure you get a lot of kids acting up, and people just wondering what the hell this is, but you need to shut up, shut your mouth and let me see at least one players turn, I don't know if I am interested in the game you see, I had intentions to get a box of dwafs or humans because you can always use them in a role playing game. The other people were playing unbothered and I wasn't standing far enough away that I am sure that they wouldn't mind I watched. The guy sighs and said we don't have anything for the role-playing game there's no money just pencils and dice You need to go Move it. -PAUSE- What transpired next is an act of aggression I am not proud of and I wish hadn't happened, I'm not a violent person. I have only been in 3 fights in middle school as defense. BUT DIS SUMBITC needed his butt whooped, because maybe parents never did. Plus he ruined my naive excitement about joining a hobby with a location near me so that when he reached up and touched me when he said move it I hit his jaw sending the first real blood those armies ever saw across the table. I turn around and on the way out stopped just to knock over a magazine rack. I am not one to associate one employee to the image of a large company but this was different this is a level of customer service that forever insured I wasn't one. so F you games workshop! f you and if you're a gamesworkshop employee from Houston TX who ever got knocked out and had to clean up magazine's after- Fffffffuuhuhhuck you
Well done. Smart, well constructed and logically persuasive. It seems like you really appreciate your fanbase and value their custom. You guys rock and I'd be sad to see you guys stop doing videos
We cant have 40k without GW. Its like dating the girl of your dreams but her friend is a fucking nightmare. Either you ditch both or deal with the shit. And were all fucking nerds so its not like we'll be dropping relationships anytime soon.
Brandon Pack Screw GW !!!! For just 1 GW army you can get: 1. X-Wing miniature game - army 2. Bolt Action army 3. Infinity starter box ... In the same time. All those games got far better rules, all those companies are great and they care about customers.
When GW flops, it will sell the 40k brand to someone. That someone will probably have better practices or at least know that the fans won't tolerate bad ones.
Games Workshop has changed ...for the bad, they screwing their customers screwing their friends and screwing the people that try and sell their product, I'm buying Mantrics minatures, Deadzone and Dead Ball especially. Screw Games Workshop. Heartless capitalism.
Best wishes to the MWG crew, thank you for your tremendous amount of time spent on all of the videos ya'll have made. Your people and company will be missed.
So on one hand Game workshop is saying people are worried about privacy which is stopping them from buying and so people will trust our website because WELL well we have no real reason but we say that were trustworthy BUT!!!!!! at the same time in the same document!!!!!!!!!! they are saying we want everyone to buy from us so we can track everyone so they are LITERALLY saying they to want to track online activity and with everyone by us having an exclusive site (which is the opposite of giving people their privacy) GAME WORKSHOP ALL YOU HAVE DONE IS MADE IT CLEAR THAT IF YOU WANT PRIVACY DON'T!!! BUY FROM US
I just discovered this Video today, :( . So I missed the sale. :P . I got into the game in 2000 but stopped playing because of the price of models, and when I moved in 2008, there was a store about 15min away but it closed and now I would have to drive about 50mi or so for the next store (assuming it's there) so GW is really hurting itself as now Nintendo and Steam get my money instead of them. :P (Thanks to the 3DS)
not a wargaming player or fan. but find this very interesting. i have heard nothing but bad things about games workshop and their business practices. but obviously it is successful as they are the brand name in wargaming and many other companies have fallen by the wayside as being unable to compete with them.
success full -_- liverpool westfield gamesworkshop closed down , macarthur square gamesworkshop closed down , parramatta WILL close down , because games work shop sucks
yea , thats how poor they are , they think just because they put the price high to rip people of with plastic , they will buy it, but guess what they are the dumn ones there store are fked and gonna shut down world wide , ill party and laugh soooooo soooo hard when they will shut down.
GW is overpriced and has a terrible business model. I have read the books and whatnot for years, only recently have I decided to start playing. I will not be buying a single model from GW until they stop being ridiculous. E-bay ftw!
This is why some online stores opened up Branches for different countries and offering a choice of currency on the different sites even though they are for a different country so that they could avoid some of those rules
Funny that in the meantime there are 3d printers that could do pretty detailed models (especialy vehicles or monstrous creatures are easy to print) and yet their price has skyrocketted... Also srsly why is the rulebook and codices so fucking expensive when they did new edition after 2 years :P Sry, but I am pirating the books :(
Garcia Romero jaja tu conquista si vos hubieras estado con los putos conquistadores te cagas del miedo jajaja y tu bandera me la paso por el culo literalmente anque a veces me siento mal por la mierda que toca ese pedazo de bandera =)
I agree with this, I live in the mountains and don't have any local gaming stores near me for MILES! and I only buy things online and I only play with friends I live near, and I LOVE watching your X-Wing reviews and games on here and it helped get me to buy more expansions.
I really wanted to get into epic scale. There was a sweet Tyranid army. Then 6 months later they came along and where like "herp a derp. Throw all your armies and books and shit out. We are changing the rules 150% and rescaling the miniatures by just enough to make your old ones USELESS" and out pops Epic 40k. And the minatures after the rescale, especially for Tyranids looks like SHIT. I am proud to say that not nickel of mine has EVER passed GW's way. Fuck those guys. There are hobbies, even war game hobbies with miniatures that don't require you to deal with complete assholes like that who as soon as you buy your $5000 army will be looking to shake you down for another $5k by setting your "old" one on fire.
Huh, looks like the last pillar is coming close to toppling. Maybe GW will finally open their God damn eyes. Or maybe, and sadly more likely, this may indeed be among the last days of the Imperium. Regardless, it's a hobby I just can't afford, nor can I promote anymore.
when I lived back home before moving to London for work my local hobby shop was a great place to get bits and allowed you to browse with out being pestered for buying stuff," what you in for how about getting this as well and please sign here so we own your soul and that of your children as well"
Now that it has been just about two years since close of MWG Stores I would love to hear your "update" on how its gone and where your focus is going forward. Love everything you all are doing at MWG!
Are you still going to do the 40k history videos? I've enjoyed listening the lore behind all the Space Marine Chapters along with the different xeno races (hoping you'll do a Tau video soon).
I realize this is years after this video but I have been watching your channel and your videos and have actually wanted to get into warhammer. Tbh I’ve been to a gameworkshop store near me and it was small and the feel wasn’t hey come get involved in this life changing game, I felt pressured and not in a comfortable environment like a shop like yours would provide. And it’s not until I stumbled across this channel that sparked my interest. Once again I realize this is way later but thanks for the videos at least.
The closest GW where I live, is 30km away. The comic stores are stocking less and less. I have to buy my models online. I used to do this through discount sites. But I have found that those can create a lot of problems. It takes weeks for your stuff to get there, and it is often not even the complete order. So now, when I order on the GW webstore, I order un Sunday and have my complete order by thursday. That is very impressive.
I love how accurate you prediction was at 24:30. When this came into effect GW saw a 85 point increase in there stock followed by a -300 point drop right after. Trying to strangle the market for sales is NOT a good business plan.
I'v only been lurking for a few weeks, and love watching your videos. If I ever get into this amazing life consuming hobby, i'll be able to say it was because of you guys. Both Matt, crew, plus a pretty chill community in the comments. Thanks Mycroft Wells for the insight. Is that name a Sherlock reference?
I recently started looking into the Warhammer and Warhammer 40k universe as a great source of inspiration for art and lore, to help inspire me creatively as an artist. I found myself becoming interested in the game side of things after watching some of the hilarious battle reports you guys produce. If anything please keep making videos as your group of people are very entertaining and talented, I especially the lore history readings and panting tutorials. Keep it up all the best for the future.
Strange that a company put out these sale rules, it just cost money and lower sales. I used to work in the car sales/repairing business in Europe. Before 2008 crash the car manufacturer had all these rules about what signs should be where on the retailers building where I worked, and how high up they should be and a long list of stupid requirements. When the crash came all those stupid requirements went away and there where suddenly only one thing on the list and that was to sell cars so they and we would survive.
They closed the Games Workshop around my area a few years ago before I could get into the hobby. I found your channel, and remembered my small Tau Army. I was considering starting again buying online, but it looks like that's not going to happen for a while now. :/
I know a certain online retailer that is still selling GW stuff online. How can that be? I thought the new agreement meant all online sales were to stop even for brick and mortar stores.
Just signed up for vault membership, and want to say that I am on your side. I am just getting back into 40k - played Space Marines as a kid, going CSM this time - but I have no intention of supporting GW's disgusting business practices by purchasing from them. Luckily I'm in Europe and can still order online from independent retailers. Your videos have given me so much inspiration, and you are largely responsible for me wanting to get back into this rewarding hobby. Thanks Matt, Dave and MWG!
If it wasn't for Matt and Miniwargaming, I would never have come back to this hobby. I started when I was 8 years old, and never understood the game properly. 20 years later, I am hooked again because of MWG and the quality of their batreps and excellent explaination of the complex rules. I work for a small family business that was interested in stocking GW products in Belgium, and after reading through their T&C's for becoming a stockist, had a very good laugh with the CEO of our company.
This was a great explanation. I'm in online sales myself and I think I understand. Plus I think you made the right decision. I sincerely hope you get the people in the vault to keep up your work. Good luck!
I'm sorry this all happened. It is true that it was not MiniWarGaming that got me into the hobby, but you guys helped deepen my liking of Warhammer 40k with your videos. So thank you :)
GW made it so hard to get into Warhammer 40k as a new player. I had to jump through hoops to figure out where to get this stuff. It's like some kind of black market. Finally located a GW shop where I live
Well said, as a business owner (not wargames products) myself in New Zealand (who as you stated get hammered by GW's outdated currency calculations) I found your video very informative, reasoned and fair. Games Workshop have made me sad with this move - I see nothing but Corporate speak, Corporate Bulls**t and the typical "lets talk down to these people after all they are all morons" that Corporates do so well. Games Workshop is not Sony or Apple or even Leggo - the ridiculous reasons they state make them look arrogant and pompous they have forgotten where they came from and who there customers are. I am seriously thinking about my future with Games Workshop - which is a shame as they make wonderful products - what they need is a buyback from employess or suchlike to get rid of the board and shareholder mentality and put someone like, well you for example in control who knows the market. knows what we want and is passionate about it. Good luck - I hope you continue to grow and prosper despite the way your being treated.
I used to collect for a year and a half and go to my local GW store everyday and buy at least £50s worth of stuff a week... then their policy changed to book ahead to use painting tables, for your newly bought products only... whilst having two tables available for painting lessons at all times which nobody ever had but couldn't be used by regulars... and their empty tables weren't allowed for gaming anymore.
I bought my very first army of black templar space marines out of a small hobby shop near my college, though point wise it was only an 800 pt army it was enough to captivate me , and drive me to buy more , because the size of the hobby shop I was in most of my key prices into army were purchased online with help from other enthusiasts. When i saw miniwargaming I subscribed instantly craving to learn more about this amazing world that is warhammer 40k ... You will be missed miniwargaming
I had never heard of WH40k but after I stumbled across your batrep videos I suddenly saw a game I could enjoy, I only got the "Assault on black reach" set but I love it I spent about 2 months on just my dreadnaught...you have all given me something to enjoy, thank you matt...Games Workshop contributed to the shut down of a store in my local area too.
You did a very good job of presenting something that you were extremely pissed off about. They indirectly shut down your business, yet you were still professional in your expression. I'm very sorry that they took your store away from you, I really like your channel =(
Dennis
If they don't want to sell their product to him then they shouldn't. you can't force a company to do that.
if his store can't survive without GW then it's his own fault.
His store focused around products that only they made though charnel. kinda hard to run a gas station if the gas company wont sell you gas?? Gameworkshop Sucks :(
I wonder what will come sooner, the end of the world, or when GW lowers the price of something
Start Collecting Boxes, Gave out a whole $28 model for free
+hudhouse99 the fantasy boxes have even better deals, shame about AoS though
AoS is ridiculously cheap to get into. Especially with the new Start Collecting line. AoS isn't that bad anymore especially with the release of the general's handbook. GW with the new CEO and new outlook on things is really trying to make beneficial changes and are making steps in the right direction.
I disagree. The fixed hit and wound stats on every creature is extremely boring and lazy game design and is a common complaint. Just watch gaming with cooler.
obviously you have no idea how to play the game.
" i dont understand this thing, therefore its bad "
watching this in 2018 like "So happy you guys are still around!" :)
We are still making videos/tutorials, so there is nothing to miss in that regard.
I never considered playing a table top game until I found your channel. Thanks.
***** after watching this and reading the comments i feel like they are the new ea of board games.
MrDanno2 because EA is doing soooooo well
money wise, yea they are good for now, just like gamesworkshop. but my point was towards how the fans/players feel.
like how everything is overpriced for what they get.
MrDanno2 i wonder how long it'll last as their games get worse and worse and the war on used games continues
oh no, the game right now will be fine its just that no one will play it in 30 years because one it will be over priced and two the story is going no where or its advancing VERY slowly from the 1000 authors.
No idea this channel used to be attached to a storefront. Fascinating.
Seven years later and we're seeing entirely virtual tournaments on TTS. I wonder why?
They reopened a while back, their store is in my town
This is devastating. Mini war Gaming has consistently made me want to get back into 40k. The videos produced on this channel actually demonstrate the game, and how much fun it is to play.
How can Games Work Shop actually expect its consumers to allow this behaviour. As much as I love the products produced by the company, they need to take major losses this coming year or several years, so they realise that they need outside retailers as much as they need them.
I'm sorry to hear that Mini War gaming has to close up shop just because of one Companys Greed. Best of luck in the following months, can't wait to check out your independent project.
GW's stock price is about $50 less per share than from the time this video was uploaded! :-)
No more Tomb Kings either. Its shitty.
Age of Sigmar is a piece of crap game! fantasy was the best in my opinion, haveing Bretonnia, Skaven Tomp Kings and others was the best factions and fun to play..now u play like 4-5 factions and they are all similar to fantasy's but with worst rules..saddly fantasy is dead due to idiots of GW
just an fyi for coaxill. They are updating Tomb Kings and Bretonnia before introducing them to the new lore.
how do you play 4-5 factions... every fantasy army is usable in AOS plus they're updating all the old armies (rumour has it Karl Franz is being reintroduced)
MWG got me back into the hobby
I'm just buying my models on ebay lol.
PantheraLeoKing i have brought 95% of my army via eBay or gumtree!
@@chrisyc2k I've bought 100%
Today is November 2nd 2013 because of your videos I have gotten into Warhammer 40k I just want to thank you for all you have done for the hobby.
This is why i cast my own models :3
Also fuk u GW.
Am i wrong?
Warhamer116 I agree with you all the way
*****
I completely agree with you.
W Specialist Games like BFG, Mordheim and Epic, the old style school!!
And yes, I agree with you!
It's been a LONG time since I also got some because it's so costly in New Zealand so I pretty much got forced out of it
same situation for me.
For example, to get started with 40k you would probably spend:
£60 for Dark Vengence starter kit
OR
£40 rulebook AND £50-£80 battlegroup kit
With warmachine you can just spend:
£30 for a battlegroup.
We are located in Welland, Ontario.
and 6 years later I see an open MWG Studios store open in my town
Australia always gets the worst prices ;(
Yeah, it's terrible. I remember 10-15 years ago, a codex cost about $25 and a basic troop squad was $40-$50. Which is pretty high but not crazy. Now it's $50-$60 for a codex and $70-$80 for a troop squad...
Doominator99 it’s actually cheaper to book a plane to the uk and buy a warlord Titan there than it is to order it online
-a fan and friend
when i was a kid i thought you guys were Gamesworkshop
I don't even know what a games workshop is and im never buying a games workshop again!
HOW MUCH FOR THAT PHONE?!
Some months back I mentioned to a GW employee in a UK store that the website seemed to have less on it (mentioning specifically the articles). I was told that when they upgraded it the old articles database was deleted by accident but they were working to recover it. Make of that what you will.
So good being in australia, I absolutely love having to pay 85$ for a tactical squad...
85$ for 10 space marines? o_o In Poland tactical squad costs 28$ I love my country :DD
+Pewek ha, next time I head to Poland I'll be sure to pick up some boxes!
+lizardmen98 :D
+Doyle 1001 Eh, who needs military surplus, you can just fly over to Syria and join IS, they seem to have plenty of Saudi "surplus"
+Cosmic Soup Yep and New Zealand is even worse :/
Miniwargaming was the largest reason I got into the hobby
You guys opened my eyes to the world of table top miniature games. Finding this video three years later makes my heart ache. :(
I was very close to spending a couple hundred dollars to start a warhammer 40k army. The miniwargaming battle reports are a big reason I almost got into the game. I didn't realize their store was shut down due to GW's greed. Now there's no way I'm buying warhammer.
Warmachine!
And this is why I think Privateer Press is superior.
DCAMM720 Privateer Press has learned from all the mistakes GW have made. While GW ignores there own mistakes.
DCAMM720 Although you will need to remortgage your house to afford any....
Cracked Rearview What? Have to have any decent amount of money to play either game. And Warhammer is far and away more expensive.
+DCAMM720 The only reason warmachine is cheaper is because it requires less models. The prices per model are almost the same.
I have no idea what i'm doing here but i should leave this part of youtube
who's even liking this?
angrydragonslayer xD I just came back too see this comment again.
I see....
+angrydragonslayer i know right? i am in eastern eu and i got none to play nor i know the game but i just keep watching. dunno why
Brad Simpson
check out privateer press products IMO
Most of the gaming shops are creepy environments with anti-social guys behind the counter. I hate em. I loved the hobby but hated all the creepy owners.
Heh, I could totally see that being the case; interestingly though, both of the game stores in my area usually have a female staffer behind the counter. I must be lucky. :D
Girl gamers can be equally as annoying or creepy/gross.
Smoth
Oh jesus christ yes they can and will be!
Yeah, I've seen that at a few places, but the GW store near me has very nice, outgoing staff.
I also started because of MWG's videos. It's amazingly cool of you to keep posting them and supporting GW's product.
Coming from someone who wants to get into the series but is broke as hell, I feel extorted from GWs psudo-racketeering
Cheers!
3D printers = goodbye Games Workshop!
No they won't, such a dumb thought....
if I had a 3D printer, I would print out an entire army, and download an army book. I'd have no need for them or any of their goods.
+Skeptical Chris 3D printers cannot produce the quality of figures that Citadel and Forge World castes can.
Computers = goodbye print!

This video is a few years old. I think they're doing much better now than they were back when I made this.
I know I'm replying to an ancient comment, but I'm curious what you think of GW's 'new' approach to things, bringing back old systems, the on demand orders, etc.
miniwargaming I agree 👍 with you 100% your promotion and others do whay better presenting the Warhammer Fantasy game than GW.
There is no "public transport" that goes that far. Perhaps you're unfamiliar with miles?
James Kavanagh bike bike bike :D
Inner-city would imply I live in a city, I do not nor do I even remotely live near one. Hence the discrepancy.
And I don't live NEAR a CITY nor a TOWN.
I have been out of the hobby for several years now but stumbled upon MWG's videos and they made me consider getting back in. This has changed my mind.
I am not one to associate one employee to the image of a large company but this was different this is a level of customer service that forever insured I wasn't one. so F you games workshop! f you
and if you're a gamesworkshop employee from Houston TX who ever got knocked out and had to clean up magazine's after- Fffffffuuhuhhuck you
mushy Hats off to you. He sounded like he deserved it.
Way to step on the little guy GW.
Well done. Smart, well constructed and logically persuasive. It seems like you really appreciate your fanbase and value their custom. You guys rock and I'd be sad to see you guys stop doing videos
Solution: Let Games Workshop die. Better companies will pop up that deserve your money.
40k will die with it
We cant have 40k without GW. Its like dating the girl of your dreams but her friend is a fucking nightmare. Either you ditch both or deal with the shit. And were all fucking nerds so its not like we'll be dropping relationships anytime soon.
Unlawful Waffle Literally the best comment. I will never read something that true.
Brandon Pack Screw GW !!!!
For just 1 GW army you can get:
1. X-Wing miniature game - army
2. Bolt Action army
Jackal Muldipulus CABAL I agree. I remember the days you could buy 10 miniatures for £5 and a Leman Russ for £12.
BUY FROM US
Daniel rogers
That’s a good name
I approve
I just discovered this Video today, :( . So I missed the sale. :P .
I got into the game in 2000 but stopped playing because of the price of models, and when I moved in 2008, there was a store about 15min away but it closed and now I would have to drive about 50mi or so for the next store (assuming it's there) so GW is really hurting itself as now Nintendo and Steam get my money instead of them. :P (Thanks to the 3DS)
Look how far you guys have come! Closing soon? my arse, glad to see you guys are healthy now!
not a wargaming player or fan. but find this very interesting. i have heard nothing but bad things about games workshop and their business practices. but obviously it is successful as they are the brand name in wargaming and many other companies have fallen by the wayside as being unable to compete with them.
success full -_- liverpool westfield gamesworkshop closed down , macarthur square gamesworkshop closed down , parramatta WILL close down , because games work shop sucks
oscar michael
Add the GW HQs in Germany, France and USA to the list.
yea , thats how poor they are , they think just because they put the price high to rip people of with plastic , they will buy it, but guess what they are the dumn ones there store are fked and gonna shut down world wide , ill party and laugh soooooo soooo hard when they will shut down.
games workshop sux to expensive a propa army in nz cost bout the same as a good cheap runabout car
Also srsly why is the rulebook and codices so fucking expensive when they did new edition after 2 years :P Sry, but I am pirating the books :(
yea i dont get why a codex has to cost 50$ for
3d printing people its cheaper i dont play wk40 but i did it i will print my minis
Garcia Romero
jaja tu conquista si vos hubieras estado con los putos conquistadores te cagas del miedo jajaja y tu bandera me la paso por el culo literalmente anque a veces me siento mal por la mierda que toca ese pedazo de bandera =)
3d printing quality has not yet reached standards high enough to print miniatures.
Doran Martell
it depends have you tried?
All I have is an extremly well experienced friend on the matter.
What is the price of 3d printing a mini?
You guys didn't get me into it, but you helped me expand my hobby to new heights
this matthew guy is realy intelligent
Just wait for 3D printer come to sales. ))) Just download 3D model and print your miniture.
yea no need to spend money on this bull shit , if they want stragergy , they can play chess , cheaper and famous , not for geeks
when I lived back home before moving to London for work my local hobby shop was a great place to get bits and allowed you to browse with out being pestered for buying stuff," what you in for how about getting this as well and please sign here so we own your soul and that of your children as well"
Aaannnnnddd. This is why I play warmachine. ;) lol.
Now that it has been just about two years since close of MWG Stores I would love to hear your "update" on how its gone and where your focus is going forward. Love everything you all are doing at MWG!
Are you still going to do the 40k history videos? I've enjoyed listening the lore behind all the Space Marine Chapters along with the different xeno races (hoping you'll do a Tau video soon).
considering what the situation I am surprised at how calm and polite this guy is.
That is very impressive.
did only the online store close or did the local store did too?
I love how accurate you prediction was at 24:30. When this came into effect GW saw a 85 point increase in there stock followed by a -300 point drop right after. Trying to strangle the market for sales is NOT a good business plan.
nope they're more profitable than ever before. Stock is at $150 rn
this is too bad, kinda starting to get back into this after many years because of your vids. hope you guys succeed in your plans for the future
Where can I find a catalog of these direct order items? I can't find any on the Games Workshop site.
Where can I get one of those tiger repelling phones?
They closed the Games Workshop around my area a few years ago before I could get into the hobby. I found your channel, and remembered my small Tau Army. I was considering starting again buying online, but it looks like that's not going to happen for a while now. :/
I know a certain online retailer that is still selling GW stuff online. How can that be? I thought the new agreement meant all online sales were to stop even for brick and mortar stores.
It was my good mate who got me into the hobby.
It was miniwargaming that kept me interested.
Bless you and your batt reps.
Your Battle reports are what got me into buying their products. I dropped at least 500 USD in the first month, and I still want more models.
Are dark angels just space marines painted differently? Because I can't find many different dark angels on the games workshop online
Gutted dude, you're got a group of 6 of us playing here in England so much inspiration from your vids. Sad to see you guys go.
Good luck - I hope you continue to grow and prosper despite the way your being treated.
tear we will miss the store and all the nice discounts. love what you guys do you have my thx for all the great videos guys.
Did you reverse this decision? Seing as its been more then half a decade since this
