- SOLD TO MY NABOR ACROSS THE STREET 1966 CHEVY C70 653 DETROIT 3 SPEED OD AUX ,2 SPEED REAR FULL AIR BRAKES POWER STEERING ,TILT WHEEL.
missed a shift or two. Camera and tri pod in the way a little. Shifts better when the trans a rear warmed up a little more.
The main box 4th and 5th are shifted 2 times when using the 2 speed, 4th low rear 5th low rear back to 4th high rear then 5th high rear.
Picked up a 5th wheel sider hitch for it. Soon to do some body work and exhaust stacks up the back side - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ

This video brought tears to my eyes...I remember 20 plus years ago my dad used to drive a truck similar to how this one sounds and it brings me back good memories of growing up on the farm on the outskirts of Bakersfield CA now my dad is going to have a operation because they found cancer in his intestines....I wish I can roll back time to be with him when he was healthy..and When I 10 year's old again .....
That's a curable cancer and he's going to make it through. Keep enjoying the sounds of your childhood, with him. He will be here for a while longer. God bless you.

This is a hard topic to touch on tbh. If we're talking about older diesels, then I still have to say Detroit, like a 653 or 12v71. If we're talking newer, then it's a toss up between a '09 MaxxForce DT466 and a '08 Cummins ISB6.7.

I can't be the only guy that has ever imagined shoehorning one of these into a 80's silverado and having one hell of a mean street truck !
Even better yet, imagine their faces after their hitch gets ripped off by a truck that doesn't roll coal or have a folgers can strapped to the tailpipe !

I remember an old trucker once told me, "If ya can't find 'em, grind 'em".
That was actually a common problem back in the day. You really had to be a master of not grinding the gears. Today's modern stick shift transmissions are virtually idiot proof.
I never get tired of this video. That old Detroit engine is music to my ears!
If I had the money, I would love to get an old truck like this and just drive around all day jamming through the gears.

we have an old 68 c80 just like this with a wrecker body on it. its painted orange and was appropriately nicknamed "the pumpkin". My granddad bought it brand new to start his own business. I can remember taking the heat shield off in the winters so the engine provided heat for the cab. (until a boot got a little too close, causing the rubber sole to melt!) It has been sitting since 1989 but this spring it shed new light as I am taking on the challenge in restoring the old beast back to its glory days.

Love the sound of Detroit diesel, it reminds me of the time I had to ride one of the old T444E buses and the bus driver always drove it like this (and yes I know the T444e engine is a ford motor)

When I was a kid, the elementary school I went to was in the country. I remember this Exxon truck that would always drive by the school, I guess taking diesel to farmers. Anyways, it was loud as hell. And now that I'm an adult, I realize that it was powered by a Detroit. Probably a 653 like this one. Watching this video brought back memories of that truck, like you wouldn't believe. Sumbitch it was loud!! The sound impression of a Detroit is indellibe. One that you will never forget.
I really love the sound of this 2 stroke diesel engine, puts a smile on my face! Where I live we don't have them, but I would drive it all day long en enjoy the hell out of it!

We had an Oilfield trucking service back in the 70s every rig was either a Chevy or GMC with these hauling as Detroit's!! Love the sound of em!! They're badass!
I've got one in my 64 GMC. Neighbors kids are in and out of the driveway all night in their Honda civics. Love my little piece of retribution at 5:30am and 6pm. I hit the jakes coming home. They don't hang nothing on their walls anymore.

Lol, this sound reminds me of my grandfather. I remember him smiling when driving his old chevrolet truck with the detroit diesel. At the time I was young and didn't understand his excitement, now I do.
This was the video that got me hooked up on 2-stroke Detroit's. Back when I thought they were revving to the moon, unaware that 2-stroke engines tend to sound higher than normal simply because there's a combustion cycle every 360 degrees, instead of every 720 degrees like 4-stroke engines.
Nice one dude. It's great to see someone give these tough old workhorses the respect and recognition they deserve.
I could picture this truck all fixed up with fresh paint, classic polished Alcoa wheels, a steel diamond plate and lacquered wood stake bed, and twin polished stainless stacks behind the cab!

I remember our skiff in Alaska had one of those engines and it sounded just like that when it was rapped out, pulling the net. Sweet!
Had a 1966 C70 Chevrolet tandem axle dump truck with a 6V53 Detroit running through a 5 speed gearbox with a 4 speed auxiliary gearbox. Truck had a exterior Luber-finer oil filter, air brakes and not much else. When loaded, you could hear the truck coming for a half mile. Nothing like hearing a Detroit!
My dad hauled logs on a gmc 7500 when I was growing up , it was a live tandem,Ill never forget the sound of that truck when the jakes come on , it was alot louder than this one. We use to get stopped by the dot every day or 2 because the noise , brings back alot of memories. Im grown now & own my own trucking business, My ol truck has a 8v92 detroit in it , & I work her 5 days a week long live detroit deisel !

Ohh yeah! I've got a 6V53 with a 5+4 trans going into a shortened '81 one ton Chevy and I can't wait to finish it! Doing chassis work now, she's short box step side. I widened the box 6" to cover the duals and tubbed it. Putting a drop axle on leafs up front to keep her as low as possible. Hopefully be rolling by the summer. I can't wait to roll through town with that sweet Detroit music! This vid is great motivation!!!

At the KW dealership I hear complaints of fuel usage constantly on the ISX. I hear around 5 to 5.5. The new Detriot DDE13 is currently getting 7MPG. The downfall is the only way to get is in a Freightliner. The Cascadia is full of electrical issues. The last good Freightliner was the FLD model. Also it doesn't matter if you get a Glider, you still need to have a engine 7 years old or newer to get in California.
I used to drive an 8v71 powered white, trust me, thats how they are supposed to be driven. In fact, most of the old timers I know used to break them in after a rebuild by holding them wide open, right on the governor, for minutes on end...
I'm sure this one survived just fine ;-)

These sound... OHH MY GOD :) Beautiful. In my country there are not big 2 stroke diesels... If I hear one for example in a film, I am happy :) Very good thing the 2 stroke diesel.
I say that 1) Its how you drive them and 2) personal preferance. I personally like Cat, the C-15 is a fairly good motor. My dad used to have a 444 Cummins, and that was a wonderful engine, lasted a long time because my dad knew how to drive it, while others complained it was a dud. Now the ISX is like the Accert Cat, the computer and emmisions killed the motor and made it a pain in the ass to work on. In our shop, we found the EGR to be the killer for the series 60, alot of them go...
