@jfdb59 ya u gota compare apples n apples far from that this engine started out in 1930s and as tough as people think cummins are a 6v 53 would be 3600 rpm I did not say like this but nothing is as simple beautiful as ol school DD CHANGE FUEL INTO NOISE FOR ABT 100YRS our log loader ran 32 oo rpm day after day at a set rpm not up dn as ur almost trk as no 1 drive a dodge ! All drive a cummins lol I would not claim a dodge either
Growing up in Central Connecticut in the mid 70’s, my hometown’s school busses had these engines. Could hear the bus coming a mile away. The sound is forever embedded in my mind!
Same reasoning I always make ;D A friend asked me, time ago "What if you'd win the lottery and you'd become rich?" And my answer was this: "No ferraris, no lamborghinis, no porches... I'd own a cabover, with a double d under the cab" ;)
Used to haul logs in Molalla Oregon back in the 70s in a 64 KW with a 318 Detroit with #70 injecters turned up to 2600 RPM with twin stacks ....It would scream like a casterated Camachee.......Had to roll the windows down to let the noise out....I was just a kid then and thought it was fun
Saw/ heard an old Ford Louisville powered by a Jimmy drive through the yard at work today! all the 20-somethings couldn't understand what I was excited about. They don't know what they're missing!!!
marty weeks i have the privilege of being around one all the time! My dad's grain truck is a 1976 louisville with a 8V71! The thing is so loud you have to open the windows when you drive it because it just shakes the entire cab! The screamin' Jimmy really is something else!
A bus would more likely have had a bigger 6v53 or a 71 series... very similar but they sound a bit different. The 71 series was supposedly more reliable as well.... although much heavier.
Awesome sound, It's all about the hair raising, nails digging into the steering wheel rush of all that power. That's a great sounding dinosaur powered jet.
Good morning from Cape Cod 🦈 the different camera locations really captured the beautiful sound and performance of this great build. Absolutely fantastic 🤘✌️🇺🇲
Nice job with this. Good sound of this type of Detroit, perfect time of year with the snow and top it off with low angle 'golden hour' sunlight at the end. I wish I could give more than one thumbs up.
Definitely will have to come see you guys. Itll be good getting the truck out for a little jog, would love to see your project in person. Start thinking spring weather!
Watched this video with a subwoofer and my entire desk was shaking. For a good reason. I would love to get one of these engines and a old truck and drive it everywhere.
I had a 48 chevy 453n,t19 warner,410 rear, almost put in the gear vendor-I found a 87 dodge dana 70,-3.07-I swapped out the 410---made a world of difference-then did it again in a chevy with a 4bt--well worth the work--150 bucks for the 3.07. good video
freaking awesome dude. truck sounds amazing! i'm generally a Ford guy but i give you some serious points for this! gotta love them detroit diesels!!!!!!
I Work at detroit in Aus and they still have 6v71s 8v92's and even 6v92's and they are used in either marine applications or generator or in trains They don't make new engines anymore, they are just rebuilt. There are still very few that are in prime movers and buses however.
well that's just damn impressive...! plow and plates eludes to being south of B. spent a winter in East Bridgewater. you don't have to worry about seeing me ever again.
Love it!! I doubt I could use something like this as a daily driver. 60 to 70 miles from Tiverton to Boston/Framingham/Worcester for work will be a little tough on the ears...then up to 12 hours in a locomotive.,.
I love it how you dont run it through all 50gears like 0,1sec accel then shift. Sounds way better when the engine can rev from low to high on 1 bigger gear jump :)
Thanks for the good words on my truck. Im in bourne. Definitely have to swing the rig up your way some weekend when the weather turns nice. Would love to see your project. You said 5x4x2? I assume thats a 2 speed rear?.. Im currently in the process of purchasing a 1961 mack b-61 with a triplex (5x3) Should be fun getting use to driving that. Keep in touch, i look forward to seeing some more 453 videos from you.
Holy crap! I didn't know anyone put one of these into a square body! I've been looking at doing a swap like this, where would be a good place to find an engine?
I know the Euclid trucks I drove with those, you could not put enough on it to bog it down, the guys would have junk rolling off onto my cab because it was piled so high, the only one with more power was the big 6 in the Terex, but they like their oil. LoL
Very nice, awesome truck! I have a 72 GMC one ton dually with a 4-53 and a two speed aux. trans. It doesn't sound as good as yours though and I'm still looking for joke brakes
Thanks for your "Dynamic-Duo truck build!" thats sum "3 quarter wild teeruk" you got! "I say Semi-Pro!" Your vid's have encouraged me a lot, My DD build ideas are in motion I hope sum day Really soon to start :^\ "trust me I have tons of parts just not the time or the facilities ...yet! Matt
Yes Josh... 2 speed rear... Spicer TH35 5 speed into a 6041 Spicer 4 speed Auxiliary into the 2 speed rear.... Honestly haven't touched the truck or any of my projects since I bought my house..... but hopefully this year I can put a few of them on the map....
as far as i know not only emission issue also fuel-consumption issue, the problem also just like 2 stroke gasoline engine too.. 2 stroke diesel engine is awesome!
2 Things make it have the distinct detroit sound. The first and most obvious is that its a 2 stroke diesel, so each cylinder fires on every revolution. The second, is that it uses a blower, much like you would see on a supercharged street rod, to push the fresh air into the engine and the exhaust gases out. The blower tends to make a kind of vacuum cleaner noise, which is distinct on every detroit 2 stroke engine.
Fuck yeah not a old chevy fan I have a Dmax Pstroke van and a international t444e but I love the unique sound of Detroit I will love to have a 95 97 f250 crew cab lifted with a Detroit engine I am going to watch your vids
I can imagine all of the Cummins fan boys looking at you like, "what the fuck is that wicked thing?!?!"
i am one of them. I love how this thing sounds. But I would have to wait for him at the next light to tell him. ;)
Their parents will have to explain it to them.
@jfdb59 sapose at 212 ci I would hope so ! 53 ci per hole
Um something better then a Cummins and it’s the best sounding diesel out there
Growing up in Central Connecticut in the mid 70’s, my hometown’s school busses had these engines. Could hear the bus coming a mile away. The sound is forever embedded in my mind!
But your bus probably had a 671 or an 8v71 because a 453t is too small for a bus
You are a god😂👍
Im gonna get one of these engines, clean and paint it up, and put it on a nice stand in my living room with an exhuast pipe coming out the roof.
YOU SIR, are on to something there!!!...hmmmm
good idea!!
thee american dream, its awesome
+CHRIS BROESKY Only thing I see wrong with that idea is it will leak oil all over your living room floor, knowing it's a Detroit.
MichaelTJD60 Yeah well im single, and the 3208 didnt wanna fit through the door lol.
Runs 87mph +/- a few, wide open. Faster than ill ever need to go in it.
SO much cooler than a Cummins swap! Love it.
So to is a 3126 CAT swap.... Cummins is like the LS swap of diesels. I love a Cummins engine but theres so many of them
the magic of two strokes
@@199jl Would that make this essentially a Coyote swap?
@@dominator9833 hahaha possibly.... maybe soon to use that as a comparison yet but I could see it haha
I love them too but they arent super easy to find
Theres only one thing this truck needs to make it super cool and that would be a jake brake!
This is already super cool. That would make it absolute zero.
@@kelharper7971 I agree
They have them
there's nothing that sounds as good as a Detroit 2 stroke diesel
Same reasoning I always make ;D
A friend asked me, time ago
"What if you'd win the lottery and you'd become rich?"
And my answer was this:
"No ferraris, no lamborghinis, no porches... I'd own a cabover, with a double d under the cab" ;)
This my Friend is Fucking badass
Thankya sir
Can't get enough of them screamin' Jimmys !
I give you the music of my people
Joe Collier saved it
Those aluminum 6v53 2 strokes are sick!
Saw/ heard an old Ford Louisville powered by a Jimmy drive through the yard at work today! all the 20-somethings couldn't understand what I was excited about. They don't know what they're missing!!!

That happy idle is just the best thing on earth. The revs are sexy too but damn, that happy happy idle.
Sounds like a fucking 60's bus. Oh wait that is a Detroit bus engine.
A bus would more likely have had a bigger 6v53 or a 71 series... very similar but they sound a bit different. The 71 series was supposedly more reliable as well.... although much heavier.
I love the smell of diesel in the morning, that smell, that diesel smell, the whole hill. It smells like power..
yes, yes it does. Diesel smells amazing
Wow ! Your truck sounds absolutely fantastic! Very very well done .
Actually i get 23mpg around town, not bad for an 84 3/4ton 4x4 truck :)
There ain’t nothing like a screaming Detroit
If I could do this to my Colorado, I will in a heart-beat.
+MJofLakeland1 i live in Colorado and i have on in a forklift it works the best
Might be a bit heavy for that application
2-53 would probly fit nicely
Same here
man you did a good job building that truck looks great and sounds even better
Love the sound of that little beast!! Great work on the swap!!!
Awesome sound, It's all about the hair raising, nails digging into the steering wheel rush of all that power. That's a great sounding dinosaur powered jet.
That thing is a monster going down the road, Sounds great.
Good morning from Cape Cod 🦈 the different camera locations really captured the beautiful sound and performance of this great build. Absolutely fantastic 🤘✌️🇺🇲
I especially love the sound of turbo boosted Detroit Diesels.
This is just like being in engine test at the Redford plant, great video
Nice job with this. Good sound of this type of Detroit, perfect time of year with the snow and top it off with low angle 'golden hour' sunlight at the end. I wish I could give more than one thumbs up.
We don't go fast but man we have a lot a fun :-) Sounds real nice, nice tune to, not over the top, just a light puff of smoke on full noise, sweet.
Definitely will have to come see you guys. Itll be good getting the truck out for a little jog, would love to see your project in person. Start thinking spring weather!
Love that oldschool fisher setup... looks nice on that truck.
Now, I want to know who the 32 knuckleheads are that disliked this awesome piece of machinery...
33 people disliked this video. they are Prius owners.
The same guys who are scared to challenge a Detroit diesel with their daddys truck
They are probably dodge boys.
Looks and sounds great! nice paint job and wheels and tires as well! Enjoy !
That sounds fantastic! What a sound to it!
that truck is fucking sick literally everything is perfect on it
It will never be perfect! Im always doing or changing something on it LOL..
Great video and very we'll put together... Truck included. Being a Michigander, love the scenery while driving too.
Clark 5 speed overdrive, you can watch all my other vids of it, we made all the motor mounts. Appreciate the comment man.
Got to drive it like you are mad at it
So awesome sound... But if i didn't know i heard a detroit diesel i would have thought my top was going to blow 😂
Watched this video with a subwoofer and my entire desk was shaking. For a good reason. I would love to get one of these engines and a old truck and drive it everywhere.
man you really dont see a lot of GMCs from that era. looks awesome, sounds awesome. im in love
Wow this is an awesome truck!! Sure would like to put something like this together eventually. Great work man, looks and sounds great!
LOVE IT A CHEVY WITH A DETROIT CAN'T BEAT THAT FORD NICELY DONE GUYS
Omg loved the sound at the end

WHOO! If that doesn't set your heart to goin', I don't know what will! :D BEASTLY!
Great Detroit Diesel engine. A lot of them on boats too.
Beautiful truck. I would love to own a truck with a Detroit 453
Even if I was a multi-milonare, THIS is the truck I would own! The coolness factor is off the chart on this one! :-)
Thanks man. Yea its a go pro, Jakes are hard to find! especially with the valve cover spacer! And if i do find a set, i cant afford them LOL.
Great Sound

Hello, please, someone will answer me what dimensions of turbo can I use in a 4-53 to extract some 170 hp? Thankful!
An 8v53 with an Allison auto installed in a peterbuilt pick up truck conversation would be nice.
