- Fifty years ago London Bridge was dismantled, shipped halfway across the world and rebuilt in Arizona.
When it was erected in Lake Havasu City the original stones from London were placed on to a hollow concrete shell.
The BBC was given a rare chance to look inside the bridge.
For more on how the bridge was moved go here • The American who bough...
Watchin ghost adventures and found out London bridge has been in Arizona since 1967..I had no idea so I researched it..quite fascinating.
I remember going to Lake Havasu for vacations as a kid and my dad would take us to the London Bridge and I always thought it was so random to have in Arizona. My dad could never answer the question of why they put it in Arizona
nice that they could save this wonderful bridge. Most Londoners wish they still had it
Most Londoners don't know we haven't lol
We have enough bridges 😂😂🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
We are allways building bridges in Denmark. Though normally we build a bridge where the crossing is at the shortest. But here is a totally other concept. "Where do we find the widest cross over so that this beautifull bridge can fit in?". I LOVE IT!
When they built the bridge there was no water. They had to make a river.
Do you have to drive on the opposite side?
I gotta see this thing before I falls down
People are waking up hats off to Jon Levi
Looks like a Lovely Area
The pics of the "construction" looks more like an excavation. Unearthing an already existing bridge from a mud flood.
@Andrea Jackson I think you’re right. Who is paying attention? Us mud flood /Tartaria researchers, that’s who..
Lmao, there are still people ALIVE TODAY that remember when it was standing in London, and there are pictures of it being dismantled and REBUILT in Arizona.
@@MariaElena51185 There is no proof for tartaria
@@kalez963 as if Tartaria could be proved by other things than maps, buildings etc.
By all means keep your opinion going 😂
@@MariaElena51185 The maps that show tartaria do so because it is a region... If there was a tartaria why is there no archeological proof and instead archeological proof for other nations that existed during the same time as tartaria??
I doubt the original colonistits would have ever imagined that the original london bridge would one day literally be brought to the new world”.. they would have said “Nonsuch!” Im sure.. if you know the history of the bridge then pun intended ,)... i know its lame but its funny to me
Let alone those Humvees going over it
well it is not the *original one, it is the 19th century one, the second that had been built, not the first
My Great-Great-Great-Grandfather and Familywas a Englishman who established and pioneer
@@swoosh50
Are you sure about that 🤔..
@@mareksicinski3726 the original London bridge was destroyed, so this is the oldest London bridge
We have your bridge, England. what are you going to do?
nothing
Never let them change the rails

wheres the pics of putting it together
They are out there... but they really look like they dig it out of the ground instead of construct it
how did i just find this out i live in arizona
Are you from the big cities?
@@PoipoleMujigae yes
When I visited England they said some guy bought London Bridge when he thought he was buying Tower Bridge
It looks pretty good..I wouldn't risk crossing it
Thousands of people drive across it every day. It is not dangerous at all.
Never heard of this bridge till Ghost Hunters. I live a Arizona and NEVER heard of this. Embarrassing!
This bridge is also very haunted from what I hear
You heard wrong. I lived on the island so i had to use the bridge daily and no one in havasu says its haunted
If it is, the ghosts gotta be confused as a MF wondering how they got to a desert on the other side of the planet 🤣🤣
@@tylerkriesel8590 “Oh goodness.. mate.. look outside.. it appears we are in a bloody desert! Oh great heavens!”
@derekconstantino7759 Also grew up in Havasu. Not Haunted.
💥 The MOST interesting Financial Fact about the London Bridge project is that McCulloch and Wood actually made a huge PROFIT on this entire deal!! The bridge that you see in Arizona is only the exterior shell granite of the original bridge from London. You see in this video that when the bridge was rebuilt, they created an interior concrete core and rebuilt the exterior facade granite only. McCulloch then Sold the remainder of the granite stone to cemeterys for grave headstones and also the small granite memorabilia 'Pieces of the London Bridge' to many tourists, thereby making more money in the total bridge project than the total price he paid! You need to consider the Genius involved in the Highest Priced Antique purchase in History and you still make a profit on that Deal! And that is only the money they made on the Bridge, BEFORE the fortune McCulloch made on selling all the Real Estate of his new tourist destination, Lake Havasu City! You are all learning about one of the greatest modern stories of the creation of a new American city! And the Londoners who believed that gossip story about buying the Tower Bridge have No Clue about what a Great success this crazy dream has become!! McCulloch and Wood were brilliant visionaries!! 😂
The US media were mostly to blame for the story McCulloch bought the wrong bridge. Journalists and the American public think London Bridge was Tower Bridge and when they saw the bridge they thought he bought the wrong bridge. McCulloch knew exactly what he was buying and the money he was going to make from it. I have actually walked across the Bridge in London and in Lake Havasu City...
does anyone know how tall it is
not that tall.
But why didn't they move it somewhere in England? Seems weird to bring it to the USA.
Because some millionaire American bought it and wanted it to be a centerpiece of his real estate project.
The traffic got to be a bit of a problem in London, so they built a new bridge and put the old one up for sale. Some American millionaire at the time wanted it, so brought it, dismantled it and took it back to the US brick by brick.
In fact it was two millionaires who decided to build Havasu City. Robert P. McCulloch and C.V. Wood. And yes it is McCulloch as in the chainsaw brand!
City of London were replacing it and decided to sell it to the highest bidder. Americans like that sort of thing from the mother country.
But why?
It was a mistake, the guy who bought it thought he was buying tower bridge.😂
@@jameshorner7816 that’s a myth, he meant to buy London bridge. Tower bridge was never for sale.
@@animationflow1055We get that Tower Bridge wasn’t for sale. People who don’t know think Tower Bridge IS London Bridge.
Who did he say was shitting in the cave?
Either the bobcat or the bats
Cool!
Why? Why bring it from London to Az.?
Basically, a few guys bought a lot of land in the desert on the cheap from the federal government around what was now a reservoir lake created by the Parker Dam. They saw an opportunity to build a "beach" (of sorts) town in the desert around it, and sought to develop it but the idea was kind of a tough sell to buyers. At the same time, London was selling this antique bridge with a lot of history to it, so they bought it and made it into an attraction for their new town, and it ended up being what they needed
Its the guy from MythBusters!
Us got no history like England
And vice versa. England has no history like the US.
Like wot
@@EliF-ge5bu haha wtf... English history has some of the richest and most interesting history in the world.
@@mrwaverider5537 are you British?
I am just pointing out that each country has its own history, and people say the US has no history. Quite the opposite, in fact. For a country do young, it has a very unique history.
That's b*******. My ancestors moved here from England in colonial times so I can claim America's history from the 17th century and I can claim British history for anything prior.
Came here from map men
To less technical and historical Information 😖
Bat poop is the most expensive fertilizer
Brick by brick my ass. That bridge was already there. You can see pictures of it being dug out of the mud
It’s literally from London mate. Dunno how that could’ve gotten there. They literally moved it brick by brick to Arizona and reconstructed it there. It’s not rocket science to figure it out.
@@animationflow1055because there's this goofy conspiracy theory where people like him think that the world went through a giant mud flood In the 1850s basically flat earth where you can't destroy the entire theory by just using more than 6 of your braincells

When they buy London Bridge and expect Tower Bridge to arrive.
Quite an expensive mistake 😅
The US media were mostly to blame for the story that multi millionaire McCulloch bought the wrong bridge. Journalists and the American public think London Bridge is Tower Bridge so when they saw the bridge they thought he bought the wrong bridge. McCulloch knew exactly what he was buying because he saw it before he bought it, self made millionaires are not that stupid. The money he was going to make from real estate was 5 times he paid for the bridge, I have actually walked across the Bridge in London and in Lake Havasu City...
