Great ensemble of pic's the city centre ones bring back a lot memories of my chilhood in the 60's such a shame what they did to St Johns (old) market whitechapel and quite a bit of church street you could almost cry looking at the state of Lime ST up to ST Luke's all the old picture houses just left to rot scala futurist abc lime st etc. Well done much appreciated.

In my opinion Liverpool has some of the most evocative beautiful historical street and area names of any city in Great Britain. Study them and they tell you their history which goes way back to Saxon times.
Superb! My parents were from around the Grafton Street/ Beaufort Street area. We were all brought up in Garston, right on top of St. Mary's Road. Some very wonderful photos. Thanks for putting them on.
Even as late as 1960, Park Rd looks like a vibrant major route out of the city. Comparing some of the pictures with Google Map, very little of the imposing buildings survive & the area is now a sad backwater reflection on what was there before.
Excellent Tom. The shot looking down Grafton Street was were I walked with mum after getting off the overhead at Herc Dock station on our way for a cuppa at Grans. Thanks.
Liverpool was an exciting place, I remember visiting some relatives when I was only about 7 in the early 60s. They lived in the cellar of a four storey house which I think they used to have lodgers. At the end of the street I could see the giant ships which were fascinating. We even took a trip on the Mersey ferry to Birkenhead and back. Sadly all the houses have been demolished by the council slum clearance, claiming that they were unsanitary as the toilets emptied right into the river. I don't think they knew what damage they did when they demolished so much of old Liverpool. So much destruction for no good reason.
Brilliant. I grew up in Caryle gardens. I can remember many a happy hour down the cast iron shore, i fell down a big muddy hole and tried to sneak into the bathroom without my mam seeing me. Needless to say, it didnt work lol.
Great pictures. Makes me feel a little sad. Most of those places are gone now. I was born in 1940 in Upper Mann St. between Park St. and Northumberland St. in the tenements facing the horse stables. The Old Liverpool pics just missed showing that by one street. I was soooo disappointed. Anyone out there come across any pics?
Born on the docks 51, went to Aus 76, had a wonderful life. Now live in Europe (not UK). These photos bring back so many good memories, even tho we had nothing, the community was strong, as a kid I felt like I belonged, knew so many people, like one big family :) And the people lived with a strong set of values we all understood and upheld. A time when we weren't afraid to let the kids play in the streets and no one was going to come and threaten you with a knife! Wouldn't live in UK now if you paid me millions!
Hi is there any chance you can come up with some photos from the likes of Ouse Street as I used to live there, there was a shop called Osborne's, it was on the corner of South Street and Ouse Street, the Criterion was facing our street, Joe Moore's it was called, the next street along towards Park Road was a shop called slattery's a general store, and a street the other way there was a shop called Jonny Bowman's, he used to sell fruit and veg. Hi Ron….I lived in Greta Street next to Ouse street. Slatterys was on the corner of our street. My brother Peter was good friends with Billy Slattery. My Brother in law managed the Old Stingo pub opp Mount Carmel church. Remember Moynihans sweet shop and the Christmas window with all the annuals? Osbornes was one of the nicer shops to get bread from. Johnny Bowman I can still picture him and the tiny black dog (pug?) who was always in the shop. How life has changed :)
Hi Barbara, Thank god for that 👀 I thought I was in a parallel universe, I lived in number 38 Ouse Street, I was always sent to Osborne's by my mother with a note, asking for credit it was alway's, a pint of sterie, loaf, and 10 Woodbine's. I was friends with one of the slattery's, and a guy named Tony snell, not sure if he's the Tony snell. I wish I could get back to them time's. 🤗 👀

There’s a photo of The old stingo Liverpool 8 showing a bit of our street if you do a search. Our Peter & his mates would make the biggest fire on bonfire night on that debi right next to our house :)
Hi Barbara, did you live right by the shop I think it was next to the entry (enog) as we used to Call it, because there was an debris at the top of our part of Ouse Street, as you know, the street's where in two half's. 🤗 👀

With is the pic at the front of the Royal nurses accommodation not infirmary on Pebrook place City Centre If it’s South end Sayin that Brilliant video mate. They killed it all on us didn’t they These councillors an bastard developers
Apparently some of the dingle and southill house flats where painted red because the dock workers and sailors brought home the red paint used on the ships the doors and walls where painted with it as well it was lead paint thou
just sitting looking at the video I used to go to my nans in Hesketh st, off lark lane then right at the end a photo of a night out in the Masonic and there is both my nan and grandad, shocked...... i thought they were both teetotal all that time :)

Wow, as a 10yo in 1961 I caught rheumatic fever and was in the children's hospital, seeing it now brought back all those memories! Thanks Tom.

A lot of the street names are associated with Belfast too. Another superb film.

I bet you went to Duncombe Road school as I did in the 50’s.

You could get everything you needed on Park Road, from a 3 piece suit to a 3 piece suite.
Have to get my map out. Grandma and Grandad on Edenfield Road took me to the Mystery. Not sure how long a walk that would've been.
