Coach I have a question regarding the first three steps out of the starting blocks. Is this the recommended foot spacing of the first three steps? Step 1= 3 feet, Step 2= 4 feet and Step 3= 5 feet?
The first step should be around a metre … second and third will depend on your angles and your power levels. I’d not work too specifically to set lengths but more to the shin angles and the mechanics of the accelerating steps. I try to get the athletes to scissor the leg driving one leg back whilst taking the foot forward. This makes for a very dynamic exchange of the legs. If you get these factors right then your step lengths will “set” themselves. Hope this helps. Oh, as you improve the step lengths will alter. Its power and angles that determine a great start
I post these in the Coach-Athlete Members channel area - along with specific videos which explain in more detail what the aims of the workouts are and the training blocks. If interested head to the channel’s homepage and click on the Membership tab. Thanks
