Been loving the ride so far. Daniel Warren Johnson has done a great job tackling some big themes (namely PTSD, grief, and styles of leadership). Carly's arc has been great, as DWJ has given her time to be vengeful and even unlikable (see her treatment of Cliffjumper). But that said, you would likely not be a great person to hang out with as well if your dad was heartlessly crushed to death at the hands of a Decepticon like Starscream. Another inspired pivot DWJ has done is put Carly at the center of action and Spike more in the background as he deals with the possibility of being paralyzed below the waist for life - but very likely still wanting to follow in his brother's footsteps and become an astronaut.
One of DWJ's best accomplishments for this series is making it a true ensemble piece. Characters, some beloved, some who have never gotten their due, have had time to shine, be it Astrotrain's "rage-a-holic" moments, which are tempered with an oddly respectful attitude toward a weaker species, Cliffjumper's conflicts, and my favorite so far, Beachcomber, and his choices, as well-intentioned as they were, couldn't stop the inevitability of war. In short, a fun read with some genuine, earned, heart-wrenching moments.

The truth is excellent that more and more people are talking about this great reinterpretation of Transformers.
However, I must point out a very important point in the climax of the first arc of the comic that I'm really surprised no one else has pointed out given that it is in fact so far the best scene of the whole comic, and that is that Optimus Prime's decision to destroy the energon collector to save Earth, at the cost of abandoning Elita and his world again, is not a moral debate about which of the two Autobot leaders is right, but a demonstration of the true psychological aftermath that war can have on its participants, since Optimus Prime, in every way, made the right decision and Elita's plan would NOT have worked.
To begin with, the Decepticons, under the command of Soundwave, had NO reason to stop the war nor free the Autobots just because two of their leaders had at their disposal an apparent alternative to restore Cybertron, as Soundwave himself demonstrated in his rise to leadership after eliminating Starscream the Decepticons ideology dictates that the strong have the right over the lives of the weak, that the only way to build a strong Cybertron is to follow the law of the strongest where only those who have the power can have a voice and autonomy to lead, while those who are weak are a burden to development and growth, so in no way would he allow beings of inferior nature, according to his extremist ideal, to lead the salvation of his home, as that would be an incentive to overthrow the Decepticons' control over Cybertron, even worse when those Autobot leaders were the killers of Shockwave, with whom Soundwave was very close.
That leads to the second point, since the Earth’s power take was a project initiated and directed by Shockwave, the Decepticon scientist and close companion of the current leader of his faction, if already for reasons of ideology the Decepticons would not stop even having a chance to save their world, Soundwave would also be motivated by revenge to continue with the persecution and elimination of the Autobots, so that all the reinforcements of his army would have been focused on recovering the citadel and the scientist’s collector, unless they first destroyed the tower of the Nemesis ship which would eventually send Cybertron back to its place of origin, preventing the Autobots from getting more energon.
So we came to the third point, the device that Elita had to collect energy from Earth was not a small and easy object to transport like the All-Spark of War For Cybertron trilogy or the energon collector of Transformers Prime, but a mega structure easy to locate and attack, which would also require constant maintenance and supervision to obtain the result that Elita sought, which would make it more difficult to defend, Even worse when the collector was in full Decepticon territory and as the likely comic showed Elita lost all his team just to get there and rescue Ultra Magnus, The worst of all, they would still have the strength to defend for so long a structure impossible to mobilize without impairing the flow of energy.
From here we see how Elita's plan is falling apart more and more since as she mentioned the only reason why the Autobots managed to survive so long on Cybertron was the energy crisis that made it impossible for the Decepticons to use their heavy weapons and as Shockwave himself said getting enough energy from Earth to restore Cybertron was going to take a “century” which meant it would be a very long process that should not suffer delays, so Elita would have to lead for a century the defense of two places, the Nemesis on Earth and the Collector on Cybertron, with a minimum of men and resources.
Which leads to another observation, humans would in no way allow an invading race to use their planet as a source of energy until it dries up and as can be seen at the beginning of this story the Grounder weaponry can hurt the Cybertronians, so that even if Optimus and the other Autobots invented some cover to avoid an attack on the Nemesis, it was only a matter of secretly sending an attack or bombing to destroy the ship, so the Autobots, being almost dead, would have to protect both points from humans and Decepticons, and Optimus would not approve of eliminating humans forced to participate unjustly in the war he brought to Earth.
And if all of the above were not enough, given the state of precariousness of its forces Elita would have been forced to use the energon already taken to maintain defense, delaying the restoration of Cybertron.
In conclusion, based on all of the above, Elita’s plan, though tempting, would only have ended up reviving the fire of war on Cybertron, giving both factions what it takes to keep killing each other for the coming eons, so even ignoring the ethics of sacrificing an innocent planet, Optimus made the right decision by destroying the collector, not only to save life on Earth, but because following his essence as a character, Analyzing the long-term consequences of actions, he knew that Elita’s decision would be inefficient for the Autobots and all Cybertronians alike, as I mentioned at the beginning in his conversation with Spike, After centuries of war and acquiring more wisdom Optimus came to the conclusion that the true cause of the war had been a structural failure within the government of Cybertron which prevented equal rights for all its inhabitants in a state of equity, So that if he had sided with the Elita and assumed that their plan would have worked, that would have ended up contaminating the minds of cybertronians, taking away their interest in solving their own government problems by showing them that they could always take energy from other worlds if they faced another energy crisis.
An incorrect reading in my opinion is that Elita One unlike its other versions, always had that Machiavellian attitude that only led her to prioritize the well-being of her people regardless of the means necessary and therefore showed so much aversion towards Optimus, Besides considering him a coward and a traitor who abandoned the cause for which he started a war, so that in reality she never felt genuine affection for Optimus but only came close to him by his initial brutality and complete disinterest in the lives of those whom he considered his enemies, All this supported by the apparent joy of the fembot to see the brutality with which his leader killed Shockwave.
However, there are two key points that rule this out, the first being the same change in personality of Optimus, since as the comic shows the leaving Cybertron because he considered that the fight in that world would come to a standstill (which at the end I step) and it was necessary to seek new methods to restore it and stop the Decepticons, but just after their departure the Ark was intercepted and knocked down by Megatron, leaving Optimus stranded on Earth and unconscious for eons, so that in that period of time there was no process or experience to lead him into being the leader we see at the beginning of this story, which means his change must have taken place on Cybertron and moving to the second point, in the scene of the collector, The very Elita questions Optimus if he thinks that she wanted to force him to make a decision as difficult as sacrificing his principles to save his home.
Elita said that with an expression that only denotes horror, sadness and remorse, despite the distant and resentful she showed herself to him, With this dialogue she demonstrates that Optimus and his ideals still matter enough to make her unable to fight them directly alone, for although she initially did not mind abandoning her own men with Shockwave, Despite having an apparent salvation for cybertron in her hands, she was unable to defend it from what she considered a traitor of the Autobot cause, because even being armed and being so strong she was unable to hit or shoot him to leave him incapacitated and unarmed, Merely begging him to come home, though Optimus showed that he had no intention of leaving planet earth, if he disapproved of using the energy already taken less would still be willing to sacrifice the whole planet. Elita’s reaction, in addition to that of Optimus which denotes anger followed by sadness, would indicate that at first Elita was not so and she probably also had firm principles about the right to life as did Optimus and the other Autobots, Since the now new attitude of Prime is not exclusive to him, because we also see it in the other Autobots like Arcee and Cliffjumper.
Based on the above, I can affirm that the scene of the collector is not a moral debate about which character is right, but a message given through the character of Elita about how war affects and destroys those involved by making them forget the cause they fought for in the beginning, if they had one, and let go of the consequences of their actions only for the desire to want to get out of this deplorable situation and rest, Elita in the bottom is aware of what she is becoming and she is in an internal struggle between her principles and her responsibility as leader that has brought her to the brink of mental collapse and believed that only Optimus was able to help her, because he is the last Autobot leader who maintains the authentic principles of his faction and is in a position to help her.

For the record, I don’t think this is the end of the Transformers comic series. Just the end of Daniel Warren Johnson’s run. I don’t think the series should end after 24 issues. Hopefully someone worthy that doesn’t work at Marvel ends up continuing what DWJ started.
