Optimus, Starscream, Arcee, and Soundwave are written so well in this series. My brain immediately reads their dialog in their original voices its so good. The other characters are good too, especially carly, but most of them have not had much of the spotlight, are still in stasis, or are already dead. I hope this series gets an animated adaptation one day
Some would disagree with all of those notions, to put simply, Optimus Prime was not just built for combat, he was born as a peacemaker when he was a young autobot named Orion Pax.
I never liked Optimus in the Bayverse, he seemed too serious and unstable especially in combat, this comic gave us an Optimus we haven't seen in a long time, he knew what he did when he accedently stepped on that deer, it took a life that was fragle. I remember when Peter Cullen's made the voice for Optimus he told a story how when he was going to audition for the role his brother Larry gave him advice that helped build the role: "Peter if you're gonna be a hero, be a real hero. Don't be a Hollywood hero with a the BS and the yelling and screaming and trying to be tough. Be strong enough to be gentle." That is what Optimus Prime should be, he is strong but yet he feels like a gentle giant, that should be Optimus Prime.
Its like in the video prime is a grizzled veteran. You can see where he stopped caring in the movies 2007. He still believed that there was a chance for his people to rebuild their home and stop the war to become one agian. He thought that only thing fueling megatron to keep fighting was the cube and that if he destroyed it megs would lose his blood thirst, that's why he was willing to kill himself and the cube. ROTF. He found out that the decepticons were still coming and still haven't stopped and when megs was revived and they tried to kill Sam you can see when optimus just gave up. He was ganged up on 3 to 1 megs and the others literally tossed him around and when he spitted out part of his mask. And turned around that's when he lost it from that point optimus lost it he new they would never stop. DOTM His teacher the one thats close to him the only prime besides him betrays hime and kills his mentor and his friends killed alot of people destroyed Chicago and made humanity lose trust in him and to top that off sentinel was literally about to kill him. when megs offered him a truce prime new it wasn't gonna last very long. AOE. Hunted down by the very people he swore to protect to help the people he saved. His friends killed and melted down into soulless products to be sold and he was told he wasn't needed.
Naivety has nothing to do with strength of mind. Optimism has nothing to do with being naive. Optimus Prime is a strong leader who remained able-minded and able-bodied despite the toughest of challenges in his life, that's what makes him so strong. His pure freaking will that constantly drives him to protect himself, his loved ones, and any other allies who help them, including humans.
he's naive in the sense of "natural and unaffected; innocent" (from Google). he remains unbendingly optimistic no matter how tough times get. he believes in a better future even when everybody else has become jaded. he remains innocent in the sense that he refuses to let the difficulties of war ruin him
I LOVE SKYBOUND OPTIMUS PRIME!! He’s absolutely wonderful. Whatever the next Transformers show is after Earthspark, I hope it takes inspiration from skybound
I like that they’re revisiting an old Marvel idea, a Transformer merging with an organic and the lines blurring. The stuff with Sparky’s memories mixing with Prime’s is very reminiscent of Scorponok and Zarak becoming one near the end of Marvel’s run. Perfect symbiosis followed by apotheosis. I hope the Headmasters show up.
6:47 As what the primes said in Revenge of the Fallen. “You have fought with courage and sacrifice, the virtues of a leader… the matrix isn’t found… it is earned.” We may not know how Optimus got the matrix… i think… but the way he became a Prime was the same way he sacrificed the Matrix to save Sam… this could represent how Optimus in a way remembered how and why he was chosen to be a Prime and if that were the, it would hit so damn hard
Fantastic analysis! I definitely agree that this version of OP seems to truly be the essence of the character in that of Peter Cullen’s strong enough to be gentle mindset. Excited for your next video!
I love this video thanks for making it bro. Although I wouldn't say he's naive, just because someone is unsure of what they're supposed to do doesn't mean that very naive Optimus prime is a lot like superman, they came to this planet un prepared confused, they both have unbelievable power and after always restrain themselves. There are not always sure of themselves, but they're always try to do the right thing. And some of my favorite characters in fiction
It makes me so happy to find a video like this. I had really liked the new comics but I hadn't been able to find all the soul that the characters have. This video changed my perspective and now I have a new appreciation for these comics
Sensational work! You've captured the heart of this new comic series and demonstrated how insightful this new take on Optimus is. He's not young like Animated prime, not rash like Netflix, but his own unique brand of trusting and naive, as you say. He really is a god on this new planet, something that interpretations of Optimus so often lose or fail to capture. I'd love to hear you talk more about the relationship between Transformers and humans in future videos, since this is such a core element of the Transformers world. Some media focuses exclusively on the bots, whereas others delve into the lives they lead once touched by humanity. As the comics continue to explore this side of Prime and as we see more character moments unfold with the other bots (Starscream, Arcee, Cliffjumper etc), I'd love to hear what you have to say! Fantastic work my friend! I'm thoroughly looking forward to more videos!
Great video man. Well written, edited, audio mixing with the nature sounds in certain scenes. You've taken a subject that's been known for months and made it feel new and compelling. I'm genuinely shocked that you haven't gotten the subs and views you deserve man, but I feel you'll grow like a mighty oak. Outstanding first video to say the least
Thank you for the kind words! Ever since this series came out I wanted to talk about it but never did. Finally I decided to just type out my thoughts on the subject and make a video. Super happy people are enjoying.
The scene with the deer really sold me on this Optimus. He cares about all life and is this gentle warrior who is also willing to give his enemies a second chance, as seen when he talks with Soundwave about ending the conflict peacefully. If there's a chance for that he will always prefer that option. Fantastic video ❤
I think what makes him so great here is that he isn't robot Jesus. He screws up sometimes, he makes mistakes and yet it seems like the world is trying to force him to be robot Jesus. The world forces all this pressure on him and he's just doing his best.
A couple of weeks ago, I watched this video and was inspired to find the first volume (which I did) and I just want to thank you for leading me to read it myself because I was never a big reader of the IDW comics, mostly due to the sheer number and discovering their epic stories a bit late to the point that I was unable to collect them. But now I'm happy that I got on board for this run because it's been so incredible so far, so thank you Delta Trion once again for leading me to discover this great series that I'm eager to see where it'll lead. Sincerely a new Subscriber.
Thank you for taking the time to leave such a heartfelt comment! I, glad that I was able to get you into the Skybound run! IDW has some great stuff in it, but yes, there’s so much of it it is daunting. Thanks for the comment and the sub 🩷🩷🩷
You captured why I love Skybound Optimus, and indeed his whole character in general, so perfectly. I’m making a rewrite of Dark of the Moon, where he’s largely still the same "war veteran" who is fierce in battle, but is still gentle when he can be, and often is. He knows Sam is still going through life at his own pace, and the Autobots are almost like children to him, at least the ”younger" ones are. The ending will be changed so Megatron words his truce slightly differently and it’s almost reached, but something happens ( what that something is I won’t reveal ) so it isn’t, and he isn’t killed by Optimus, just as a spoiler. Sentinel won’t be killed either, because I didn’t like how execution-ish his death felt. "Be strong enough to be gentle" is what I’m going to try and make my rendition of Bayverse Optimus out to be.
This here is why we love Optimus and transformers overall, not just super awesome action packed movies shows and comics but also the character growth we get to witness along the way, I definitely agree with your take on Bayverse, seeing everything that happened in the movies alone and knowing of the past Optimus had every right to snap.
They brought back Optimus Prime from the Marvel comics to Skybound \😃/ The noble Optimus Prime is finally back. The way I see this is the only difference between them both is Skybound OP is less experienced than the Marvel version as Optimus statements seems to be only a thousand or so years old. And this is the version readers can truly claim once again even Thor's Mjolnir is not even worthy to be wielded by Optimus Prime.
I feel like the Jetfire “is this all I am to you” is a slight reference to g1. He joined the autobots and same episode gets burried back on the ice. He isn’t seen again until they need a shuttle, then they dig him out. It’s been multiple episodes (I think almost a full season) but they left him until they needed Skyfire/Jetfire
Fabulous video! This came across my recommended feed at the perfect time as I'm currently working on my own video about Optimus Prime, skybound prime included. I'm with you on being completely sucked in by this run, johnson's writing is top notch, Johnson and corona's art is beautiful, and spicer's coloring is just perfect. So happy for you that you've been already finding some success within these first couple videos, you're doing great. 👍
Seriously this comics gonna be the best transformers continuity ever the characters have their time to shine (most of them rip bumblebee) the drawing are amazing the story is fantastic and interesting and it’s without a doubt the best representation of Optimus prime ever. I like this interpretation of Optimus. I’ve always seen him as a bit of a gentle giant, who’s also capable of being a hardened soldier when the moment calls for it. My mind recalls Larry Cullen’s “be strong enough to be gentle,” advice to Peter.

@@DeltaTrion Agreed! I am a HUGE fan of Robert Kirkman (Walking Dead, Invincible and Outcast are some of my favorite comics), and it's so cool to see him writing for my favorite franchise. I'd love to hear your takes on Void Rivals!

Great, well-spoken and thought out video, I couldn't agree more with your take here on Optimus. It still really blows me away how many people are STILL panning this comic as "the same old set up as G1." True, there have been the basic story setup commonalities so far (the war came to Earth aboard the Ark where both sides have lain dormant and the 3 humans they have interacted with the most have been 3 of the G1 humans) but this really has been a wonderful new telling of the classic story in MANY new ways. Here, have a sub, looking forward to hearing your continued analysis amd thoughts as this series continues and on other TF media 🍻
Amazing video! I haven't read any of the comics for transformers but compared with tv shows and movies, this comic is the best content i experienced with transformers,so far at least, but it has the potential to be something truly special. Btw what's the soundtrack you used for the video? really good choice
Another thing to keep in mind is that unlike most Transformers cartoons where the war has been going on for millions of years, the war in the Energon Universe has only been active for 200 years. This version of Prime is HIGHLY inexperienced compared to other iterations, but that's not a bad thing.
I really like Skybound's run so far. Some things i would've done differently but that's simply a matter of personal preference. One thing i will say is that a lot of classic characters die very early on. Which i think, while effective to show the brutality of this war, can lead to wasting a lot of character potential if it's done too often. But we'll see how it pans out. We're still very early in the story and it can go in a lot of different ways.
They're all low on energon and cybertronian tech. There's room in the story for the authors to literally rebuild the dead characters way later into the story that doesn't feel cheap or hokey.
I might give this comic a second chance what turned me off from this comic was everyone diminishing other iterations of optimus and that’s just wrong TF fans need to know how to praise new versions of the character without bashing the versions that came before. I also kinda wish the sky bound transformers had different designs instead of just reusing the g1 designs so sky bound can stand out more
1:36 being a grizzled war veteran doesn’t excuse war crimes, sorry. Tired of this Bay Prime defense. He mutilates his enemies, executes prisoners, and openly speaks about killing every single Decepticon, which is genocide. I’m not saying he’s not at the end of his rope, that much is clearly true, but that doesn’t make him justified. And it certainly doesn’t feel right for a version of Optimus Prime, and I say this as someone who grew up with these movies
Too be frank, he wasn't justifying anything. Bay Prime brutality is due to his steer amount of stress he' in, and he really is just done with the war now.
@@robotx9285 as an explanation and not a justification fine, I can accept that. To be honest, I get a little defensive because I have seen people genuinely act like “well he’s been through war” justifies the way he acts even though no other Optimus Prime except literally Shattered Glass was this brutal. I acknowledge that the video probably didn’t mean to defend him or fall into that “it’s ok to do war crimes if you’re stressed” kind of bullshit, I was probably up in my feelings.
I think the story of Superman provides a clear lens through which we can judge this comic. Kal El is an immigrant to Earth - to America - and he is better for it. In this land of opportunity he takes what is great about his dead people and far exceeds what would ever be possible for him on Krypton. It is an immigration story. Optimus, too, is an immigrant to Earth, but he's responsible for bringing his war to this planet, and he is willing to give his life to protect it. In more somber stories, Optimus ruminates on this; he didn't come to Earth as an immigrant, he crashed here, in a relative utopia, and brought his war to it; he feels responsible for endangering this new world. Skyboung Optimus, on the other hand, has things happen to him. He steps on a deer, but of course deer a nimble and not so easily stepped on by slow moving giant robots. This deer wasn't hiding, wasn't in shock by headlights, or had it's foot caught in a bear trap. It's a magic deer the writers placed there so it might die. The writer, no doubt, wanted to emphasize the size and power of a transformer, and considered having him Frankenstein a little girl, but that settled on it's Bambi's mother equivalent. But he doesn't hit a deer on the road, or step on one of many humans swarming him with guns; he just happens to step on the old deer in God's green Earth to be tripping balls on fermented mushrooms in the middle of an open field with one of a dozen Giant robots from outer space paying too little attention, despite literally talking to similarly sized human beings moments ago. This isn't youth, or naivety, or carelessness, or awe - it's bad writing. Optimus isn't an agent who makes things happen; he reacts like a youtuber stealing someone else's content. "Oh no, a deer, a female deer! And it's been stepped on! How horrible!"
People don't understand TFP Optimus until they read the lore books,he shut himself down so that he can protect others And nobody knows about Primes they assume. He is the same character from Prime as in Rescue Bots and RB Academy he is shown that he is quite the jokester, social butterfly and is someone who was willing to play Cube with Hotshot,as he promised he would another time, not to mention he retained his seriousness while acting as a mentor figure to the boys and the Burns Family. Alpha Trion, Amalgamous,Liege Maximo, Micronus,Solus, Nexus,Quintus and Thirteen are Primes who can have fun and party as they show they have a sense of humour, even Sentinel enjoyed comedy as he went to the Althihex Casino to watch Armorhide telling jokes

Need more TF content like this loving this skybound run so far
Hey
1 thank for the video, my english is not pretty good but i really enjoyed it! i hope i can see more of your videos in the futre
Thanks for all the love! Make sure to subscribe to get notifications of new uploads
He's too precious
You explained him perfectly
Thank you, finally at long last someone else gets it. The live action Optimus prime is like that because he did not sleep for 4 million years. He’s been fighting for 4 million years that will make anyone jaded. Subbed 👍
Thank you for the support ❤️
Of all the comments on this video I’m amazed no one is talking about how good his narration of it is so great job
Damn bro, you deserve more attention bro
Thanks for the kind words ❤️
@@itsahostiletakeover thank you for all the kind words my friend!
We need to see this version of Optimus Prime in a new 2d Transformers cartoon .
Amazing video! I haven't read any of the comics for transformers but compared with tv shows and movies, this comic is the best content i experienced with transformers,so far at least, but it has the potential to be something truly special.
Btw what's the soundtrack you used for the video? really good choice
4:55 totally agree that we should see more of this sort of thing, it’s why Beachcomber is a great character
Don’t forget about his dynamite with sparkplug. That was beyond tearful
Another thing to keep in mind is that unlike most Transformers cartoons where the war has been going on for millions of years, the war in the Energon Universe has only been active for 200 years. This version of Prime is HIGHLY inexperienced compared to other iterations, but that's not a bad thing.
i just realized that you only have less than 1k subs. Jesus christ you are underrated as hell bro. keep it up
Thanks for the love 💕
He had seen shit.
Nice
I really like Skybound's run so far. Some things i would've done differently but that's simply a matter of personal preference. One thing i will say is that a lot of classic characters die very early on. Which i think, while effective to show the brutality of this war, can lead to wasting a lot of character potential if it's done too often. But we'll see how it pans out. We're still very early in the story and it can go in a lot of different ways.
They're all low on energon and cybertronian tech. There's room in the story for the authors to literally rebuild the dead characters way later into the story that doesn't feel cheap or hokey.
My thoughts exactly.
It's kind of like if you combined G1 Optimus a little bit of movie Optimus and Superman that's the feeling I get from this version of Optimus
I might give this comic a second chance what turned me off from this comic was everyone diminishing other iterations of optimus and that’s just wrong TF fans need to know how to praise new versions of the character without bashing the versions that came before. I also kinda wish the sky bound transformers had different designs instead of just reusing the g1 designs so sky bound can stand out more
The background music mixed well with your vocals, very soothing if you ask me❤❤❤
(What is that music callled anyway😂)
Thank you for the kind words!
The song is: Across The Pier - VYEN
100/10
A good video since you did this video on Optimus prime, can you do one on bumblebee please 🙏
Absolutely! Hoping he comes back in the comic soon so I can cover him
Maximals: Hold my beer. 😅😂🤣😝
Hahaha! Indeed.
This is what the Movies Should be.
1. This was an excellent analysis of Optimus's character.
2. Could you post the music used? It's a great listen.
Thank you for the support!

I think Peter Cullen would agree with you Delta Trion 😢

I absolutely love the animated version. I feel like it needs a Reboot
Love this video. What's the song you have playing in the background?
Across The Pier - VYEN
What's the music at 2:35?
😂I think that was Rotb Optimus prime was trying to be but I think the skybound comics execute it way better.
Armada prime is also similar
Do you think you'll ever do a video on the masterpiece of a character that is Beast Wars the Second Starscream?
I might! For now I’ll be focusing on the Skybound Comic, but I will probably branch out in time ❤️
People don't understand TFP Optimus until they read the lore books,he shut himself down so that he can protect others
And nobody knows about Primes they assume.
