Hey. Nice simple fly. I like the combo of the two black midges. Many of my freshwater flies are tied on Risen hooks and beads too. The Risen saltwater hooks I tied Crazy Charlies and Gotchas onto will be put to the test in a couple weeks. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, yeah two videos in a row of the same basic fly, named differently but they basically are the same thing with one difference, the head. The black beauty I tied last week was non weighted, the zebra midge is weighted with a bead. Thanks for watching, and yes risen hooks are great for the price no question! My favorite inexpensive hook out there!
@@McFlyAngler I like both. Sometimes the bare thread gets roughed up by teeth and make the midge more buggy. Other times the fish key in on a smooth look. Do you have a favorite zebra midge color combination? Black thread, red rib and a white bead is probably my most productive combo of all time.
I actually use black with copper rib all the time. For some reason the less color in comparison to the silver seemed to attract then on the San Juan where I fished often.

Which do you like only coating the whip finish wraps with resin or coating the entire fly?
Oh yeah you can coat the whole thing if you like, just it will give a shiny look, which could be what your going for.
