I finally made my first ever true flies today. So far just a few zebra midges. I didn’t have any black thread so i used dark brown and honestly i think it’s a nice little change. Thank you Tim. You videos have helped me start on my fly tying journey.
The is the fly that got me my first ever trout from a river as well as my biggest trout it really is a truly special pattern who ever designed this deserves an award
I'm new to fly tying but am really surprised by how much I love it. It is my zen time to shut off work, news, stress, etc. Your videos are great. Nice clear close up camera work and of course that voice is awesome! Soothing and clear. :-) thanks for being my internet instructor. I caught a big beautiful cutthroat already on a red zebra midge I tied. So rewarding! Thank you!
i can scientifically explain why it zens you out. fly fishing has been studied to draw focus and relax the mind in the same way as yoga, it draws all your focus on to a very high precision movement, and forces your mind do blank it's self and focus only on the here and now. fly fishing is, literally, a form of medetation, in the same way as yoga.
Skidin Dingo exactly, I told the guys like a zen fly show then makes me wanna tie lol... But even fly fishing and not catching anything, I'm still zoned in and happy I'm out on the river or perfect stream on a nice day. Still a great reward. And you always can work on any of your own flaws you might have ya know.
Have to agree, love to relax and tie flies. Even better when they work! Just back from the Lower Owens and the Black Zebra never lets me down. Thank you tightlinevideo!!
I started tying flies a month ago. And tonight I tied my first zebra midge and it came out great. I couldn't find 70 denier at the store, so I used what I had on hand. Thanks for sharing your skills and knowledge!
Gorgeous! I've never tied flies before, have been thinking about it for a few weeks, and would definitely like to learn to tie this beauty. Thank-you...
For sure gotta tie some of these little buggers up! I tie a pattern somthin like this that i made up called the trout bully but with a feather wing. Works great so i might try one of these little rigs.
What kind of nippers are you using in this tie? And, what are they called? I'm kinda new, and sometimes scissors cut more than I want. Thanks for any advise. Chad
I've tried all sorts of color combinations over the years but keep coming back to the basic black and silver. It's probably just a confidence thing but I'd swear it works the best.
Hi there! After helicoptering the wire the thread gets frayed on the end of the wire as I go to finish the tie. Any advice? It basically catches and separates the fibers on the thread and makes the ship finish ugly, impossible or both!
I can't seem to find Dai-Riki hooks locally. I'm new to fly tying and am wondering if you can recommend a similar hook in a different brand? Or explain the properties of the Dai-Riki #125 that I should look for? Maybe even a quick video on hook education? Thanks for all your videos, they're great!
The Desert Raider Good substitutes for the the Da-Riki #125 are the Tiemco TMC-2488 or the Daiichi 1130. I have long been a Dai-Riki fan because of variety in the line and the fact that they're such a good value. Some have suggested durability issues, but this has never been a problem for me and I order them by the thousands.
Guy at fly shop set me up with UNI Thread 72D 8/0W for the black/body. This material breaks off way too easy. Am I using the wrong material? Tried several times, being as gentle as possible but it seems the wind could break this thread. Help!

Perfectly said, Maddy. I feel exactly the same way.

Have you stuck with it? If so, I am sure your flies are looking factory!

Great video. I’m tying these right now in a size 16, but adding thin UV resin to the whole body for added durability.
I love these. They're super easy to tie and super effective too.
I really enjoy your videos. No loud metal music, your instructions are clear. Awesome!
Your videos are amazing! I'm brand new to tying and couldn't have gotten started with out them. Thanks.
Gorgeous! I've never tied flies before, have been thinking about it for a few weeks, and would definitely like to learn to tie this beauty. Thank-you...
Your videos are always excellent, regardless of what fly you are tying.
These were knocking at the gorge last weekend bought a few from Shannon’s and couldn’t of been happier with the recommendation
this is awesome! one tip I would recommend is to add a tail of flash to give it some shine.
Great video thanks for sharing! I tied up a few and pulled in some fish from lees ferry over the weekend using them!
I use a Dyna-King Ultimate Indexer which I love. Matt Grobert who also ties in the videos uses a Regal.
The biggest challenge will be these old 66 year old eyes and shaky hands on this one. Thanks for sharing a great pattern.
God bless.
What can I say, but another great video, great instruction, background music not too overpowering !
What kind of clippers were you using at 3:49? Thank you!
I used a green color thread and the fish loved it
We have a hatch happening here, and the white fish are gorging on them. Thanks for the video. Will be trying this.
The tips for getting a smooth tapered body are very useful! What size bead would you suggest for a size 18 scud hook?
love it... I have used TMC 2457 hooks.

Great video.Would using copper wire and a brass bead be acceptable?

what vice do you use in all your video's?

Would you fish this all year round, or only in the spring/summer months
What size of Anglers Image box is that?
This is my go-to fly for bluegill
Try bully's bluegill spiders

Help!
Can you use copper wire instead
If I was going to tie in a single strand of flashabou for a tail, when would I do that?
In my opinion I’d place it right after you get the line started, then place on the wire. But I’m a noob fly tier
Do you use 1/16 silver bead on all sizes, 16 through 22?
I generally use smaller beads with smaller hooks. Below 1/16” I often switch over to glass beads like Killer Caddis beads from Wapsi
Can I tie this in a larger size with gold ribbing?
I personally like to apply super glue or equivalent to the entire fly to make it more durable and shiny
What size wire is used for this fly?
Small
Wow I thought my hooks were small but yur are Ow my god
whats the song?
Thank you for sharing:-)
microscoping wrestling match, gold.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Honestly never caught a fish on a midge pattern unless a rainbow warrior is a midge pattern
They're pretty much the only thing that produces other than egg patterns in winter
