Done with my first step towards being potential stem cell donar..✌️✌️✌️ I just wanted to know when and how will I get to know about my HLA TYPING after posting swab kit?
Hi thanks for registering with us. The entire registration process can take upto 3 months to complete, after which you can send an email to donor@dkms-bmst.org to know your HLA type.
Hi, due to an overwhelming number of registrations deliveries are a bit delayed. Please send an email to donor@dkms-bmst.org to know the status of your swab kit.
It's been approximately 2months since i posted my swab kit samples... But there is no email came after that.... Do i need to email them or should i wait for some more days...
Dear Gayatri, when you send back your samples, it is sent to our lab for tissue typing. Once your samples are analyzed, your unique profile is added to the global donor database. Post which, you will receive a welcome email from us. This entire process takes up anywhere between 8-12 weeks. 👍🏻
If you register as a potential blood stem cell donor with DKMS-BMST, your HLA will be typed and you will be registered as a potential lifesaver on the worldwide database. It does not cost anything to register and become a potential lifesaver.
Hi Ninad, first you will need to register with us at dkms-bmst.org/register We will send you a swab kit with which you need to take your cheek swab and send it back to us, your cheek swab samples will be typed for HLA characteristics. If your samples match with a patient in need, we will call you to donate your stem cells. Please visit our FAQ section to know more - dkms-bmst.org/faq
Hi Akshat, the process of stem cell donation is similar to blood donation. In this process blood is drawn from one arm and passed through an apparatus that separates out the stem cells and returns the remainder of the blood to your body through the other arm. Its a safe & easy process called apheresis. To know more check the frequently asked questions on your website - www.dkms-bmst.org/faq
Ethnicity goes beyond just being a mark of our identity. Our ethnicity is indeed a lifesaving factor for people suffering from blood cancer or other blood-related disorders. Indian patients mainly require an Indian tissue match for a transplant to take place.
