We live in Maine., USA. Earlier this year my daughter donated bone marrow cells for a matched person in Sweden! It is so amazing and thankfully life saving the medical world is globally connected. I am so proud for her to be such a giving person. She was so eager to get to D.C. to donate. Everything was paid for. The flight, the hotel room, the transportation. We are wishing the very best for the recipient. We hope their life will be a very long one with family, friends and hopefully future generations. Life is so precious. What we take for granted, OTHERS ARE PRAYING FOR!
My mum had a bone marrow transplant because she had leukemia, which gave me 25 years of life with her after the transplant. ❤ I also donated my stem cells almost 18 years ago. It all went well for the person who got them. Wishing all the donors and receivers pf stemm cells all the best ❤❤❤❤👏👏👏
I would love to meet the person who was the donor recipient of my brothers corneas. I’m so happy that you were able to get a stem donor and a new lease on life. Congratulations to you and your family! God bless you!
Bente, I was so happy to come across this video and see your amazing experience, made possible by Max. In 1982 when I was 30 years old and pregnant with my second child, my mother felt unwell for the entire month of May and it continued into June - just lack of appetite, overly tired. At the end of June when she was not feeling any better my father took her to the hospital and she was admitted for tests on July 1. On July 2 her blood results came back and we were told that she had advanced acute myelogenous leukemia. She was transferred to a larger hospital 133 miles away where there was a very established cancer hospital. Unfortunately, it was too late for her for any treatment and she did on July 19.
I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing your story. I truly believe that your mother is watching over you and your family always 💕
I’m a platelet donor - 31 gallons so far! That’s another way of saving lives. Please consider being some kind of donor - bone marrow, stem cells, blood, even organs. All are ways to help save lives.
I was a stem cell donor for my brother 15 years ago! He got to see his 3 kids get married and enjoy his grandchildren! We played golf yesterday!❤ There’s always hope! He had multiple myeloma!
Does anyone knows what the perfect match means genetically wise? I know that matching she will receive his etc. but does it mean they are family and or closely related?
It does not mean that they are related at all. To be an organ or donor match, it is essentially all just luck. There are a list of donors available and based on blood type, crossmatch and HLA testing, they will know how likely it will be for the donation to be successful. That’s why it is so important for more people to register for donation. The more people there are on the list, the more likely it is that someone will happen to find their match for donation. It was pure luck that he happened to be registered as a donor and that they were a match. There is no genetic link between them at all. However, family members are usually the first to be tested as they are more likely to be a match compared to a stranger.
I have bone marrow biopsies (I would think harvesting marrow would feel similar)for diagnosis and monitoring of my CML leukemia. It is not that bad if you can donate to save a life!❤
For a live donation, the age differs depending on what country you are from. The age limit is usually somewhere around 18-50. For donation after death, there is no age limit. The organ donation team assesses the condition of the potential donors organs. If they are fit for donation, they go from there to find a match.

Even if you never get a match you can feel eternal pride for donating. No one donates for the reward.

What is the age limit to donate ... Thank You !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I might be wrong but in NC there is a place on your driver licence they mark of you are a donor so I would say the age limit is your death.

In Germany between 18 and 55 years...
