A big difference is we've known about the GS cancellation years in advance. Also that ES is a ChDM model. It will be re-designed next year. The Century won't be branded a Lexus globally. It will be branded a Century with Century badges and will sit above Lexus.

For those saying, Oh man…. It’s a carry over. Keep in mind. In 1989, the style went from 89-2000 LS400 From 2000-2004 LS430 From 2007-2017 LS460 So it could take up 10 years for a real refresh for the 500 LS500 from 2018-Present So if nothing changes in another 3-4 years. Then maybe it’s the end game. But look at the stats it usually 10 years before a change of the LS.

Hey Kirk, why does ES300h concern you? Perhaps China has similar restrictions/disincentives to Europe? 300h models are huge over here, and we dont get the 350. I'd imagine the US market hybrid option will be 350h. And yes, that rear badge definitely says 300h...
Lexus isn’t neglecting their sedans. I got some insider info from Aisin and apparently they had a brand new Lexus LS designed but they scrapped the concept and their starting from the ground up. I heard that they want to make the LS a showcase for the latest technology from Toyota/Lexus with AI, automated driving, and other technologies. But rest assured an all new LS is definitely on the way. It would be out or at least revealed by 2026.👍

@mrgurulittle7000 Good info, but if it was coming out or being introduced by 2026 they have testing prototypes out doing real world testing by now. Again not saying your not credible, but one of these automotive or car enthusiasts sites would've caught glimpses of the test mule by now.

I had an Ls600h (2008)for 12 years. The best car I have ever had, out of 30 plus. Amazing quality, power, comfort, reliability. Some claim it is one of the best cars ever made. Now have Ls500h 2019. Yes, more modern etc. but I am still mourning my V8, the comfort , quality and luxury of my previous model, many details . The new one is just not the same. They have only sold around 130 annually in all of Europe in the last years, and yes, they cost 130,000 euros new unlike the US price , but I agree this model is on its way out.
My daily driver until recently has been a 2008 LS460 with NAV8, which I have been driving since new. It’s been pretty good, but not perfect. Hoping Lexus gets back their sedan mojo. They are behind on infotainment and software. My dream car would be a sleek, stately Lexus sedan with advanced tech, stereo, comfort quietness and powerful EV drivetrain. Today, my favorite flagship sedan - even compared to Germans - is the Genesis G90
I'm an fairness everybody is neglecting their sedans. You can even get a century suv now and I'm almost certain it's going to outsell the sedan which means.. next time we might not even have a sedan century. That's how it goes i guess
how is the new ls slower than the 2007 v8 ls ? also why why didnt they change the battery location for the hybrid model yet? the trunk has the same size as a smart car trunk because of the battery
I expect most of these revisions from Lexus and other Japanese makers to be delayed or minimalized, as automakers in general try to figure out the impacts to their business from the election and this week's response from the bond market. Chances are likely that Japan will continue its push for domestic market redesigns, but we'll get refresh until they cancel it.
Seems they want to do everything except update sedan interiors. Even with the rumored IS..they don't need to mess with the exterior just modernize the interior and keep the exterior as is. Those new ES headlights are hideous.
What is Lexus flagship? It seems like it is the RX. With how competitive that space is, the LS needs all the bells and whistles to sell. They are competing with the S Class, 7 Series, and A8. The LS is the best for reliability, but the owners of these vehicles only hold on to them for three years.
@@RSwrightMDthe V6 is fine in the LS, plenty of power. The V8 in my LX is great, but I imagine if I were to get the new LX, I probably wouldn’t miss the V8 until things go wrong.

These LS cars have not sold well for many years. I dont know how Toyota could justify a completely new model on this. Mercedes sells 3X-4X more S class sedans and at a much higher price. This class is dominated by the Mercedes S and BMW 7 series...and those are the most expensive...so its really not about price it seems
We need an update and a refresh for the ES Lexus and the spy shots of the ES looks luxurious with artistically stylish design front end headlights very nice
Just like killing the Hybrid Avalon !!! I would like to buy another mid size luxury sedan and the es looks boring Besides between last year models and this years on the rx models is 4 grand higher ! It's getting ridiculous They need to redesign the es 350h to be like the Avalon with a modern flare, sharper. Appeal to the 40-50 year old not 60-70 year old.
The LS needs Toyota Century design influence. The big boxy Century turns heads in person and demands respect. The current LS just blends in with all the ESs on the lot anf thats a bad thing. Boxy luxury sedans appeal to the older rich people.
I’ve been die hard Lexus fan for 30 years and made the hard decision to switch to Mercedes. My last Lexus was a GS F Sport (RIP) and was not downgrading to the ES (FWD, no AWD option with the V6). The entire brand offers nothing better or exciting coming up in the future. It’s like Toyota corporate wants to spend as less as possible to keep the brand going at this point especially the same Toyota 4 banger hybrids only unless it’s the LX. Starting to look like how GM treats Cadillac…
New ES miles better than the old GS . Yes its not RWD or sporty . But its a excellent luxury sedan focused on comfort luxury tech and more. New hybrid I4 is very refined and in Lexus form its truly going to be fantastic. Importantly people who buy the es doesn't care about power and performance so the v6 is not needed. Importantly if they really want to put more power. Then hybrid turbo I4 from the rx500h is available. Lexus has a upcoming LFR a 911 rival and a LC500/RC replacing coupe as well. In a time when many brands are not making coupes . Not exciting yay right.
@@Mylifeislegendary982vd3-vl ES and GS spoke to different buyers. The GS was never updated after it debuted in 2013, ES had a new platform in 2018 so its not good comparison. In addition, the 4 banger and I-6 powertrains from Mercedes (and BMW) are way more advanced, powerful with above average fuel economy and smoother than what Lexus offers (co-developing powertrains with Toyota across the board was never a good idea, 4 bangers are not smooth when pressed). As for a 911 rival, I'll believe it when I see it. Lexus has promised high performance models (RC-F not in the same league) and the only one that made it to production was the LF-A (RIP) in 2012.

I think instead of killing the LS and possibly the LX they should just Seriously redesign these vehicles to stay competitive, Lexus is moving farther and farther away from being a luxury brand
The current Lexus LS has been a major flop for Lexus, for a variety of reasons, but the main reason is they aimed too low, were too conservative with their goals for the LS. It's look is fetching enough, but in every other tangible, it falls short of what the luxury flagship market demands. It's tech and user IP are old and outdated. The interior is smaller than ever before, and the engine is a victim of cost-cutting. At least they are asking a fair price for it, but demand for these kinds of sedans is fading fast, so you either give the market what they want, which is the ultimate modern luxury sedan, or you're off the shopping list
1. New engine is not part of cost cutting whatsoever. Instead Its had excellent power performance and more . Its just they are moving From v8s while only using if its really required. 2. New LS has continuous UPDATES in terms of Tech . So its not outdated and very much in line with the LC500. 3. interior space is more than fine. Overall only reason its not selling very well because. The market of flagship Asian flagship luxury sedans are dead while remaining buyers are Germans . Even of they put a freaking v10 or even a v16. It would make no difference
@@Mylifeislegendary982vd3-vl When you go from a V8 to a six cylinder, to a luxury shopper, who is used to a V8, it comes across as cost-cutting. perception is reality, in this case.
@@InvestBetter. Expect the existing V8 is a outdated engine from the 2000s or I don't know the 90s. so no the new engine is very much a upgrade over the V8 in every level. Overall Ls low sales has nothing to do with the new engine. Instead the overall segment of flagship full size luxury cars is dying and even if Lexus puts a freaking v10 or v8 it won't change its numbers. Best example is the lc500. were once again its in dying segment with very few rivals . It even has the V8 yet look at its sales numbers. overall in this day and age luxury buyers fully understand there is a decent chance something can downsize or electric.
@@Mylifeislegendary982vd3-vl Except Mercedes and BMW turbo-charged their V8s. They didn't leave V8s for sixes. Lexus bet on luxury buyers wanting a V6 and a smaller interior, with less tech than the competition. All reek of cost-cutting, and the cut not just cost, but their market share.
@@InvestBetter. Just because Mercedes or bmw offers a v8 don't mean Lexus should do the same. Because its not required. New LS has excellent Tech and perfectly fine interior space. Bmw nowadays only has one v8 and top of the line version is m760exdrive. which is a I6 turbo PHEV. Look at the sales of LC500 or even the Mercedes AMG SL. They all offer v8s and yet they are selling in low numbers. because they are in a dying segment with very little buyers.
Toyota needs to get serious again with sedans. There was a time people left Mercedes, BMW and Audi for the LS. I’ll agree many of those customers have migrated tie SUVs…that said LS sales are only in the crapper because Toyota has basically built a Buick competitor for the price of a Audi A8.
New LS is a excellent s class or 7 series rival. Buick yay right. Days of unbiased full size luxury car buyers are gone as the whole segment had shrunked to a point were its only Mercedes BMW or Audi Left. So its not fault of the car instead the overall market.
its sad to see the plummeting monthly sales of the LS while its smaller sister the ES averages between 2,000 and 4,200 units per month granted in the nearly 4 decades Lexus has existed the ES has sold roughly 2 million units in the US which is decent for a 4 door Luxury sedan similar to a Lincoln Continental Mark VII though the Lincoln is 7-9 in longer than the Lexus and the five gens between Mark IV and Mark VIII sold 950,000 units granted when Toyota decided to build Lexus they took apart at Cadillac Seville and and Lincoln Continental Mark VI to see what Americans expected from their Luxury cars Hence why the LS had a V8 engine believe the first V6 in the Lexus ES was a 2.5 L same as would be the first used in the Camry starting in 1988 and eventually they'd both have a 3.5 L V6 between 2010-2024
Their issue is that their GA-L platform is not scalable like CLAR from BMW. Otherwise, the GS wouldn’t have died, and the IS could have gotten better platforms instead of the ancient one they have now. That, and powertrains! They need new gas engines FAST!
Yep. Terrible engineering decision for the near-worthless L platform. At least it gave us the LC perfection...at the cost of most of their sedans, potentially RWD SUVs could've been on a RWD platform shared with LS, LC...but it never happened. Terrible corp decision making.
@@borninhk1 new Lexus powertrains already excellent engines and no need for new ones whatsoever. GS died because there was no market for a Asian RWD based 5 series rival whatsoever. BEST example of this. Is the g80. Genesis managed to sell 312 vehicles it was even worse in July. It was just 274 cars. While the comfort and luxury focused Es is selling better than ever. I feel like they are pushing the whole 35 years as a way to say this is it. The LS 460 took nearly 10 years to be redesigned 2007 - 2017 and when they finally put out the LS 500 it was missing the V8 and many loyal buyers already left the brand to go with the big 3. The LS 430 still has presence to this day! The same problem goes for Bentley when they went from the Mulsanne to the Flying Spur. It lost its presence.

Yes they are, well all the RWD based ones. The FWD based ES gets regular updates. The LS is now just an also ran in it's class. Never thought I'd see that.
I hope they don't kill it. The LS500 fell behind with technology and design and power train. They need to modernize this legendary sedan and give it more power. I hope they don't destroy it and turn it into a hybrid or EV with no ICE option.
It’s obvious, emissions and pollution… even CO2 gas is not acceptable and it is considered a greenhouse gas which traps heat on earth. The belief is that EV emit nothing meaning clean car
The spectacular 1989 debut of the Lexus LS 400 showcased world-class engineering and design execution. The stunning loss of V8 power in the LS 500 has been a clear signal that Lexus no longer serious about sedan supremacy. Release a few trim changes and raise prices. It's shocking to see how little Lexus cares - a crossover selling "Toyota-Twin" is good enough.
Maybe just kept it for this year as it’s last MY to be available for the 35th year. Probably has some unheralded mechanical tweaks for 2025 as Lexus seems to do every year.
Agreed. Lexus did themselves a disservice by neglecting their sedans . The current generation LS was already behind everyone else when it came out. It impressed no-one. Especially compared to something like the BMW 7 series or Genesis G90 even. They should have only kept the GS and IS, and focused primarily on the fun to drive, sexy, sporty/performance/ F sport side of Lexus. I think for most buyers, the ES really doesn’t need to exist at this point considering the RX could be an obvious substitution for sales consultants. And the LS has become completely irrelevant in the US.

Same here since the 70's and driving GM all my life since buying 2 Lexus's 10 years back. best cars I've ever owned.
A big difference is we've known about the GS cancellation years in advance. Also that ES is a ChDM model. It will be re-designed next year. The Century won't be branded a Lexus globally. It will be branded a Century with Century badges and will sit above Lexus.
I see the LS on the road sometimes, it looks so boss! Great road presence.
The legendary LS to go out this way is very disappointing for as a kid I still remember my father's LS and how much my father loved it; he would be so disappointed to see what happened to his beloved LS!!
For those saying, Oh man…. It’s a carry over. Keep in mind.
In 1989, the style went from 89-2000 LS400
From 2000-2004 LS430
From 2007-2017 LS460
So it could take up 10 years for a real refresh for the 500
LS500 from 2018-Present
So if nothing changes in another 3-4 years. Then maybe it’s the end game. But look at the stats it usually 10 years before a change of the LS.
Over here in Germany the es is only sold as 300h. It is a 4 cylinder hybrid.

The LS will disappear like a fart in the wind. Some people might notice, but most will act like it didn't happen.
Shame the sedans are dying. Driving GS is much more appealing than my RX. I don't like the top heaviness of SUV's vs sedans when cornering.
Im just hoping for a IS hybrid before they end the IS line.
IS line isn’t gonna end. That’s Lexus’s bread and butter sedan. They’ll definitely make a new one.
I hope Nissan can take some notes and focus on sedans more than others are.
Their sedans are selling worse than Toyota's. It'll be the final nail in their coffin if they go that path. Keep your dayjob 😂
They don't have the development dollars for newer crossovers, hybrids, or EV's so ditto on sedans....Nissan now is what you see is what you get...
I think Lexus ES needs a F performance edition
Kirk, the ES300 Grillwork in the MIDDLE looks like 1 Solid piece, Sort of like an EV😮?? Is this True?

That B&W picture of the ES looks exactly like the current ES model - just saying...
Yes killing sedans, but market demands control that
Real neglect is Acura couldn’t make a LS competitor in all its history. They would stretch a civic lol
I thought the Lexus is Japanese product. I heard you said a few times China.
Lexus might want to rethink moving production back to Japan with Tariffman in the house now.
What is Lexus flagship? It seems like it is the RX. With how competitive that space is, the LS needs all the bells and whistles to sell. They are competing with the S Class, 7 Series, and A8. The LS is the best for reliability, but the owners of these vehicles only hold on to them for three years.
Anything designated L is flagship
LS flagship sedan, LX flagship suv, LC flagship coupe, LM flagship ‘mover’ which is just van
If I were Chief engineer at Lexus I would give the LS the magnificent 4.8L V10 base and twin turbo as option. Base LS would have the 5.0L V8.

I have been very happy with the V6 in my LX. I think the V6 will be ok for the LS but the V8 has been a fun engine for older models.

@@1bigboy500 GS was not updated anymore because there was no business case or actual demand. While the es does. Even now genesis g80 only sold 312 cars in segment with e class or 5 series. Opps, I misread the video title. I thought this was about the LC500.
The LS was legendary years ago but now it has fallen behind the S class 7 series and A8 im a young teen and i rather drive sedans then a crossover or suv
Mercedes and Audi will never have the long term reliability that Lexus has though. They are nice cars otherwise.
It bothers me that the LS and ES look so similar on the outside. The LS doesn’t stand out enough to remain an S class Benz competitor.
Do you say that about s class and e class?
I rather have a Toyota century sedan
its sad to see the plummeting monthly sales of the LS while its smaller sister the ES averages between 2,000 and 4,200 units per month granted in the nearly 4 decades Lexus has existed the ES has sold roughly 2 million units in the US which is decent for a 4 door Luxury sedan similar to a Lincoln Continental Mark VII though the Lincoln is 7-9 in longer than the Lexus and the five gens between Mark IV and Mark VIII sold 950,000 units granted when Toyota decided to build Lexus they took apart at Cadillac Seville and and Lincoln Continental Mark VI to see what Americans expected from their Luxury cars Hence why the LS had a V8 engine believe the first V6 in the Lexus ES was a 2.5 L same as would be the first used in the Camry starting in 1988 and eventually they'd both have a 3.5 L V6 between 2010-2024
Maybe Toyota give up next gen LS …
They need to go back to a v8 and design the body to look more like a flagship. The exterior does not compete with MB, BMW, etc.
The LS is one of the cars with fewer incentives on Lexus offers, I wonder why

The best thing Lexus can do is discontinue the LS.
I feel like they are pushing the whole 35 years as a way to say this is it. The LS 460 took nearly 10 years to be redesigned 2007 - 2017 and when they finally put out the LS 500 it was missing the V8 and many loyal buyers already left the brand to go with the big 3. Lexus takes way too long to redesign their major flagship products. What happened to that same passion they put in the
LS 400.
Yep. Since they're established, they're resting on their laurels. Genesis has the fire and innovation Lexus once had. Hope Lexus can get some attention, but they seem to always be a second thought in America vs. the mainstream Toyota lineup.

The LS 430 still has presence to this day!
The same problem goes for Bentley when they went from the Mulsanne to the Flying Spur. It lost its presence.
If they want to kill LS, they should bring a new way better ES with more engine options. Let start with 350h, 450h and 500h. Even if they copy all engines from RX. But... If they give us the same powertrain as camry, ES will die soon. Lexus must be better then Toyota. Otherwise bye bye sedans
Yes they are, well all the RWD based ones. The FWD based ES gets regular updates. The LS is now just an also ran in it's class. Never thought I'd see that.

The fact that its not a V8 is such a big downgrade and dealbreaker in its class.
I think they just bought another two years to know if they should go with electric cars or hybrid
I hope they don't kill it. The LS500 fell behind with technology and design and power train. They need to modernize this legendary sedan and give it more power. I hope they don't destroy it and turn it into a hybrid or EV with no ICE option.
Can somebody explain to me why the world is making vehicle electrification mandatory? What is wrong with conventional internal combustion engines?
Am I the only one who wants a large flagship sedan? lol.
Once they kill the LC, I'm moving to Mercedes.
Very sad to see Lexus likely become another SUV or coupe brand…
