Don't think I've ever left a review on any type of audio. Podcasts, music, anything. I actually only came across this by chance, while looking for new music for the gym. I'd heard of Mr. McGuinness from friends, and he does great work. But gracious, Rachel's voice is incredible. I've heard lots of pretty voices, from major music stars to church choirs. But none as absolutely intoxicating as hers. Maybe it's just me, but I've never heard anything like it. I've listened to this song on repeat for the majority of the last two days (when I don't have others with me), and I can't get enough of it. I don't want to knock Colm in any way, but Rachel's incredible voice makes this song for me. She's absolutely beautiful on top of that. Easy on the eyes for sure, but ridiculously easy on the ears.

I started imagining a scenario of being married to a Navy sailor, but the song sounds so sad, made me think of a god forbidding a scenario where he was taken by the sea, and I grew to hate it for stealing him away. Then, later remembered he loved the sea along with his country and died doing what he loved, and there was no better place for him. The ocean suddenly felt like an infinite expansion of him to me and his body would go on to live throughout the creatures of the sea. I’ve come to embrace the ocean with all my heart, and in grievance for my lost love, I would swim and swim through the salty waters as my heart ached and ached. Through my devotion of my love, and acceptance to the ocean, I am to become completely bound to it, swimming deep across the oceans, widowed, as a lone, wandering mermaid, carrying with me the legacy of my beloved all the way to the day I finally join him. All the while, my heart replays my desperate wish to just see him return back home.

I quit everything I was doing and pulled my browser's tab up to see to whom this angelic voice belongs to. I knew of this Colm guy because of his videos, I never heard of Rachel Hardy until this video. She does have a very beautiful voice, and the combination other two really stands out in this song. I especially loved the swelling and building in the background music in the last bit. The piano and violin were so subtle that when they're finally heard they really add a lot to the sound. I like the counter melodies by Colm as well! Definitely one of my fave versions of this song.
