    I did a two day ride over the weekend with the new, softer fork compression valving. The forks felt really good in all conditions. Definitely not too soft as I was running with the compression adjusters at 19out. Bottoming control is still very good and they feel stable even when pushed hard. Need to ride at some other locations too, but I'm pleased so far.

    Dog wanted to help with the re-valve and to make sure everything was going right. Thanks for The clip! I needed to see this for future reference especially fluid changes. They sure are plusher than my old AER's in chop. I only have about 20 hrs on mine but so far so good. Oh and so glad to find a video on this! I can't go by a manual worth a darn. I'm a visual guy my wife says.

    For those tight on budget - no need for syringe tool for 15-30usd. Just get a syringe from pharmacy and get a shrader valve insert for car rim from your nearest tyre shop. Glue the syringe inside and fill the remaining gaps with rubberlike glue...

    I see ur using different fork oil from before is the bell ray a different weight what’s the best weight and oil for my stock forks on my 2018 300?

    • @TokyoOffroad

      For stock forks I use WP SAE 4W oil. I order it through my KTM dealer in 5L containers. Yes, the Bell Ray oil is 5W and I only use it in my Del Saggio cartridge forks.

    Hi mate
    Great vid! you really helped me a lot, which spanner do you you use to loosen the fork caps is it the DRC 50 you use to hold the rod? as my Motion Pro 50mm closed spanner wont fit.

    • @TokyoOffroad

      For the Dal Soggio fork caps I use a DRC 50mm 8 sided wrench. It has a 3/8" hole in the handle so can be used with a torque wrench and can also be used to hold the rod too. Very handy. The part number is D59-24-002

    great video, i have spheres and find them way to soft i am only 5 clicks out on the compression and 2 clicks out on the rebound. I want to disassemble the forks and measure all the shims to see how they compare to the OEM base chart. My issue is I am 1000km out in the desert and need to order all the special tools needed to pull the shim stacks down to measure and compare. Is there any chance you could share with me a list of all the special tools needed for the pull down and reassemble? that way i can order the tools/parts and ensure i have everything to complete the job. Being so remote nothing is worse than getting a job 90% done only to need a tool/part and then i have to wait 4weeks for it to arrive by mail plane. I use my bike for desert racing in Australia and am training hard for Finke 2024 in June, and i need to sort this lack of damping asap. Thanks again.

    Can you do an update on the sphere for folks that are considering this upgrade? I really appreciate your videos and thoroughness. Specifically, would dropping in the dal soggio spheres keep the plush feel of the xplor at low speed but solve the other problems of bottoming or rigidity at mid to high speed. Thanks

      I love the Sphere cartridges. They are plush yet resist bottoming off large jumps. At high speed through bumpy terrain they feel very controlled. They are a huge improvement over the stock Xplor cartridges. Highly recommended.

      Excellent World-Pro? No. But, I have been off-road riding for 40 years, so I can tell the difference between a 2-stroke and 4-stroke ;-)
      If you ride in roots and rocks it's very easy to notice suspension setup differences. I ride off-road nearly every weekend, year round. I like to have my bike setup just how I want it, so I focus on the riding rather than thinking about the bike.
      BTW- The shims cost me about $6 and the oil was about $20. So it's cheap if you can do it yourself and have the tools.

      Tokyo Offroad I'm the dame with my suspension similar ride background 40years off/ road riding since my mini Mx days as a kid, I bought my own bike first bike, MX too, no pee wee straight to the real stuff, earning my own money doing milk and paper rds, still loving 2 strokes but Inhave had both and trials as well, still do the odd low Enduro key events as well!
      People make the mistake of thinking pros only understand or feel suspension differences or benefits, in fact the gumby rider can benefit the most, ride safer, most important, ride faster and even bigger point is improve with proper bike setup! Yet the gumby will still go a buy a 450 or 300 as the first bike ever! Then add a pipe or some other engine mod, and run stock suspension and shitty tyres!

  • @nuthintoprove

    Boyle's law doesn't care what kind of gas it is. There is no difference between gasses, just like all liquids don't compress. air is 78% nitrogen, 20% oxygen and the rest is everything else with varying amounts of water vapor, which oil has also. Nitrogen is cheap and dry. Save yourself the hassle of buying an nitrogen tank and the refill cost and get a small high pressure pump. Formula 1 was the first to start splitting hairs on setup and the dry nitrogen in tires started there. Shocks, it makes no difference what the gas is. I repeat, all gasses expand the exact same amount with temperature change, thinking that they don't is a myth propagated like carrots make you see better or your shock is kicking because the rebound is to fast. Don't believe me, read up on Boyle's law and you will see in the equation that there is no factor for varying gases.

For me I like mine stiffer normally for more sand track riding but I spoke with Gianni from Dal Soggio and he has mentioned that the spheres take up to 20hrs before the fully “bed in” . • @TokyoOffroad
      @TokyoOffroad  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, preload adjustment is relatively easy. Have a look at my install video here and I show the spring preload adjustment system. This can be done with the forks on the bike- with the bike on a work stand, loosen the top triple clamp pinch bolts, undo both fork caps, pull the front wheel up (to push the cartridges out of the tubes) and hold in place with a tie down strap. You should be able to see the preload adjuster. You'll need to push down on the sleeve and then adjust the preload. Note that I haven't tried doing this with the forks assembled, but think it can be done OK... th-cam.com/video/huiSdw2rfcE/w-d-xo.html

      Oil height is certainly something that can easily be changed and tweaked to suit personal preference. I'm still using the same settings shown in this video and love how the fork feels. For mixed offroad riding I think these settings are a good place to start if you're a similar weight to me (about 80kg with no clothes, about 90kg with gear).

    • @westsurfmark
      @westsurfmark 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm the same weight as this probably around 85 ish with gear on when I'm at my peak fitness lol . I have the perfect setting for both fast sand ( firm settings ) and for more tech enduro rocky stuff and Forrest single etc . I've gone for the 365ml of oil on the 10 pre load setting , when I checked my pressures for the first time I was on 30psi on one leg and 17psi in the other . not sure how that happened but I spoke to shock treatment here in oz who do a bot of work with these spheres , and he recommended around 18 psi . I lose a few PSI checking and filling so I put 20psi in to get to 18 when I remove the fill valve / needle . the rebound I leave at 13 for all types and seems great . the comp a have on 21 for tech enduro and around 10 or 12 for fast sand riding to keep it form being swallowed in whoops an float over the top . I have a bladder conversion in the rear which works very well with them . I'm extremely happy with the set up .
