FYI - I take my WP xplor forks apart all the time. There is no need to heat the outer tube to knock the seals and bushings out. Just use the inner tube to slide-hammer them out. Just take several small slides at it and it will come right out without heating. If the seals are old and really stuck in there, I’d use a heat gun or hair dryer rather than a torch if you want to reuse the seals. But that’s just me. I know a lot of other people use a flame and just replace the seals every time they come apart.
Good job! First detail video of installing Sphere kit! I ever installed EXA kit and RAY kit on my bikes and I like them. Plan to install Sphere kit in an used OC fork recently.
hey mate, wondering if you happen to know if these dal soggio changes the overall length of the xplor fork? I need mx length, I believe the xplor are 10 or 20mm shorter than the AER fork? wondering if dal spheses for xplor just has different bottom cone adapters. wanna get these or the WP kyb SSS swap. if you could let me know I'd appreciate it. 😊
Hi. Few additional points for info for other viewers:1) torque for rebound adjuster assembly to piston rod is 16Nm2) torque for rebound adjuster assembly into the fork axle holder is 20Nm3) my KTM dealer advised me to keep the o-ring between the tubes and axle holder... BTW did you already have a chance to change the oil inside the cartridge?
Hi Mark. I'm considering buying used Sphere cartridges and I wanted to ask if you have the manual which includes the maintenance windows and what should be serviced? (the guy don't have it)
Ray Rays - Thanks for the feedback. I installed a Dal Soggio XP-One kit on a friend's 2017 KTM 450 EXC-F. The key advantages over stock valving are that the kit keeps the forks higher in the stroke, resulting in better stability and control, particularly at faster pace. My friend has his bike set up for his weight (heavier than me) so I can't compare it to stock, or my bike as the springs are much heavier. He likes the XP-One kit though.
Excellent instructions. You are a very good teacher. I lived in Japan back in 2008. I had no idea that there were so many places open to off-road riding there. I lived near Nagoya :)
James Bramblett - Thanks for the positive feedback. We did a trip to Nagoya back in March and rode in two different places. This is Yoro which is to the west of Nagoya: th-cam.com/video/7nClSA5Zt80/w-d-xo.html
Tokyo Offroad Wow my kind of stuff there! Not nearly as good as your stuff but here is a link to one of my recent rides in Kentucky. th-cam.com/video/kAqKNb8u1uQ/w-d-xo.html
Great install vid , I have just installed the same kit to my Xplors . Out of interest , did you notice any difference in resistance between the two forks when you compress each one off the Bike ? Pushing down on my ones , one feels slightly softer than the other .
Mark H - Thanks for the positive feedback regarding the video. There shouldn’t be a significant difference between the left and right fork legs as the Dal Soggio Sphere calving is the same in both cartridges.
Tokyo Offroad - hi , yes I thought it was weird . Maybe I will give it a ride today then take them off to compare again . One Definately rebounded faster than the other with the clicker setting the same and fork preload the same whilst off the bike .
WOW Now that's an awsome how 2 VID. People!!! Take notes from this guy if you want make a VID. Thanks for your time sir... That's deserves a thumbs up and a subscribe. Boom chug-a-lug
Recently discovered your channel. Great vids. Keep it up. I've just ordered the Ohlins TTS Fork inserts and shock. I need the 48mm inner fork leg removal tool. Cant seem to find one online. Can I order one from you ? Thanks
Thank you for the positive feedback regarding the videos. KTM do have a special tool available to do this, but I don't know the part number. If you'd prefer to buy a tool from Tokyo Offroad I can make one for you. Please contact me using this form if you're interested: www.tokyooffroad.com/contact/
The inner cartridge takes 190ml of oil, but then you set the oil level to 122mm after bleeding air out of the cartridge. I cover this procedure in this video: th-cam.com/video/ElWFkZITQpg/w-d-xo.html The lower takes 360ml
Thank you very much, I like your videos. Could you please share some links with the tools I need if I would like to work on my forks (XPLOR as well)? Thanks again.
I haven't had the need to adjust the preload, but yes, you should be able to undo the fork cap, drop the tube and make the adjustment. But I'm not sure how far you'd be able to adjust with the forks assembled before the fork tubes got in the way...
I gather a replacement cartridge system is the gold standard for the Xplor fork. What are your thoughts on the Xp One kit, is this worth it as a cheaper option just to make the forks useable on rocks and roots? I found stock it the forks we ok for slow speed but still deflected a bit. I re-sprung and while its better on high speed whoops and drops it is probably worse for defection on rocks and washing out on roots. Not confidence inspiring.
Yes, the Dal Soggio Sphere cartridges are widely regarded as one of the best cartridge systems. I did soften up the compression valving on mine (separate video) and really like them. I've installed the Dal Soggio XP One kit on 3 of my riding friends bikes. My friends like them. Compared to stock you'll find the XP One kit results in the fork riding higher in the stroke, will not bottom out as easily and feels more controlled.
@@TokyoOffroad Thank you for the reply. Does the XP One give some plushness to the fork for rolling over rocks and roots? Deflection even with stock spring rate (soft for my 90kg) was a bit of an issue that seems to be exacerbated with higher spring rates, which perform better at speed in whoops and similar condition but glance off roots and cause the front to wash out.
I think it would help. Because the stock calving is quite soft it bottoms out quite easily and then deflection and instability becomes an issue, particularly if you are above the stock target weight (about 75kg).
@@TokyoOffroad I did re-spring the bike to .45 for the forks which give it pretty decent performance at speed for things like fast fire access roads (not the intended use of this bike), drops from ledges and whoops but for slower speeds (1st/ 2nd gear technical) it is worse and deflects more now than with the stock springs and compression adjustments does next to nothing to make the forks more compliant and roll over the terrain. I'm going to put the stock springs back in today. Also looking at Slaven's Lucky cartridge set up from MX Tech.
Jesse Wolf - I used the stock 2017 PDS shock for a while (with one rate heavier spring), but ended up getting an Ohlins TYX Flow Shock which feels really balanced with the Dal Soggio Spheres. Love the suspension now...
@@TokyoOffroad that setup sounds great. if i can ask for an advice: i have a 17 exc 250 with stock suspension, and im searching for suspension mods, other manufacturers suspension because i want to use the bike at motocross every now and then, altough my main thing is hard enduro. what would u recommend? the sphere kit is kinda pricy, i can get a second hand fork at that price (wp cone valve, ohlins ttx). and about the shock, i dont think it exists a kit for it, so the only option would be also changing it to wp trax or ohlins ttx
Darco#712 - I’m still very happy with the Sphere cartridges. I haven’t tried Cone forks, or Ohlins forks so can’t comment on those. I’m using an Ohlins TTX Flow rear shock which works well with the forks and results in a very balanced feel. I did revalve the Sphere compression stack (separate video) to make them a little softer which works well for the riding I do.
Received my cartridges this week:). Just waiting for the inner tubes to be delivered from DLC COMP coating. BTW once your rebound adjuster is fully screwed in and seated on the rod, shouldnt you lock it with the counternut (the one, which you use for holding the fork compressed)?
and rebound adjuster into the fork bottoms is 40Nm or 14Nm? I guess you said 40Nm, just want to make sure:). Do you recommend to use 234 loctite or better not?
A different version of the Sphere cartridge is available for the 4CS forks (MX and Enduro versions available). As far as I know the XPLOR version of the Spheres will not fit in the 4CS fork. If you already have a set of the XPLOR Spheres and want to fit them in 4CS forks I'd recommend you contact Dal Soggio and ask them if it's possible to convert them.
Could you please elaborate a bit more what did you aim for when purchasing the cartridge? And will you be please posting a customer review of them:)? Awesome vid anyway...
My aim was to have the forks plush at lower speeds through rocks and roots, but stable at high speeds and resist bottoming on large jumps. That's exactly what the Sphere cartridges deliver. I rode with them for the first time on Saturday and left some comments on the ride video: th-cam.com/video/I_-e1WXon5U/w-d-xo.html
Tokyo Offroad thank you. Btw when i bought ohlins ttx cartridges for beta rr300 i had a problem, that after 10 mins of riding my outer oil was fully contaminated my metallic dust - most likely shitty inner chrome tubes were eaten by the springs from the inside. Do you get this with wp xplor tubes?
MrKidkiller159 - Yes, the axle holder is threadlocked to the lower tube. Works extremely well as you can see. Most fork manufacturers have closed cartridge fork models, including Showa, Kayaba, WP and now Dal Soggio. While the basic operation principle is the same, the details, materials and coatings are all different.
bob - They’ve been great and still love them. I overhaul once a year, which is just changing the oil, oil seals, bushings and dust seals. I haven’t needed to replace any parts in the cartridges yet. I the revalve video I made I show how to change the oil in the cartridge and pressurize.
